Robbie Random Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Hi all, Apologies if this is somewhere else on the boards but once again I used the search and it came up with nothing. I'm trying to find out more about the black Telecaster Billie Joe has been using at concerts over the last few years. It's clearly not a standard Tele so i'm after what range its from etc... Not the greatest pic, but this is one I took at Emirates on June 1st :-) Any help would, as always, be greatly appreciated :-) Rob
MuricanIDIOT Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Fast forward to 5:38 Its Blues back up but at most shows he gives it away,he has a bunch of them
idc Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Fast forward to 5:38 Its Blues back up but at most shows he gives it away,he has a bunch of them they don't actually give this one away. people recieve this one on stage, but get handed out another guitar afterwards. an all black epiphone les paul junior with signatures from the band.
Robbie Random Posted June 16, 2013 Author Posted June 16, 2013 Thanks for the video, i'm not gonna fast forward to 5:38 though, i'm gonna watch the whole thing :-)

Robbie Random Posted June 16, 2013 Author Posted June 16, 2013 So it's a standard Tele with a different pick guard on it?

Robbie Random Posted June 16, 2013 Author Posted June 16, 2013 I will be in bed in an hour I imagine, cos it's 2am here, but look forward to anything you can provide, cheers mate
WhiteTim Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I will be in bed in an hour I imagine, cos it's 2am here, but look forward to anything you can provide, cheers mate Off hand it looks like the body style of the Tele Deluxe
PanicAttack! Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I could be wrong cause I haven't looked into it closely, but to me it seems that this is the - no disrespect to the brand itself - "disposable" guitar as well as stand-in for blue. He doesn't give it away every time someone has played it, but every so often he does, and as I've seen from a rig rundown there is only one of them in Billie's stand at a time, and whenever he does give it away I don't see him running out to get yet another copy of it to spare any original tele he might keep to himself; which all leads me to believing that it's not a valuable guitar to Billie Joe, not affection-wise and probably not economically either. It's a litter of black telecasters, probably tweaked a little bit to fit the band's sound, and they are meant to be given away. On a side note, telecasters are so damn ugly!

No Svan right the person doesnt get the tele They get a Epi LP Jr that the band signs at the end of the show Ive seen 3 of them on ebay all different sellers and locations with the same story And I agree Teles arent good looking but the sound is great

On a side note, telecasters are so damn ugly! as i said before: he does give this one away, but the people who get it recieve a different guitar backstage. (i know four people so far and they all got this one instead the one billie handed them out on stage, the telecaster.) this is a picture of my friend Christopher. i don't even know if he's on here, but he posted it on fb and everywhere so I hope it's okay if i put it on here. He got on stage to play the guitar at Rock im Park last saturday, got the telecaster on stage but the guitartech handed him this guitar out instead and kept the fender telecaster
Iain Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 The first dude could at least not chew gum while talking; fuck me that's annoying. The video though, is pretty cool, seeing their setups and guitars they use.
Liam Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 as i said before: he does give this one away, but the people who get it recieve a different guitar backstage. Chris_Kr93s Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Its a Fender Blackout Telecaster modded by Hans (Billie´s guitar tech). Different pickguard and an Seymour Duncan SH-4 pickup installed. Original Telecaster: Seymour Duncan SH-4: Sometimes the guys who played guitar on stage get the real Telecaster they played, not the Epi!
billiejoephil Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Actually it is not a Telecaster, but more of an Esquire, since the guitar only has a bridge pickup. Sorry for the geek talk.
idc Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Receiving that one would be just as good anyway. Absolutely true!
WhiteTim Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Actually it is not a Telecaster, but more of an Esquire, since the guitar only has a bridge pickup. Sorry for the geek talk. It is a Telecaster but it's been modded by Billie's guitar tech Otherwise the neck wouldn't say Fender Telecaster
DookieBoy21 Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I will be in bed in an hour I imagine, cos it's 2am here, but look forward to anything you can provide, cheers mate The guitar buddy said it a blackout tele with a custom pickguard From what I saw it costs something like $600 American

WhiteTim Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Which neck? Do you have a pic of this? Watch the gig breakdown video Alao i was standing literally 3 feet from Billie's guitar rack at SXSW so i got a close look at em with my own eyes
