"Educational" Green Day Song

As some of you may know I'm a 4th grade teacher and I use my guitar in the classroom to help my kids learn. One of the things I also do is change lyrics to Green Day songs to encourage kids to read and pick up a book and go to the library. (www.ReadDay.com)

I was recently invited by the Maryland State Teachers Association to perform at their convention in front of about 1,000 teachers. I was just sent a video link to the performance.

I should preface this by saying that the sound people had some major difficulties with my background music I had playing (I pre-record my own bass line and drums myself) and I could NOT HEAR the track AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was completely guessing at the beat!

That's why I had to play the muted frets during the verse and I TOTALLY lost track of where I was at the end of the song so don't give me shit!

Like it! Make a comment! Be nice!

I wanna go to the library

I wanna go and I wanna read

Don't wanna sit around and watch TV cuz

I wanna go to the library

I pledge allegiance to reading on my own

I'd rather read than watch TV or talking on the phone

The books on the shelf--I wanna read them all

Without a doubt I'll check them out and I can take them home so....

I wanna go to the library

I wanna go and I wanna read

Don't wanna sit around and watch TV cuz

I wanna go to the library

Reading all the time

Every chance that I can get

Learning all the time

What can I read now?

Only one place to go...

One book, one mind

I'm reading by myself

When I am done I'll find another and pull it off the shelf

So many books to read

So many books to know

They're free for all

I'd read them all

Using my own mind so.....

I wanna go to the library

I wanna go and I wanna read

Don't wanna sit around and watch TV cuz

I wanna go to the library

Excellent! I bet your kids just love you. It was a long time ago, but to this day I still remember and cherish the memory of my teacher playing the guitar while we all plugged our noses and sang along to Pink Floyd, "...we don't need no education..."

(come to think of it, unlike your song, not a really positive message there...hmm)

This is seriously great. I had no idea you did this. So awesome! :)
