Because it's simply the best fucking Green Day record ever made. True fans will never pick AI. Dookie is The Shit!

Oh goodie, it's the factual opinionated thread again. I can't wait to see what uncharted territory of fandom this roller coaster will reveal.

Posted

I think we've covered all the territories of fandom.... "I'll love every single thing Billie ever shits out," to "Fuck Green Day, I don't even know why I'm on this forum."

I love dookie, and I could probably write some crummy words about why (not even a shadow of what this is, though), but... fuck it, I'm not having this conversation again. you almost had me, saucy siren.

It all comes down to this little cluster of bits and bytes and whatnot

'that song is deceptively difficult, as is pretty much everything Green Day plays'

Lol no.

Dookie is NOT the best GD cd and i became a fan in 1994 a few months after Dookie came out...

i agree with that for me its Insomniac

Because it's Green Day and it's an amazing album? No one should ever feel the need to justify loving an album, no matter how much time has passed since it's released.

What a great read! Along with that awesome updated version of the cover posted about in Random News earlier this has put me in the mood to give the album a listen.

Notice how the author of the blog was able to articulate why they like Dookie so much without trying to start some kind of fight between two albums or adding childish comments about "true fans".

What exactly is a true fan?

Personally, my favorite Green Day album and the one I believe is the best they've made is American Idiot. 60% of that belief comes from the fact that AI was what got me into Green Day and into the music world in general, besides what my parents played in the house. I got wrapped up in the storyline, and the songs were varied enough that it guided me into the world of rock music from BOBD all the way to Letterbomb. Before that, little guy me listened to whatever he heard on the radio in the car. Green Day's story in AI sucked me in, and to this day I hold is close to my heart as if it is a good friend. The album speaks to me, and the older I grow, the more so it does this.

I'm not sure what my second favorite Green Day album is. I go through phases. This month it's Dookie due to the coming of its 20th Birthday. Dookie, similar to American Idiot, speaks to me. This is the reason it is still rocking and selling copies to this day. It relays a universal picture of growing up. It expresses the dirty and embarrassing nature of the teen years in a light-hearted, almost comedic way. It has biting sarcasm and complete apathy for itself, and that makes me love it.

Whether or not Dookie is Green Day's best album is hard to say; impossible really. But the fact that it speaks to people who probably didn't even listen to it until it was 10 yrs old (AI era time) and continues to speak to generation after generation shows that this album has a whole lot of passion, meaning, and quality. It's simply one of the best albums ever made.

I can tell who is not a true fan.

Not true fan - A person who first heard about Green Day in their AI times and who thinks AI is their best album ever. A teenager who never listens to 39/Smooth and does not appreciate Dookie as the album who made Green Day the band they are today. Only screams Billie's name even though Mike is obviously hotter. Listens to 21st century breakdown album even though it was a disaster. Thinks 21st century breakdown is the best album. Everyone who didn't masturbate atleast once during Longview. Everyone under 18...

Personally I think you're all cunts for not being Slappy era fans, like the #truefans are. But there you go.

I can tell who is not a true fan.

To be fair, I do agree with a bit of that. Though I'm listening to Breakdown now :P

Why do you hate American Idiot so much?

Im a bit offended by that, im 17 and I love american idiot and breakdown more than a couple old albums, partly because those are the albums i grew up with, so why would that make me any less of a true fan? i still love kerplunk and 39/smooth almost as much. Based on green days work the past 10 years, the majority of their fans are obviously rooted from american idiot. make any sense? who knows, im blazed.

There's no such thing as a "real fan." A fan is still a fan. I love AI. I also love Dookie. I think 21CB is good, not the best. I know Green Day's music inside and out, but since I love AI I'm not a fan?

That isn't a reason to hate the album. Only a reason to hate those fans. The album is the same regardless of who likes it.

No it's not. Green Day wasn't mainstream before AI. They were punk rock before but then they made a rock opera and gave birth to poser fans.

Shut Up

Fine, feed away. But don't come crying to me when he shits on your head and flies away.
