Hi All

My grandson (teen ager) is very ill and in the hospital. He has no energy to even read. I know he loves greenday and I want to get him a dvd concert he can watch and listen to. The hospital has a dvd player (not blue ray). This would be a huge lift for him. I'm not familiar with greenday so I thought I would ask those who are and can recommend a dvd. Thanks for any input.

regards

Hello Tommy's Grandma. The best one is definitely "Bullet In A Bible". It's a live concert from 2005 recorded in England. Pretty sure it's still carried in stores like Best Buy.

Best wishes to your grandson and family. Hope he's feeling well very soon.

Hi Andres

Thanks for your suggestion. I want to get him one he would like but at the same time I have to be mindful that he is in the hospital. I checked and some of the songs are rated explicit. Not sure how that would go over. Would you say that I will run into that issue with any of their concerts?

Thanks so much for your well wishes

Both of their concert DVDs have swearing. The other one is in fact called Awesome As Fuck!. Bullet in a Bible is by far the better of the two, though. Is there a headphone socket he could use?

Unfortunately, yes. All their concerts will have curse words and other ... non PG material. The only way to really avoid that is to find some television appearances where they usually censor the cursing and don't have the other "stuff".

If he doesn't really have the privacy where a rated R movie would be shown, I probably wouldn't take it to the hospital. It can get pretty suggestive (for the lack of a better term). There's a part where the lead singer has his hands down his pants pretending to masturbate. Not sure how well that'd go over with other patients.

The best option might be to avoid the concerts and maybe take "International Supervideos". A collection of all of Green Day's music videos through 2002 or so. There might be some cursing in those during the songs, but all the content of the music videos themselves isn't too questionable. Still will have some cursing though.

Sadly Green Day's music isn't too hospital friendly.

Well, some other unofficial DVD (But really cool) could be: "Live without Warning" and "Live at Fox Theater 2009". Also, if you have the chance, look for "Vh1 Storytellers, Green Day" it was a Tv show concert which is pretty rad, too.

Thanks Andres

I will look into the International Supervideos and talk to my son first (Tommys dad) before getting it, parents will have the last say.

Thanks for your input The Disappearing Boy

Well, congrats to Tommy for having such a great grandma. I would recommend you Bullet in a Bible even though it has some parts that maybe be vulgar, but it's great.

Best wishes to him.

It's not a DVD

i know, but there are torrents available ( can't post links here) which she can download and put them in a dvd.

Bullet In A Bible, definitely! :woot: And also Awesome As Fuck. Both are great choices :)

I hope (and I know) it will make him feel better... and I hope he gets better!

I definitely would say Bullet in a Bible, if possible. Sorry I don't have anything to add.

I hope Tommy feels better soon.

Andres, how nice you are to people honestly makes me really happy.

This thread gave me the warm and fuzzies. Tommy clearly has an awesome as fuck grandmother and I hope he feels better soon. I'd say a massive dose of Green Day should be a big help.

if she likes the word "ENGLAND", she'll be thrilled with BIAB :)

Awesome as F**k is also a good concert DVD.

I can suggest you also "Life Without Warning DVD"

It's really cool you're doing this for you're grandson, I hope he gets better. Anyways, wasn't there an official concert DVD put out for the "Pop Disaster Tour" also? Or was that just a documentary?

What about Cuatro?

What about Cuatro?

I was surprised no one said that already.

Bullet in a Bible and Awesome as Fuck are definitely the easiest for Tommy's grandmother to find at a store or online. Getting unofficial DVDs is not as easy, as they aren't carried in stores and are only on select online retailers. Awesome as Fuck has the bad word right in it's title, but wouldn't you guys say most of the songs on there have less swears than Bullet in a Bible? It's been a while since I've watched either. Cuatro is also a great choice, it was just released in September. It's not much of a live concert, but more a documentary of how Green Day created their most recent albums, but it does feature quite a bit of live clips and performances. If Tommy hasn't listened to any of their new albums though, it won't be as entertaining for him. I really hope Tommy gets better, and I'd just like to say what an awesome grandmother he has, looking for ways to cheer him up, and venturing out onto the internet to look for help. That's amazingly sweet and I hope he gets better soon
