Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

I feel bad for anyone that thinks Road to Acceptance is filler. It's just about impossible to justify. The song has an anti-racism, anti-prejudice theme, along with a sick bass line. And if the song was just filler, Green Day wouldn't have played it constantly up through their Insomniac tour. That's a song that they wanted people to hear. Same reason why they'd play Resolution by Fifteen during the bridge of Paper Lanterns. Not only to give a shoutout to their fellow east bay punk band, but to spread the anti-hate theme.

I love that song.

The trouble with Road To Acceptance is that it's inferior to the sum of its parts. It has a lot of individual aspects that are brilliant but I just don't like it as a song.

It's so great! I already loved it just from reading one line of it ("I always waste my time just wondering what the next man thinks of me/I'll never do exactly what I want and I'll sculpt my life for your acceptance") in a Green Day biography, before I had the internet and realized it would ever actually be possible to find/hear the album. Lived up to expectations when I did as well, it's probably my favourite of the 39/Smooth songs. Love all the aspects of it that have been mentioned and the song as a whole.

possible unpopular opinion: 1,039 smoothed out slappy hours is the catchiest green day album melody wise. newer albums may seem catchier to most people, because they are more beat driven and have some recognizeable riffs... but the melodies? probably at their best on 1,039 smoothed out slappy hours (going to pasalaqua, paper lanterns, why do you want him, dry ice, only of you, i want to be alone...).

the cast of the musical is the best version...

Nope. Sorry, not sorry.

Not the musical soundtrack, the one from Broadway Idiot. Those backing vocals! And it's shorter, too, which is also a plus. And no falsetto.

Hmm. Still no, but less of one.

None of the musical versions were better than the originals. I'm not sure how anyone could say otherwise.

I only like Billie's vocals in this. When he comes in it contrasts the rest of the song really well.

That's my favorite part! And since I don't like 21 Guns all that much, I think this is a definite improvement. Plus, I think some Green Day songs sound really cool with female vocals and harmonies, this one especially.

Also, Tomnomnom says no to quoting videos.

I really didn't like any of the AI musical vocalists, male or female. Much prefer Billie. The only female singers I really like usually have distinct styles.

I thought the female vocalists were much stronger than the male vocalists from the original cast. The males came off as a ~bit~ whiny.

They were all pretty whiny imo, although the men probably were a bit more. All the women just sort of sang in a bland style. Kind of annoying.

Yeah, in the same way that Ted Bundy was a ~bit~ violent.

Yeah, I do actually quite like the AI cast version. Probably coz it's pretty much the same as the original, has Green Day in it any way, and the bass at the start is awesome.

I don't care for it. But I quite like the video for the cute cheesy goodness.

I can't believe I went through that again after the Doctor Who thread.

You fell for it AGAIN? Brilliant.

Okay, can we talk about the girl who sang "Too Much Too Soon" in the musical? Because damn.

buttttttttt Tony Vincent

Speaking to the male vocalist part, I think they were asked to do a very difficult thing in singing Green Day songs. If they don't try and emulate Billie"s style in some way, the songs would probably lose something. It seems like a damned if you damned if you don't scenario when it comes to adding that whine to their vocals

Hm... musical voices often sound somewhat artificial to me and tend to exaggerate or weaken songs, and create too much drama. I find it especially annoying when they transform original, rather strong songs into wish-wash music...

I'd rather we didn't tbh.

well then.

The only good thing about TMTS from the musical is that I finally understood what it was about and could finally relate to it.
