Does anyone know how many copies each of those albums has sold?

Not that many. Next question.

I know that in their first weeks, Uno sold 139,000, Dos sold 69,000 and Tre 58,000. We have to take into account that new albums tend to sell less the nearer to Christmas they're released, though.

Not nearly enough

Really? I thought it would be more since people would be buying them as Christmas presents (that's how I got them...).

Yeah, it's counter intuitive really. The charts (over here at least) tend to be dominated by Christmas compilation albums, greatest hits and X Factor releases.

58, 000 wow! that is not good....

December is known as suicide month in the music industry as most labels close down second week of Dec and don't re-open til mid January

Yep! It got slaughtered despite being the best of the three musically, which is a shame.

Quite weird that they chose to move Tre's release from January to December. I get that they probably wanted to get it out early to make up for the tour being cancelled of something, but you'd have thought that maybe they'd want to at least push for more album sales as a result of lost revenue from the tour.

I still say the trilogy was meant for the fans and not so much for new fans so they weren't concerned with the sales so much

Well yeah, that makes sense. I just mean moving Tre forward seemed like a bizarre move, I'm not sure whether it was related to what happened with Billie or not.

Single chart positions can give a good idea: The only one that charted in the US was Oh Love (97) and in the UK Let Yourself Go got to 193 and Kill the DJ got to 110. They did a bit better in the alternative charts and in some european charts, but none of the singles got into the top 20.

I can't help but think they gave up. The record label, that is. I don't know why they didn't hold dos and tre off until billie was better and promote them properly. they would have done a lot better i'm sure. maybe it would have been too much for billie.

I can't help but think it's because every song is so touched up/computerized. Honestly, for me, the live versions are so much better. Especially Let Yourself Go.

I still like the 3 albums but if they were more raw, it would have been way better.

The trilogy is the most raw since Insomniac...there's not too many added production effects

It's pretty raw as Green Day albums go. I think the problem compared to the live versions is guitar tone, it's a lot weaker than previous albums due to using different gear. It's A LOT less polished in production than 21st Century Breakdown.

If the trilogy was computerized then I'd hate to know how AI is considered since AI has 1000x more production done to it than the trilogy...

The production on the trilogy was set up to make it sound like it was recorded live but some reason it seems like Billie is too scared to actually do a live album as he been saying for 10 years he wants to do a "lo fi live album" they should just do it....

The way it was set up to make it sound live when it wasn't plus the clean guitars makes for a weird sounding result plus now that the sound isn't full the vocal filters (not auto tune...) Billie uses stand out more on AI and 21st the filter wasn't all that noticeable cause the music was full and loud the clean tone on the trilogy wasn't all in your face so the vocal filter was more noticeable and that threw people off... I love the trilogy production but I also understand why other people don't like it

But the trilogy wasn't over produced as some call it this is the least produced album GD has done since the Lookout Records era

I thought the instruments were recorded and mixed perfectly, the vocals ruined it though.

Some songs didn't work with a clean tone perfect example Capre Diem would have sounded a lot better with a dirty tone

I don't think the vocals were ruined as I don't mind the vocals on it but they should have lowered the effect of the filter to accommodate the clean sound of the album like on AI you don't notice Billie's vocals have a filter on them unless you listen to the acapella tracks

I think it's the other way around, actually. I like the vocals on the trilogy but I feel like the instrumentals sound much too clean for my liking, especially the guitar. At least on most of the songs.

Yeah, having heard the isolated vocal versions of American Idiot, especially BOBD, the vocal filter is VERY prominent, but it's hidden by how the music is produced, making it sound more natural. It just makes it sound more full and reverby, as it should. The fact it's not so masked on the trilogy makes it sound weird.

Posted

Yeah maybe raw isn't the right word. It just doesn't sound natural to me. Let BJA just sing.

So what is the difference between vocal filters and autotune then?

Autotune corrects the pitch. Filters have various purposes, primarily reverb, delay, EQ and compression.

Pretty sure they went at least gold by now.
