Sanity Loan Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 The full editorial can be read over on GDA: http://www.greendayauthority.com/news/4490/ Here is a taste:After releasing three albums in quick succession this past year and fresh off a world-wide tour in (somewhat) support of those albums, naturally, us fans are already asking ourselves, “What is on the horizon for Green Day?” Specifically, “Where does the band go next in terms of their music and when do we get to hear it?” Quite frankly, we won’t know. But the fact they have released 11 studio albums and have been around since “19-fuckin’-88,” they can certainly do whatever the hell they want and we know that it’ll be good. Green Day has been all over the map when it comes to their sound and musical style. Compare Insomniac to Warning for example. Hell, even compare the latest albums ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré! to themselves. Everything the band has released over the past quarter century is nothing alike. And you know what? That is damn exciting for us fans and it certainly is for the band. They don’t have to make an album like Dookie or American Idiot again to be successful, and they aren’t putting any pressure on themselves to do so. As they’ve proven 11 times, whatever they put out is a hit and people cannot get enough of it. Sorry, those who are stuck in the mid-1990s, the next album won’t be like Dookie. (continue reading)
St. Christian Of Suburbia Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 As far as touring goes, I think it'd be pretty cool if the ¡Trilogy! era continued a little longer but they consider the 99 Rev. Tour over and in early 2014 begin an "Anniversary Tour" or something along those lines. The shows could span all their albums but focus mainly on Dookie and American Idiot (they're doing a good deal of that already so it'd be an easy transition). I could see some cool merch coming out of it too.
inthehallwaynow Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 i think they should take a long time before putting anything new out (not said in a mean way) i just think a good break from the actual music making process might be good like take a step backward and when they come back they have a new and fresh perspective instead of stagnating..
Castr0 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 One thing is sure, they're not touring in 2014 (except the Australian dates) if they were touring in 2014 the band would kept the "full Dookie setlist" for next year. And as we all know, they won't take one year to relax and do nothing. Billie Joe even said in Cuatro! that they must keep doing music to keep them of being rusty or something like that (not very sure haha). They won't pass a year without any Green Day event so I guess 2014 will be full of surprises ! I guess earliest 2015.
Nemo. Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 It's a good article but I think or I hope that this was not the full tour. I'd be really disappointed, because in my opinioin it was not a "real" tour (at least in Europe) in comparison with the 21st CB tour.

I'd be really disappointed, because in my opinioin it was not a "real" tour (at least in Europe) in comparison with the 21st CB tour. The 21CB tour was way too long, I think they mentioned it last year or in 2011. as long as they do some sort of tour before starting the next album, i don't care. it can be dookie anniversary or another leg of the trilogy tour or whatever, as long as i get to see them again i'll be happy. i'm really excited to see what they come up with next, but i'm not in any rush. i'm still enjoying the trilogy. i imagine we'll see a new album sometime in 2015 at the absolute earliest. Early 2015 will be perfect, with a little surprise in 2014.
Castr0 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 what makes you so sure they're not touring in 2014? i'm almost positive they will at some point. i won't be surprised if when they do tour in 2014 they'll play the same setlist they did at reading and leeds, the hits and full dookie, but there's no way of knowing. I don't know. I can't explain why but I feel like they want to pass to another thing.
Nemo. Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 The 21CB tour was way too long, I think they mentioned it last year or in 2011. Early 2015 will be perfect, with a little surprise in 2014. It was really long, indeed, but they played in much more cities and more fans got to see them. But this tour was way too short. Nor real Uk Tour, only two (with rock am see, gladbach, berlin last year counted in, 5 ) one in spain, france were idk 2 or three? ... and they have to gain money with touring and I don't know if the money they get for festival appearences is that much. so idk, i hope there is something to follow because i thought the 99 revolutions tour was very poor. setlist wise and length-wise
Spike Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 With two major anniversaries next year, they're obviously going to promote those records. I can't see them doing American Idiot AND Dookie in full at a gig, though. So I think it'd be cool if they did a short tour where they did each album in full at consecutive gigs, in order, followed by a greatest hits set, like Ash did a couple of years ago. Can you imagine 1039 or Kerplunk in full?! Obviously not going to happen, but there we go.

ThranaM Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I think they will do a "Trilogy" tour but with most Dookie and AI songs
Bastard of 1969 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I think they will do a "Trilogy" tour but with most Dookie and AI songs Well, not EVERY song is gonna be Dookie or AI.
ThranaM Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Well, not EVERY song is gonna be Dookie or AI. That's why I wrote "Trilogy" tour
Certified Nimrod Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 A new EP before Australia? I doubt it, but your guess is as good as mine.
The Disappearing Boy Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I agree with pretty much all of that. I suspect we'll see an anniversary tour next year. I'm not sure if we'll see much of an AI anniversary, that might have to wait 'til its 20 year anniversary, but I wouldn't mind that. I do just have that feeling that the next album is gonna be a blockbuster. This era has been a disappointment, and Green Day has a track record of coming back well from disappointments. E: I like the idea of an EP, but I can't see it happening. But you never know.
Hermione Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Good article! Why is everyone so sure they're gonna do LOADS of Dookie and AI stuff? As far as I recall they did absolutely nothing for Dookie's 10 year anniversary, and that was months before AI came out so it wasn't just because the success of AI was there to distract from it. I think they'll mark it in some way, especially as those are the two albums they can/do play in full, but I wouldn't count on 2014 being nothing but a year long Dookie/AI fest. I hope it isn't anyway, celebrating past albums is cool but only if they're moving forwards to new things as well and not solely dwelling on the past. Also I think they'll tour next year. I know they probably want to cut back on it compared with previous tours but if this is it it's really cutting back, going round playing festivals is usually just a warm up/extra and there's still loads of places they'd usually play that they haven't. I think (and hope) they're just taking longer breaks in between legs to make sure they get some rest and don't push themselves too hard.
Ryan Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I REALLY think that they will do a Dookie/AI tour next year and play both albums in full. It's just what my guy is telling me. And it would be fucking awesome in my opinion.
MaraGreenDay Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Great article!!! I'm not sure what's in the future for the boys, and i think i don't wanna know, i'm still enjoying the trilogy, i love those albums so much. Whatever they sound for the next album, whatever are the lyrics, i'm sure it's gonna be fucking awesome, because, it's Green Day.
R_Z-Log Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 As much as I was hoping that they'd go back on tour this year in the U.S., I'm fine with whatever they decide to do (not that they need my approval haha). It's so rare to find a band that's been around as long as they have, and that are still killing it on tours and making awesome new music. As long as they keep doing what they're doing, and whatever they do next is done with passion and integrity, I'll be happy with it.
! Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 My prediction is that they're going to make music. I know it sounds crazy, but I think I'm on to something.
JOE THE X-KID Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 My prediction is that they're going to make music. I know it sounds crazy, but I think I'm on to something. what kind of sorcery is this?? Are you a wizard?
jacknovella Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Personally I hope they do end up going for the low fi technology 'shitty' sound that Billie talked about, if he's having that kind of feeling this early on I think you could argue he'll feel even more strongly about it in the future when it comes to recording a new album(s). In essence it would be like American Idiot...with a retro kinda sound I guess? Very raw and visceral. That would be fucking amazing.
Ritz Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Good article! Personally, I believe we'll see a lot of Green Day in 2014. They'd probably wanna rest till December, I dont know. Then they'll embark on tour again or record new stuff! Who know? Its Green Day, right? I mean, hell, a year ago I wasn't at all expecting a triple album for sure.
WestboundSign! Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 What a great read! I personally can see them do some shows next year that setlist-wise look like Reading and Leeds. Generally, it would be hard for me to believe they're already disappearing from public again after the Australian dates. Even though they said they'd be cutting back a little, it would be massive if they left out on so many countries they would have usually visited and also on so many concerts they played festivals instead. I'm really curious to see what and how much we'll hear from them next year. As long as we get a bit more tour, doesn't matter under which name or for which purpose, I'll be happy. Talking about a new album, I totally agree on the years mentioned. 2016 seems pretty reasonable and even if it'll be later than that, I'm pretty sure that their comeback will be massive. A lot of people have already mentioned enough reasons for that.
Overjoyyed Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I would die in happy bliss if I got to hear the whole of dookie followed by the whole of American idiot in one gig!! I wouldn't care if they didn't sing even one lyric from another album.
