What if Billie Joe was a judge on a talent competition show for bands?

The title says it all.

For the longest time, I've wondered why there hasn't been a show like American Idol, X-Factor or the Voice for bands to compete on. I think it would be pretty awesome. And of course there would be celebrity judges.

Since Billie is getting into acting a bit now and he was on the Voice last year as a mentor, I wondered if he would be interested in doing something like this. I mean, it's not just a singing competition but for bands. And as somebody who has been in a band for over 20 years, I think he would be good.

Another judge could be Dave Grohl, for example since he has a lot of band experience and has a funny personality.

And as a female judge, maybe Gwen Stefani or Joan Jett. I would suggest Courtney Love but... I don't know how Dave would feel about that.

I think for the show, the bands would perform original songs (with maybe one or two covers thrown in or whatever) based on like a topic they get each week (ballad, rock anthem, charity song, etc). Maybe there will be some shake--ups, like taking good band members from shitty bands and putting them together with other bands or something.

What do you guys think?

I would not be excited about it. I'd watch, because that's what I do, but I'd rather him be focusing on his own music.

I think it'd be pretty cool actually. I'm actually quite into The Voice UK, and have continued to follow a handful of the people on it after the show has finished. The thing is though, there'd be too much of a backlash. People can be great and very popular in the context of a show, but when it finishes and they're out there on their own in the real world up against "real" established bands, they fade away into obscurity. Imagine that on top of purists already being against manufactured bands. If it was going to happen, Billie would be a good judge given Green Day's mainstream success and punk roots. But it would fail as a show, because no one likes to see a rock band get a fast pass to mainstream success.

It could be a cool idea, but.... not with Billie Joe. I don't imagine him on TV at all... (and I could not help but laugh, dunno what I have with it....) (just imagining him on TV makes me laugh xD)

I think it would be really cool to see him in these kind of things, i really loved what he did on The Voice, but i prefer to see him on the stage, with his band, the kind of things he's good at it

The idea of a talent show just for bands makes me kinda uneasy... I mean its nice to get exposure but i think most, if not all the bands I know and love, got their success by skill and work and all that; not by winning talent shows :/
