dewik Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Here's an interesting tidbit about Green Day you wouldn't know about Green Day unless you were a Canadian fan (since all of us Canadians are hockey-mad). Green Day and hockey are intertwined in many ways, more than any other sport. First of all, as you probably know, Green Day play in a ton of NHL ice hockey arena's during their North American tour. When I saw them in 2006 in Ottawa this is where I saw them at. Also if you watch a single game of NHL hockey, no matter where a game is played, you will hear a green day song when they play music between whistles. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that hockey arena DJs love Green Day more than any other band. Here's a short list of the most popular GD songs you here at hockey games, in order of the most common ones heard: know your enemy (all the time!), holiday (you can put money on it that you'll hear this one at hockey games), when I come around, American idiot, welcome to paradise, basketcase, brain stew. other GD songs are also played from time to time, but the ones I listed are fairly common. In fact I even heard church on sunday played once! I enjoyed seeing Tre Cool's instagram pic this past spring when he was at the San Joe Shark's hockey game. Chances are he heard one of his own songs during the game. I wonder how if feels to be in a public setting with thousands of people and hearing yourself over the speakers unexpectedly. In fact if you went to a Vancouver Canucks hockey game a couple years ago you woulda heard Holiday every game, since it was used as the team's official goal song. How fucking awesome would that be for someone who is a green day fan and a Canucks fan!?. everytime you celebrate a big goal youd be able to rock out to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aO7MRdVcsrk. pretty fuckin awesome eh? Another time I read a sports illustrated article where they asked some big time athletes what their favourite concert was and Chicago Black Hawks superstar Patrick Kane said his favourite concert ever was Green Day's concert in Buffalo during the 21 CB tour. Anyway as an avid hockey fan, I thought this would be a interesting observation for those who may not even know a thing about the sport. I hope all members of Green Day enjoy hockey, because hockey has been very good to Green Day!
The Forgotten Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 This thread is so Canadian I can barely handle it. I don't know about the other stuff, but I do often hear Holiday when I go see some OHL games.
Todd Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Green Day and Baseball: Every Phillie's game I've gone to, they always play Know Your Enemy, Holiday, and the end of Basket Case Every baseball game I've gone to, since 2009, regardless of team or league, they always play know your enemy

Carrot Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I went to an AHL game (Lake Erie Monsters) and dont recall a green day song being played. though thats the american hockey league. green day is played a lot at the KSU basketball games
Silent Duck Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I enjoyed seeing Tre Cool's instagram pic this past spring when he was at the San Joe Shark's hockey game. Chances are he heard one of his own songs during the game. I wonder how if feels to be in a public setting with thousands of people and hearing yourself over the speakers unexpectedly. I'd say he's quietly cowering in fear hoping everyone around him doesn't realise who he is and immediately try to start beating the shit out of him for releasing know your enemy on the world.
Fish Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 The Canucks played Holiday every time after Vancouver scored a goal a couple seasons ago. (9:20) One of very few reasons to root for the CaSucks. You're right though. Of the big 4 North American sports, the NHL is where you go if you most want to hear Green Day. Last year I remember hearing songs from When I Come Around to Brain Stew to Know Your Enemy to Hitchin A Ride. In January at the Broncos-Ravens playoff game in Denver, Holiday was played in between the extra point and kickoff after Denver made it 35-28 with several minutes to go. When I heard that I was like, "Well, we must be destined to win this game if they're playing Green Day." I was wrong.
Jean Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I always thought Tre was a Habs fan. (Montreal Canadiens) There are a few pics of him wearing a Habs jersey from the Nimrod era.

AlissaGoesRAWR Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Actually, you're right, I heard WICA at BGSU's hockey games this past year... and I went to their concert at the Pittsburgh Penguins arena... Interesting observations...
fatherotti Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 During the 06-07 season, the San Jose Sharks Goal song was Holiday. Of course the fans hated it though.
boringdays Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Here in Detroit the Red Wings play Mother Mary often. Kind of obscure if you ask me but I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned with as often as they play it.

Someone not from Colorado who liked the Avs! I thought everyone hated us back then. Now that the Avalanche are terrible, I've looked back on the late 90's and early 00's and just shook my head realizing how good those teams were we had. Sakic, Forsberg, Foote, Roy, Hejduk, Tanguay, Blake, Bourque for a little while, Hinote, I mean that roster was loaded. I miss it badly. I'm optimistic with Roy as coach and Sakic as an integral part of the organization, they can start to turn things around with a very solid and young offensive nucleus. Duchene, Landeskog, McKinnon, and Stastny are as good as they come, now we just need a defense. They won't contend for a Cup this year or next, but I'd like to think they'll make the playoffs now that there's a bit more of a spark with the Avs. When Sacco was coach, there was a reason nothing got going. There was no energy on the team. Now they've got it. And since the conference realignment, my new hockey dream is one day we'll see a Colorado-Detroit Stanley Cup final, which would be the most beautiful thing in hockey history... As long as the Lanche win. The Red Wings can go to hell.
