Fuck Time is ok, but the chorus riff and solo are damn good - they save it for me.

The cover album was very meh. Some good songs, some bad songs, but overall meh. Having said that, I think it's fantastic that American Idiot is still relevant enough that all those bands wanted to cover it, and I respect all of them for doing it.

Yeah, it would have been awesome, but they probably saw it as too over the top and kind of ridiculous. Restraint is an underrated skill in songwriting. But I'd be willing to make an exception for this one; it's a shame they weren't.

I feel like now that Green Day are getting older they feel the need to show off their amazing drum,bass,and guitar solos in the trilogy it kinda seemed like a midlife crisis thing to me but don't get me wrong I love the trilogy and all of their other albums and I'm glad they like to try new things musically.

They've been showing off ever since the first album. Billie's solos on the first two albums, Tre's drumming on Dookie and American Idiot, Mike's bass all the time ever excluding Warning, AI and Breakdown. I don't see how they're even trying anything new in that respect, if anything they're just going back to how they were pre-AI. Which is a good thing.

the whole "pre-AI" aspect of things as you put it to me is what they were talking about with the whole "Green Day is going back to their roots" concept. I think everyone took that the wrong way, maybe thinking with the general "construction" of the album for lack of a better word, but to me I think what you said is what they meant

That's a very good point, and I agree. People were silly for expecting Dookie again, the band were nearly 20 years older and to do that would have just been ridiculous. Seeing Green Day go the same way as The Offspring would have been tragic.

ehh yeah I can see where you're coming from, although recently Offspring has changed it up a bit. Either way in my opinion the Trilogy for me at least is sort of an alluding breath of fresh air from the band after the whole concept album stuff. I think that's what they were trying to go for, but could've done it a bit better of they kept the guitars the way they had them on Demolicious

People did take it the wrong way, since Green Day never said they were going back to their roots. When they were in the early stages of making the albums they said that they were at the stage of being "back to the roots" of making an album, purely just talking about how far along they were and not commenting on what it'd sound like at all, then a crappy article reported that they'd said the new album would be back to their roots and like Dookie and others ran with it, and then people expected an album like Dookie. The whole thing was a fabrication.
