harry88788 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Today I came to the realization of how much I relate to both of the Gloria songs of 21CBD. I felt like making a thread to share my opinions on the song and to have everyone talk amongst themselves about the songs. To me Little Girl is about her childhood, and when it all starts to fall apart. The other song alludes to her having a troubled childhood. This song really sets a strong base for the other Gloria to be based off of. It builds Gloria as a character and shows you where she comes from and why she acts the way she does. Viva la Gloria is my personal favorite of the two, and right now of all time. This song starts as a song or poem from Christian to Gloria. He says that eternal youth is a lie and you have to grow up to a certain degree. The he says hold on "we're gonna start a war, your slogans a gun for hire it's what we've waited for" This is saying the she is going to stand up and fight for all of the people like her. That she is what we've all been waiting for, a warrior. Then it breaks out into a fast paced rock song, sort of a battle cry, saying to always get back up, weather the storm, don't put away your burning light, don't look back on the bad times when "when your banners were burning down". This portrays her as a fighter for all the people like her trying to find themselves in this world.
Sarcasm Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I don't know which one I like the most, it's a hard choice, really.I'm gonna go with Little Girl, though. I like the music in that one a little better, even though the Chorus on the other one is pure gold.
Lone Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I love ¡Viva la Gloria! and always enjoyed it more over the other one. My favorite part of the song will always be the piano intro because it acts like the calm before the storm that is Gloria.
Clockwise Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 VIVA FO SHO, little girl is awesome, but the first is really just a fucking anthem
Virtue Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 In terms of meaningful..I love both..but the first really introduces us to Gloria...Lyrically I just love Viva La Gloria... "You found a home in all your scars and ammunition" Has got to be my favorite line from the song. Musically though..I can't pick..I mean have yall ever heard both songs acapella? Holy Shit.
GenesisJames Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I just love "Little Girl" just too much. The lyrics are great, and the music is just wierd and awesome, and reminds me of "Misery" a lot, which is great.

I love that line I meant to come back to it but I forgot. Its just packed with so much emotion.
belinda jane Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 this is SUCH a tough decision. i really love the lyrics more in viva la gloria, however i love little girl musically. little girl is just so upbeat and i can imagine it would be heaps of fun to play, but i'm more attached to viva la gloria lyrically. that didn't answer the question, but i just really can't decide
Otis Big Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Murder City is Gloria's view of Christian at that point of the album and Little Girl is Christian's view of Gloria at that point of the album. "Christian's crying in the bathroom And I just wanna bum a cigarette"
ANJI Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Voted for Little Girl. I find it more catchy and love the tune for it
BJA TC MD Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 ¿Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl) for me. Musically, I prefer the sound of that song, especially that piano part.
Overjoyyed Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I love both of these songs. I used to hate the opening of little girl. But now I think it hits the spot- it's a very real song and it speaks to me. "Inside your restless soul your heart is dying" - who hasn't felt like they were stuck in some place some sort of a rut (whether its school or a dead end job or stuck in the cycle of depression) and feeling restless to get the fuck out and run away but instead you're just stuck and feel like your spark your passion is dying. Genius - excuse me while I cry this out . Then there is the other Viva la Gloria.. That song just makes me Happy!!! If I'm ever down that song is the best to just sing out loud Gloria Viva la Gloria!!!!
Guest Trotsky Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 They are both amazing songs, but my vote goes to Viva La Gloria (Little Girl).
burnout409 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Viva La Gloria, But both are awesome i just prefer it a little more! Also votes on this are tied! 15 votes each!
Fish Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I like Viva la Gloria because the lyrics to me are more relatable than those in Little Girl. In fact, I can interchange "Gloria" with the name of the girl I like and sing it as if I was actually talking to her as the narrator. "Hey Kara Lynn, are you standing close to the edge?"
Dirty Rotten Bastard Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 They are both among my favourite Green Day songs. Right now I'd probably say little girl, although they're both amazing musically and lyrically.
JellyTime Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I voted for Viva La Gloria, because of this piano Whenever I hear it, I always think about Billie's and Rocky's version
Bastard of 1967 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Today I came to the realization of how much I relate to both of the Gloria songs of 21CBD. This portrays her as a fighter for all the people like her trying to find themselves in this world. In iVLG!, Christian puts Gloria up on her pedestal, in Little Girl, she falls off of it. She can't be the rallying cry, the torch-bearer, that's going to fix the rest of the world -- she's hasn't fixed what's going on in between her two ears yet, and the truth is she's "just a junkie preaching to the choir." Anyway, I voted for Little Girl over "Exclamation Gloria" (LOVE that, whoever came up with it by the way). Blazingly different from the more generic three-chord punk riff that Green Day has been mostly leaving behind since breaking out in the 90's, with lyrics and an arrangement originally hinted at in Warning!, and that could easily have come straight out of a Broadway musical -- and to that end I'm actually surprised it didn't show up in AIOB. Sorry it's been so long since last post on the forum, been *buried* with work for the last few months.
Spike Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I can relate to VLG a lot more lyrically, despite the odd crap line it's awesome. But musically, Little Girl is far, far better. VLG is just a poor man's Letterbomb in that respect.
itz_brittany87 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I really like them both but I have to with VLG because of the piano intro and first verse just hits me in the chest. Hey, Gloria are you standing close to the edge? / Look out to the setting sun, the brink of your vision/ eternal youth is a landscape of a lie and so on its beautiful! I love the way he sings it here. http://youtu.be/lLKMzmjpZfg
naliuj Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Hmm... I like the both but I like Viva La Gloria a little better than Little Girl. As for relating to the lyrics, I don't at all.
Bastard of 1969 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I picked Little Girl one, because it's just so.... I don't know how to explain this.
stories and songs Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 They're both incredible songs. That said, Little Girl is quite possibly my favorite Green Day song of all time, so my choice was a no brainer.
