Ross_19 Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Hey all! I'm quite new to GDC (Only been here about a month) and just thought I'd post my first thread. I apologize if this topic has been discussed before. I've been wondering to myself lately about Green Day's next studio album, since Billie Joe had that stint in rehab, where I'm sure he'd have written. And since Green Day had (I think, I heard) 70 or so songs for the trilogy? Could be more/less but it's something around that. I'vejust been thinking when-abouts Green Day's next album will be. And what style it will be, have you guys any thoughts and hopes for this? I'm interested to know what you think and hope about Green Day's next studio album, around when, in your opinion, it will be released and what style it will be. Thanks
Amanda Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 There won't be another studio album. Billie Joe is joining One Direction next month, and Mike is going to play bass for Psi.Tre and Ringo Starr are apparently working on an album together, with a possible title of "Peace and Love (Just Don't Ask For a Fucking Autograph, Okay?)"
Fish Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I'm guessing the next album will come out in 2015 judging by the spacing between their most recent albums. It's been in the 3-5 year range since Warning. What would I like to hear on the next album? Well first, nothing like Nightlife. If they put out another song like that I'll cry for days without stopping. I don't need a rock opera or anything. Would like a lot of rock out songs too. Stuff like Hitchin A Ride, Know Your Enemy, Holiday, or Longview in an entire album would be a lot of fun. There won't be another studio album. Tre and Ringo Starr are apparently working on an album together, with a possible title of "Peace and Love (Just Don't Ask For a Fucking Autograph, Okay?)" .....And Jason White will become the lead guitarist for Carly Rae Jepsen.
Misterglasshalfempty Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I think we've had similar threads before, but it's an interesting topic. And it's all just speculation for the sake of speculation, so I hope this stays open. Personally I would hope for something a little bit more "serious" and complex, really the opposite of the trilogy. The trilogy was good, but it gets old really quick, at least to me. I'm hoping to hear songs with a more complex structure, like AI, and some lyrics about more serious topics. It doesn't have to be political, just a little deeper than most of the trilogy. I actually fell like I'm ready for a bit darker album. I'm sure we will hear some songs about his experiences during rehab, but I don't think it will dominate his songwriting.
ThranaM Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Well.. Billie Joe said the next album wasn't going to be so full of techonolgy, and more straight forward with the instruments
WhiteTim Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 2015-2016 And I hope for more Nightlife/I Run NY/Brutal Love tracks (seriously)
localinsomniac Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I just hope they keep making music. It almost doesn't matter to me what it sounds like; as long as they love doing it, I want them to keep doing it.
Duhhan1023 Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I'd like them to produce a proper rock album ( not pop punk and stuff like that) kinda like the white stripes and the black keys with heavy riffs rather than chords
beejeezee Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Can we at least wait for this fucking tour to end before we start talking about the next album?
Virtue Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Can we at least wait for this fucking tour to end before we start talking about the next album? I think it's fine..I mean people were talking about the "New" album during the "Breakdown Tour" and "American Idiot Tour" so why not?
! Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Make it Nimrod-esque. That's their last album that I truly enjoy from beginning to end
Virtue Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I personally hope "Dreamcatcher" and "Oh Girl" make it on there. I was really hoping "Dreamcatcher" would be on Uno as it had read in a sneak peak, but nah.
Cath Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 i don't mind what the next album will sound like because no matter what it's always a surprise.
Jon Herroon Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I could see them collecting all the written and recorded songs that haven't been released yet and putting it out as a "new" album. No tour for it or anything, just something that's new to the fans. I also am hoping for a second shenanigans album.
Ross_19 Posted June 28, 2013 Author Posted June 28, 2013 Well.. Billie Joe said the next album wasn't going to be so full of techonolgy, and more straight forward with the instruments When did he say that?
ThranaM Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 When did he say that? I think it says so in the article in Rolling Stone or something
WhiteTim Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 When did he say that? He said hed like to do a live in studio like exile on main street but then again hes been saying he wants to record that way since 21st century breakdown...
inthehallwaynow Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 something along the genre of the wiggles perhaps? a fruit salad cover would be glorious
beejeezee Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I think it's fine..I mean people were talking about the "New" album during the "Breakdown Tour" and "American Idiot Tour" so why not? It pisses me off, we just got three god damn new albums can't we be satisfied for at least the length of the tour? For god's sakes we almost lost out frontman during the making of these albums! I don't want to even think about them going back in the studio for a long while.
That Dude Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Something just completely wild and crazy and different, with an extremely thick booklet of liner notes, all lyrics included. An opening track by tre cool, but not a joke-song. Something dark and serious, hard rocking. Then the second song is a tried and true Green Day sound, but with Mike singing lead. Acoustic songs by Billie, all emotional and about being rehabilitated - maybe two of them in a row, then we get a huge epic rocker with Billie singing lead. Depression Times (I love this song, why was it never promoted?!!!!!) (featuring Jesse Mallin and Tim Armstrong) Nightlife II: B**ch is Going Down (with a circus type sound) (featuring Skinhead Rob) Hybrid Moments Then an epic, 25 minutes song with multiple parts. all out insanity covering every thing from country, rock, rap, disco, death metal, jazz, and ending with a drum solo from hell with Billie and Tre both playing. next song would be completely new sound. Album closer is short, fast down and dirty punk song, like rancid. That would an amazing album.
Raven93 Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Start working on the new album in 2014 .... Out by 2015 Expect more nightlife/kill the dj ...... stuff

No ones saying they aren't satisfied, yeah we got 37 songs, and that is brilliant, I personally thought the trilogy was awesome. But this is just a discussion? No ones saying they want the "99 Revolutions Tour" to be done and dusted so Green Day can move on to record another album, it's just a discussion. But I'll at least say thanks for your point of view
