peppermint butler Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 After my joke thread aka the trilogy and american idiot connections it got my thinking. Why does the trilogy get so much crap. I love all three albums. I think it's a solid 37 track adventure. Leave your opinions why people hate it. I love it
Ham Pascale Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Because someone's still expecting punk sound from Green Day.
Todd Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 They're great albums. But not award-winning quadruple platinum money makers
peppermint butler Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 They're great albums. But not award-winning quadruple platinum money makersBecause someone's still expecting punk sound from Green Day. I see both your points. They are very good ones too. Ido think people are wanting aggressive punk music. The reality is that they're in there 40's. at least they make 37 quality songs. They all use there own talent to make this music. Unlike modern pop artist. I like this type of pop punk and wish people could accept this direction there going
peppermint butler Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 i think they're great albums and i still listen to them constantly. as a whole, one of my favorite things gd have ever done. although it's not necessarily a bad thing, the trilogy still isn't even remotely in the realm of american idiot and 21st century breakdown. people aren't going to be satisfied no matter what they do, it doesn't matter if they go back to making straight pop punk or start doing rock operas again. as long as they're doing what THEY want to do then i'm happy I love your opinion and think that's true
TeaWithTheHatter Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I love all three albums. But, as a whole, I haven't found a Green Day song I don't like. I have all their albums (even side projects) and I love the sounds that vary from album to album. The trilogy is my favorite right now, until their next album - or albums, whatever they may decide - because I change with them. That's what I do. You never know what the guys are going to do next and that's what I like! It keeps you guessing instead of predicting their downfalls or uprisings like your typical celebrity.

I think you are very right. I am so happy that so many smart people come on this thread. It's nice to here these opinions. This is what a civilized thread should be like.

This is what a civilized thread should be like. I agree with you but unfortunately we can't always have that which is sad. But, the bad and good balance out each other so it's not too bad. You just have to know where to look when it comes to GDC'ers like you find here.

Totally butchered the spelling on Christie. Oh well. Anyway
gdpony Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Because they're not masterpieces. I still do not understand why they put out so much material that isn't even high quality. Don't get me wrong, I love the trilogy, but these three albums were more fan oriented.
TeaWithTheHatter Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Well, one place where you can't find GDC'ers like the ones on this thread is the Unpopular Green Day Opinions thread. It'll just bring you down. I don't set foot in that thread. But, that's my choice. I'm Moshie by the way.

TeaWithTheHatter Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I've seen that thread. It's like a mosh pit. Lol You can certainly call it that. I couldn't agree more. A simple breath could get you verbally slaughtered in that thread which is why I keep my distance. The best threads to visit are in the 'Brink of your Vision' Forum, Advice Forum, etc.
Clean Cut Asshole Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 It's just not really my thing. Green Day don't have to make music that I like, they should just keep doing what they want, but I don't have to like it. I wouldn't say they're the worst albums ever made, but they definitely are by far my least favorite GD albums. The songwriting's cheesy at times, but then at other times certain songs from it can be strong lyrical efforts. But I just don't like.
peppermint butler Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 Yea. I started a joke thread about fake connections between American idiot and the trilogy. You can certainly call it that. I couldn't agree more. A simple breath could get you verbally slaughtered in that thread which is why I keep my distance. Spike Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 They're too patchy. Just like with 21st Century Breakdown, it has some great songs but the quality control just isn't there. Some of Green Day's best ever songs are on the trilogy, but I've barely listened to the second half of Uno or any of Dos since first listening. I'd go as far to say Dos is the worst Green Day album ever. On the flipside, Tre is one of the best. But one album of the best 12-15 songs would have been far preferable to me.

I consider dos a fbht album. Just a different name on the coverThey're great albums yes they are
TeaWithTheHatter Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Yea. I started a joke thread about fake connections between American idiot and the trilogy. I read it. It was creative and I can see how some people might think that if they listen but I knew they weren't really true connections.
peppermint butler Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 I read it. It was creative and I can see how some people might think that if they listen but I knew they weren't really true connections. It's amazing how upset some people were. After I made the thread i actually considered taking it a step farther by making a playlist of the songs.
Clean Cut Asshole Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I do agree though, Dos probably shoulda been a FHT album.
TeaWithTheHatter Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 It's amazing how upset some people were. After I made the thread i actually considered taking it a step farther by making a playlist of the songs. That would have stirred up a lot more people. I guess they didn't understand it was a joke and was meant to be taken differently then what they thought. In my case, it made me think (having the over active imagination I do) and I could see from what you were setting up.
peppermint butler Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 I mean now i consider it being a somewhat good plot line. The real punch line was fuck time tho. That would have stirred up a lot more people. I guess they didn't understand it was a joke and was meant to be taken differently then what they thought. In my case, it made me think (having the over active imagination I do) and I could see from what you were setting up.
Clean Cut Asshole Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 In response to the above comments, not alot of people understand jokes anymore. People take things way too seriously alot of the time.
porksoda Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 They're great albums but they leave me wanting one cohesive record instead of 3. I just think things would have been a lot different that way.
