x-kid is the best song in the entire trilogy

X-kid is kinda catchy but otherwise boring. Still among the more enjoyable songs on the trilogy, I like it and it's one of the handful I still listen to, but it's not a genius or brilliant song imo.

Lazy Bones and Brutal Love on the other hand are really nice, so no switchies! And Stay the Night is a great song too, just not the studio version.

I like Kerplunk better than Dookie!

Seriously though, how can anyone not like Stay the Night? Trilogy aside, it's a wonderful song. And when put alongside a lot of shit songs on the trilogy, it then appears even that much better. You can actually tell that there's some soul and heart in it.

To me, the song doesn't seem like some desperate hook up song ("stay the night with me, pretty girl") or anything like what most songs about this topic imply. The "we're only young tonight, there's no time left, come home with me tonight" theme is so popular in music today, and I feel like Stay the Night does it so much more poetically than any of the others, and with deeper meaning. It makes me think of two people who must separate for some reason, and truthfully only have one night left together and they'll never know what could have been because of some sort of outlying circumstances. Not a one night stand type thing. You can really feel that emotion, an almost desperate sadness, in the live version from Demolicious.

And that bridge breakdown. Jesus. Christ. Especially the full version on Demolicious, or the version at the end of Cuatro... it's so wonderful! It's amazing to hear what came of the song that first surfaced on YouTube in 2010 from the soundcheck. I fell in love with it the minute I first heard it, and it's one of the few songs that wasn't ruined as a finished product on the trilogy.

#preach'd

I really love that bridge section and they could have done so much more with it, it's a little underwhelming on the studio version because of how short it is

Eh, you're all wrong, Brutal Love sucks. :P

Demolicious guitars, and the booming drums... ooh, so, so good. :D

I think X-Kid is a bit overrated. When I first heard that Cuatro snippet, I was so excited. That and Missing You were both so catchy. But now I hardly ever listen to X-Kid, but I do often listen to Missing You (mostly Demolicious version).

Also, Brutal Love was one of those songs that sent shivers through my body, mostly due to that ending chorus. I love when songs give me that feelings because I feel like it's so rare to be blown away by a song. Now I still love Brutal Love, but that shivers/shock feeling has numbed from overlistening. However, Brutal Love is definitely one of the coolest things to come of the Trilogy.

For once we agree. I think X-Kid is a decent enough song, but it's nowhere near their best, and Billie's double-tracked (and over-filtered) vocals ruin the verses for me.

I do like x-kid, but I feel it is missing something that would take it on to the next level. Probably give it heavier guitars to star off with, but something else needs changing - maybe the arrangement? Still one of my favourites, though - the lyrics are pretty good.

That drop into the coda of Brutal Love is epic. Obviously most of the song is unoriginal, but the bit they did write is fantastic. I still find that falling melody every bit as spine chilling as I did when I first heard it.

Only the verse vocal melody, to be fair. The progression, arrangement lyrics and everything else is original. But yeah, Brutal Love is probably the best songs on the Trilogy, and in the top 5 best ever Green Day songs /popularopinionintheunpopularopinionsthread

I think it'd be better during X-Kid at the end if Billie sung lower, rather than higher. Idk is the song not about suicide? It doesn't make sense to end it on a 'high' tbh. I still like it but yeah I think if it had ai style guitar sound it would've sounded a lot better.

Another random thing it'd be really cool if they did what they sang on certain songs. Like Holiday for example 'dogs howling out of key' could have actually been sung out of key and 'hear the drum pounding out of time' it would've been fun to hear Tre play slightly out of time there. A bit too literal but :P

The Trilogy imo wouldn't sound good with AI style guitars. Insomniac or Nimrod, maybe, but not AI

It just seems to lack vocal emotion, like much of the Trilogy. Billie is very monotone during it and doesn't sing very convincingly.

yeh, that's true, he's singing like you slept at 4 am in the morning and you have to get up at 6 'cause you gotta go to school :D

Yeah, idk why they never did that, but it would be hard to do and then go back in key/back in beat

why should an average drummer be replaced by a downright bad one?
