I actually liked it better than Kerplunk at first, I found the melodies catchier and easier to get into on first hearing (Kerplunk took a few more plays to love). I LOVE the harmonies (Rest!) and the plain sophistication (guitar solos!) for a couple of teenagers. I still can't believe Billie was all of 15-17 when he wrote most of it. His talent blows me away and I shake my head and laugh every time I hear this album , it's so much better than it has a right to be. Exactly! And Going to Pasalacqua is one of their best songs ever, IMO. 5 Quote

Uhh yeah I remember very vividly listening through it for the first time and being blown away by the melodies, lyrics and skill level for such a young band. That said I also had to laugh at the I Was There lyrics (not knowing at the time they were John's) - a bit funny coming from a teenager Side note - I fucking love that song almost as much as Pasalacqua and it saddens me I'll likely never hear it live. Those harmonies are just 3 Quote
pacejunkie punk Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 He may not have written I Was There but I would have believed it if he had. So many of his lyrics were pretty mature and introspective for his age. They were mostly about girls, crushes and rejection as you'd expect but also songs like 16, Android and One of My Lies where he really obsesses over age and mortality like most teenagers don't. You can really see the affects of having lost a parent here on someone who's such a thinker. It's funny, because when he talked later about WMUWSE and how he had never written about his father before, I thought to myself, listen to some of those early songs that are full of themes of death and dying and I disagree. Maybe he didn't realize that it wasn't typical teen subject matter. 4 Quote

Going to Pasalacqua was the first song I heard from 1039/smooth, and it was the song that immediately made me beg my mom to let me order it from Amazon. Still one of my faves. 1 Quote
jengd Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Agree with so much of this, I think Rest is what really made me pay attention to how diverse this band can be, and yes, to have written and recorded see songs at their age still blows me away. Quote

Popular Post pouty bitch Posted August 30, 2017 Popular Post Posted August 30, 2017 I've said this thousands of times before, but I just have to say it again: Bang Bang is one of GD's best songs. I fucking love it so fucking much and it just seems to get better the more I listen to it. It's perfect - the intro, the riff, the vocals, Tre's little drum solo thing - I love all of it. It just blows me away every time I hear it. It's a standout song on RevRad, imo. The fact that they brought out this little gem so far into their career just proves that they've still got some life left in them, and I love them even more for it. 8 Quote

Absolutely, I think it's one of the best punk songs anyone's written for decades. 7 Quote

IcyMoffatt Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 I just saw on Facebook that my boss' boyfriend has a GD vinyl from before Tré joined the band and it's in a very good condition. I'm so jealous. I want it! Quote

billietremike9324 Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 I had a dream last night where I was friends with Billie's kids and we went on tour with them. I think Mike and Tre's kids were in the dream as well but, it was very vague. lol! It was weird too cause the guys usually don't bring their kids on tour with them. lmao! It was a fun dream though. I was just about to post this in the news thread. lmao! I need coffee... 1 Quote

Popular Post stories and songs Posted September 1, 2017 Popular Post Posted September 1, 2017 Even though it has been almost five (!!!) years since Billie went to rehab, I still find it such a difficult subject to speak about. Just tonight on the way home from our concert, my mom was like, "So he was in rehab a few years ago, right?" And I just found it so jarring. I don't even know if there's anything I can say on the subject, because going through that period was such an impossibly difficult, scary time for folks like us, and I get that it's hard for outsiders to understand how much a guy we don't know's health count impact us. And his recovery has been the most intimate, beautiful, rewarding thing to see through this entire era. Our gratitude and the band's gratitude are both through the roof — like we know better than to take each other for granted now. It's not something casual listeners can possibly comprehend. It kinda bothers me that they'd perhaps make assumptions about him or about us as fans because of what happened, though. 9 Quote
