Todd
it's still a "fuck you" to whoever it was aimed at Not the way I connect to Jackass, I connect that song to someone I know, but of course the meanings are different for everyone, and that's what makes music so personal
TeaWithTheHatter
It's creative to think about it but I don't believe so, darling. Sorry.
AlissaGoesRAWR
I thought this thread was going to be about things like the "whatshisface" reference. Disappointing. Those are interesting, as I believe there are others, I just can't think of examples at the moment! (Not just to AI, but other albums.) But yeah, OP doesn't make sense. Ham Pascale
Only connection is - AI and Trilogy are killer albums. As well as other Green Day albums.

boringdays
Dude seriously, they're written by the same guy, obviously there's going to be similarities. But if you're trying to act like the trilogy was seriously written from the perspective of JOS you're nuts. Ok but seriously, you think Amy would be a song for Whatshername, but the obvious Amanda isn't?
SmoothedOut
Yes. There is a connection. Let's just say all the records were made by the same band.
musso_kn
It's not creative. Literally anyone could conjure up such a 'connection' between any two Green Day album. Besides, the band very clearly stated that the Trilogy was supposed to be a break from making rock operas and concept albums.
Mato
Longview - JoS is bored and masturbation lost its fun Geek Stink Breath - JoS i doing drugs The One I Want - JoS expressing his love to Whatshername King For A Day - JoS starts losing it and dresses up as a woman Panic Song - JoS is having a panic attack and on and on.. theviridiansea
I don't think we should mock the OP... Maybe the trilogy wasn't meant to have connections, but it's interesting to think of it as a continuation of JOS and Whatsername (or even Christian and Gloria!). That's the cool thing about music, is how different people can perceive it.

Spoopy Doo
You could literally pick out any song and explain it in such a way it relates to American Idiot. Sometimes it's best to just view different projects as...different projects. 16 - Jesus 20 years after American Idiot
