stuart_and_the_ave Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Scans from Rock Sound They hardly mention the Kaiser Chiefs either, just half a sentence!
HolyHandGrenade Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 "WEEEEEY OOOOOOH" Excuse me Rock Sound, it's "HEEEEY-OOOOOOH"
Jon Benjamin Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 "WEEEEEY OOOOOOH" Excuse me Kerrang, it's "HEEEEY-OOOOOOH"I see "hey ho" and "ey oh" a lot and it bothers me.
HolyHandGrenade Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Everybody WEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYY- OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHEEEEEEY OOOOOAAAAATS!
DorsetGirl Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Thanks for the scans! But for fuck's sake, who exactly has Alex Gaskarth been shagging to get all these mags to write them up as if they were the number two act rather than just the opener? OK, I didn't dislike them and they did a perfectly adequate job, but what is it with everybody doing down or even totally ignoring Kaiser Chiefs? Where I was standing - general seating, near the front on Mike's side - everyone was enjoying Kaiser Chiefs, bouncing about and singing along very happily indeed. By the end of their set, I genuinely felt I'd had my money's worth for my ticket already - I thought they did a great job. (To be fair, they were my favourite band for several years before I discovered Green Day so I was thrilled when I saw they were to be on the bill). I have no idea how bands go about choosing support acts, but isn't it kind of insulting to Green Day's judgement to simply ignore the people they presumably chose to go on before them?

I was actually wondering the same thing. In the scans they something about people really enjoying All Time Low and the Kaiser Chiefs receiving a much more tepid reaction. From where I was standing (right in the middle of the crowd, sort of middle front) nobody seemed that into All Time Low AT ALL except for maybe a couple of songs. Meanwhile, the whole crowd went crazy for the Kaiser Chiefs. They did a fantastic job. I'm with you, by the end of their set I already felt satisfied. Ricky Wilson definitely has the power as an entertainer to hold a crowd that size, something I can't say for Alex Gaskarth.
Caractériel Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I have no idea how bands go about choosing support acts, but isn't it kind of insulting to Green Day's judgement to simply ignore the people they presumably chose to go on before them? I'm not 100% sure that Green Day fully decide who supports them. That kind of thing is usually down to the promoters. They might have some sway I guess, but it usually comes down to who's available at the time, and who the promoters thing will appeal to that kind of audience. I think the ATL love just comes from pure bias on the part of Rock Sound. They seem to have a hard on for them, that's pretty clear. I've seen both Kaiser Chiefs and ATL live in the past, and the Kaisers are a really good live band, even though I don't really listen to them. ATL are just another teeny wannabe pop punk band that the mainstream magazines give way too much attention to.
