Sarcasm Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I think Dookie and AI being released 10 years apart was a happy coincidence, but maybe thats just me. I wouldn't mind new music in 2014.
Jamie Price Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 I think Dookie and AI being released 10 years apart was a happy coincidence, but maybe thats just me. I wouldn't mind new music in 2014. I see what you're saying. And I did say myself it was a huge coincidence. My point is this basically: 'I just seem to have this longing for something special to come from them in their next album. Be that next year or whenever.'
alienlifeform Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 well maybe.. i'm having the feeling that Reading and Leeds festivals will be the end of this tour... so they will prepare something for a huge celebration tour next year, maybe with a new album as well
Jamie Price Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 okay so I over emphasized the years ending with 4 bit. changed the title and made the main point of the topic more obvious.
Caractériel Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I think it will be at least another 2 years, possibly longer, before we get another album. I don't expect them to release anything on the same level as American Idiot or Dookie any time soon. So many things have to fall into place for an epic album to happen, if it does, then it will come completely out of nowhere when we least expect it.
Jamie Price Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 Personally I'm hoping for a bounce-back from the commercial failure of the trilogy similar to what happened after Warning flopped. A tight, powerful album. Doesn't need to be political or anything like that of course, doesn't even need to be as mind-blowing as AI, just very well-done and well-marketed. I couldn't agree more. As I said, I couldn't put down into words exactly what my feelings are but you've sort of just written down what I wanted to say in two sentences. i'd much rather see them do another year of touring than another new album and i imagine that's probably what they'll do. i don't see them ever releasing anything that's as huge as dookie or american idiot no matter when it comes out, and that's okay. two albums that completely defined two different generations is more than enough for any band to be proud of. I completely agree dude especially with that last point. I'd also much rather them do a tour right now, so I can see them live! Hopefully going to reading fest. Definitely going when they do a full UK tour.
PanicAttack! Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I've always seen Dookie and American Idiot as the albums that established the band and boosted their fanbase, not as strictly superior albums. When you already have become a fan it seems to me at least that these albums doesn't matter as much. Of course quality albums still matter, but none of us are dependent on another commercial success to keep happy with the band. Look at the trilogy, it is almost completely forgotten by the world, if it was even noticed to begin with, but with the fans it is appreciated for what it is. I read in a recent article that "Green Day could leave for 5 years, and come back and do this (playing huge stadiums) again at once", and that's it, they don't need to fuel their fire (just a little bit maybe) cause they have enough followers to keep a career going for as long as they want to, they don't have to make hit albums. Personally I think that the evolution of Green Day into a less commercial band, could mean more intimate shows with more variable setlists, and perhaps even more music.
lizziebix Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Since the user changed the title and OP, I'll close this since the comments don't relate to anything anymore.
