Iva Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Video of Having A Blast from the first live performance of Dookie which I recorded from the front row with my non-professional camera was removed from YouTube and I received a copyright strike. I thought it was just a single case, but then I noticed that a lot of videos, all of them from the same show in Belgrade, are missing from playlists such as this one: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjjythCHe2XxKvni6gVyYml6TKcVUNqXJ As a precaution, I made all my remaining videos from that concert private, and I am not sure if that would help me or anybody else not get suspended by YouTube, but perhaps it could? I also did a search for "Dookie Vienna" and all the videos are still there: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=dookie+vienna&oq=dookie+vienna&gs_l=youtube.3...20045.21477.0.21695.13.12.0.1.1.0.132.893.9j3.12.0...0.0...1ac.1.11.youtube.MU0KNPnyjhk Searches for "Dookie Reading", "Dookie Leeds" and "Dookie Brixton Academy" also yield results with nothing removed; but it would be interesting to monitor the situation to see what happens next. I thought I'd post this as a warning to everybody else whom has videos from the 27th May show and, well, perhaps there's a logical reason for it. *shrug*
Cath Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 i maybe expect something with these lives to be release next year for the 20th anniversary of Dookie, so maybe it's the reason they're removing them. also they didn't show the dookie part at reading live. (well i think?) so that would make sense in the logic that WB wants $$ because more people will buy it if they aren't able to see it on youtube.
Guest Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 They've been doing this since the first couple of days after the Brixton show. They're probably just trying to remove all the good quality stuff.
dangreenday Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i hope they only take down the shows that they use so we dont miss out
Iva Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 That they use for what? Are you implying something? Also, a lot of sub-par stuff recorded from the back seems to have been removed, too.
Hermione Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 That they use for what? Are you implying something? Also, a lot of sub-par stuff recorded from the back seems to have been removed, too. They're probably removing it because they're planning to release footage of them playing Dookie that they've recorded themselves (or they might not actually have plans, but are doing it just in case they decide to). If people can watch footage of Dookie being played live on Youtube, they'll be less likely to buy a DVD to see it. It's standard for bands/bands' management to do that, if they're planning to release a live DVD of something they'll want to limit the amount of footage of it that's out there for free so it's worth buying.
BullwinkleCheech Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 There's probably not a lot of stuff from the Milton Keynes shows up either. Just copyrights I guess
naliuj Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Yeah. What other people have said with that they are probably planning on releasing those live tracks. Maybe sometime after a new live album or something comes out you could put them up? I've seen a few Awesome as Fuck videos on youtube from people in the audience.

I guess I'm not used to that, as hardly any band would ever do a Live from Belgrade anything; and, well, no other band did anything special here, just them (which is, of course, comforting in this case). Since you're not the chaotic Mediterranean type like me and you can think straight, any idea if it would be safe to keep the non-Dookie videos public? I have six years worth of big shows here, I have Amy Winehouse's last show on my channel (uh...the only other special thing here, ever) and I wouldn't want to lose my stuff. Maybe sometime after a new live album or something comes out you could put them up? That's what I thought as well. Now I still can't grasp that somebody would watch a video where I'm screaming DOOOO YOUU EVER THINK BACK TOOOO ANOTHER TIME as opposed to something with perfect sound.

(pro shot) and now on my computer.

I'm afraid I don't know, I've never put videos on Youtube so I can't really give any advice except that it's always a good idea to make sure you have videos saved on your computer/somewhere else as well as on Youtube just in case.
The Disappearing Boy Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 The only reason they are removing them from youtube is because it is illegal to have them there. I had a performance of dookie on my account until yesterday when it was removed.

WhiteTim Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Is it seriously illegal? There're tons of concert videos there. Technically it's not legal...

Why would somebody remove them from their computer, anyway? Then again, I tend to save up everything like a total pack rat.
The Disappearing Boy Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Is it seriously illegal? There're tons of concert videos there. Yep. There are hundreds and I think some of them are somehow endorsed by the music labels and so have adverts, but it is still technically illegal.

I don't know haha, I know it's happened to some people though. It's probably when people upload on to Youtube from their phone and then end up deleting it from there.

Could I get in trouble for having videos from my concert?
WhiteTim Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Woah, I thought live videos were legal. Could I get in trouble for having videos from my concert? You can but they don't really go after people it'd cost to much for them to sue everyone they tend to seek those who are selling bootlegs and such It does state on your ticket stub no video or recording decices are not allowed but really i f I was you I wouldn't worry bout youtube

The worse they'll do is remove your account. That happened to me once and it was kinda annoying, but it's not the end of the world.

I was kind of worried. The worse they'll do is remove your account. That happened to me once and it was kinda annoying, but it's not the end of the world. I really hope I don't ever get removed. It takes me forever to upload stuff.
Iva Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 That's precisely why I was concerned about mine; not to mention stats, the sentimental value of comments etc.
The Disappearing Boy Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 The thing I'd be most bothered about is clicking on the youtube button on my browser and seeing all the videos recommended for me. I'd miss that if my account were deleted.
