WhiteTim Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 9 years ago AI came out helped get new fans and old fans to fall back in Green Day's camp From the opening guitar strums of the title track to the chaos of St Jimmy to the final drum of Whatshername Green Day presented a rock opera that had long been missing in rock for years. I had pre ordered the book version from Amazon but the album didn't really impressed me until 2010 until then I only liked a few of the tracks now I listen to it all whenever I put it on
Firecracker Lell Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Holy fuck...9 years? It's September?! What a deep OP ( no kidding )
Steven Seagull Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 AI was released on september 20, not september 21.
Firecracker Lell Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 AI was released on september 20, not september 21. Sep.20 in the UK, Sep.21 in the US. Both are right!

WhiteTim Posted September 21, 2013 Author Posted September 21, 2013 Nah, it's fine. Pretty much sums up everything about AI. Everyone knows it's a political rock opera. Lol yeah
Insomniac85 Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 I was a senior in high school when it came out. I remember picking it up after school and falling in love with it. such a great record.
Oxymore Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 I discovered GD with this album... god ♥ (ok I was 6 when it came out but I heard it first time when I was 9-10)
Guest Trotsky Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 I can't even describe how important American Idiot is for me.
The Disappearing Boy Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 LOL Only just. Dookie is a close second, with the other coming in not too far behind. But AI just tops it. But only just.
don'tdreamitbeit Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 American Idiot is one of the albums that changed my life. The first time I listened to Jesus of Suburbia, I was astounded. I didn't know that music could sound that spectacular. The album helped me evolve my musical taste and helped me to discover some of my favorite bands. Seeing the musical on tour was one of the greatest nights of my life. My friends and I were lucky enough to win the raffle tickets and we moved from the very back row, to the second row orchestra pit! It was an amazing night, and I will never forget it. This album just means so much to me!
Mar Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Aww man, time flies. I still have moments all the time where it feels like it's still 2004 and that the album is brand new. The first time I listened to Jesus of Suburbia, I was astounded. I didn't know that music could sound that spectacular. EXACTLY. I remember listening to JOS for the first time with my Walkman at my grandma's house and I couldn't fathom what I was hearing.
mallorymaloney Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 jesus christ it's been nine years???? wtf no
Liam Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 No love for UNO? UNO will get it's anniversary on the 25th as that's when the American release happens and we go by those dates
Clean Cut Asshole Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Happy birthday to a kick ass record!
Steven Seagull Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Only just. Dookie is a close second, with the other coming in not too far behind. But AI just tops it. But only just. Dookie is the album that made Green Day the band they are today. So no, I can never agree Dookie is second to AI. AI is great album but not as good as Dookie.

AI is great album but not as good as Dookie. And that's your opinion. People are allowed to consider American Idiot the greatest album without being laughed at.
