Dalya Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Green Day win court case over Scream Icon artwork rights A US appeals court has ruled against a street artist who sued Green Day for using his work without permission. The band's adaptation of Dereck Seltzer's Scream Icon was found to be "transformative and not overly commercial", opening the door for more musical stage shows to incorporate existing artworks. That's pretty interesting news. Go here to read the rest of the article.

tamsin Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 The comments on the article made me laugh 'Will the makers of Eastenders also be attempting to sue the band for appropriating images without permission, in this case the bass player's unauthorised use of Shirley Carter's head? I've always thought Mike looked like her long lost twin!
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Huh...yeah I figured this was sorted yonks ago...a bit asshole-ish of Green Day it must be said to offer the guy tickets to a gig as a settlement...like really?! Then they expect him to cover their costs which were nothing in the scheme of things...I mean he kind of had a right to be a little pissed that they used his work so there was no need for them to be like that (and by offering the ridiculous settlement beforehand maybe they even thought they may lose?). Anyway it was interesting. Thanks for posting
