Today is the 34th anniversary of Kerplunk. I love this record. And I love „Words I might have ate“, and I‘ve just found the following video:

It was an amazing thing for Billie Joe to do, inviting a fan to play on stage with the band, even for just a few minutes. You could tell they where gob smacked. So made up, and a special memory that would be with the fan forever. I understand they got a guitar to keep as well? Nice one GD.

Thinking about how the song Green Day song Oh Yeah! Is a modern version of the song Do You Wanna Touch Me by Gary Glitter, which was latter covered by Joan Jett.

Listening to Saviors on a new pair of over the ear headphones I got for Christmas and man did they deliver such a treat of an album.  They did not have to do this.  I had a couple of drinks and am dancing around to a bunch of the songs.  They are masters man.

Another random thought while listening to Green Day.  Father of All Motherfuckers is likely a result from Revolution Radio being the first time the band backtracked in their career.  It was constant evolution and forward momentum until the backlash from the trilogy.  Don’t get me wrong, Revolution Radio still brought fresh ideas, but it was a return to a more familiar sound.  Father of All Motherfuckers was a return to doing new things and trying to continue an evolution, even if it was unsuccessful.  (This might be obvious, but it sounds profound in my state of mind right now ha)

And this is why we should get a crazier album in 2028!  Keep the 4 year release momentum going boys!   Or switch it to 3 years!

definitely agree about this ! i'm more than certain father of all got a shit ton of backlash too and that's probably what created saviors. 

do new stuff on the trilogy, get like 1.5/5 on ratings for all of them or something around that then make RR to please your fans.

bobby sox is something i had to let grow on me. i didn't like it much. i think father of all isn't actually objectively shit like a bunch of people say. i think i could let that album grow on me if it weren't for the claps. stab you in the heart is a bit of a recent ear worm i've had.

Talking of which, Saviors is holding its own in the latest fan rating charts on greenday.fm, staying at 3rd place. FOAM sadly still bottom in 17th.

I gave Saviors another spin today because the (second!! how can that be!?) anniversary is coming up. It's very much a winter album for me.

Never connected with Goodnight Adeline much until just recently. Maybe it's a slow burn or emotional turmoil that's bringing it to the front for me but I was really digging it. Shares a lot of connective tissue with 21 Guns, similar chords, similar emotional tenor. Gotdang that Billie Joe sure can write him a song.

Bobby Sox was a grower for me too. I went from feeling completely indifferent to it, to it being one of my favorites from the album. It gives me that nostalgic vibe of reminding me of my first love. 

 

And I actually like FOAM. It's not among my favorites, but every now and then I get really into it for a few days. I don't know if it is because I only listened to it years after it came out and in a moment when I had no expectations, for good nor for bad, about the band's new material (I listened to it for the first time a couple of days before the small show in Paris in the Saviors promo tiny tour)
