Christian music site posted this today.

"Green Day is back in the studio working on new music and is back touring again, it just doesn't seem that there is the same interest for the band.

Of course they will always have a strong cult following of fans, it just might be on a small scale than the massive success they had for the last several years."

Not every band can be top dogs at all times. They'll have plenty of chances to make a commercial comeback, if that matters to them, or it may happen in the future even if it doesn't, but I think we can all agree that the trilogy was more or less a flop.

I think they may not know for sure if they're "back in the studio"; it's too soon for that even when the band writes music all the time.

And yes, maybe they lost some popularity after what happened, but is really that important? And is really that important to Green Day? In this article says "Of course they will always have a strong cult following of fans" and I think that's what matters.

To me ¡UNO!, ¡DOS! & ¡TRÉ! wasn't a dissapointment... but I'm a fan :) and not the only one ;)

Commercially yes, but not creatively.

So wait.... they're actually back in the studio?

Btw, yes they have lost their popularity but who gives a fuck?

I think what the bottom line is that Green Day loves making music, it's what they do and what they will continue to do, and popularity, while a great thing, isn't their driving force.

And personally, I don't think the trilogy was a disappointment, but to each their own.

There's no question that they have lost their popularity.

But no one can ever take away all the success they achieved from them. Albums like Dookie and American Idiot are still relevant to many people (other than fans) today. I see that as the best kind of success.

Well, they didn't disappoint me with the trilogy, i love it, i think the only worst part was the lack of promotion, but that was it

Suggestion. Thread title could be shortened to 'Green Day Popularity' ??

Green Day had a hard few years popularity-wise after Warning flopped. Then they came back and kicked everyone's asses with American Idiot, so I wouldn't be too hasty to nail the coffin closed just because the Trilogy was a commercial failure.

Good Riddance single-handedly kept them in the public eye

do you think they really are in studios right now? because they're touring and will be touring for the next months so i doubt.

and i don't give a damn about their popularity, they just gave us 3 albums i couldn't ask for more.

I don't know about you, but I'm not disappointed at all. The reason for not as high numbers is simply because of there being 3 albums released in rapid succession in stead of 1 or 1 triple album.

iHeart was also a hiccup that scared some people I guess, and it also led to canceled shows, TV appearances and general advertisement.

But all in all, I'm not disappointed at all.

My guess is it came from when Billie posted a few pictures on instragram when he was remixing the some guitar tracks. They've obviously taken that as "recording a new album" and voila!

I highly doubt they're actually recording a new album. If they're doing anything besides touring, they're demoing songs. 'Cuz I remember during the 21CB tour they did demo some new songs, so that's the most likely thing. I must admit, I was pretty dissapointed with the trilogy, but I don't think Green Day honestly care. Their next album will probably be pretty popular, it'll be like what happened with Warning and American Idiot.

Yes, they've lost the popularity the could have got with the correct releasing of ¡DOS! and ¡TRÉ! but the article says it, they have a huge community of fans, only here on GDC we have 53,000 fans that is enough to fill a whole arena.

Less than 100 and and those that have been inactive for 5+ months

IDK... although we're both relatively new to GDC, I think that their are a bunch of previously active members who were well know, contributed a lot, and made friends with many members who just stopped coming after a while. Check out the members list by most posts to see what I mean

So let's go only with more than 500 posts or active more than 5 months

The trilogy FAR from disappointed me. I agree with some of the posts about the promotional side of things, though - that made me sad.

I think the whole thing deserved much more recognition than it received, but with everything that was happening with Billie I guess it was pretty hard :(

The trilogy was a flop but not because the music is bad but because of the lack of promotion

Emirates - 60,000 people and broke an attendance record; Rock im Park - 75,000 people; Rock am Ring - 85,000 people. I think that's a clear indication of their current popularity, at least in Europe, just saying. That's playing to over 220,000 people in three dates alone.
