MaraGreenDay Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 From Idiot Nation: New contest alert! Emily's Army releases their second album Lost at 17 on Rise Records today. Emily's Army is comprised of brothers Cole and Max Becker (who split vocal duties and play guitar and bass, respectively), guitarist Travis Neumann and drummer Joey Armstrong (son of Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, who also produced the LP). They showcase their knack for ragged So Cal pop-punk with a bleeding heart and a healthy sense of humor. Tracks like "Part Time Bum" and "Gubermensch" are rollicking, infectious kiss-offs, while "On the Roof," "If Our Music Plays Again" and the blistering closer "Lost at 17" exude just the right amount of earnest preciousness needed for adolescent anthems. This week we're giving away 5 copies of the album exclusively to members of Green Day's Idiot Nation. Winners will be chosen Friday, June 14th. Only one entry per person will be qualified. Good luck! Don't want to wait to hear the new music? Download the new album by Emily's Army on iTunes now. Or order at Rise Records: HERE Open to all Idiot Nation members! Login to Idiot Nation to enter: HERE
Hermione Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 If I'm honest I find this a bit lame. Cool that people can win the album if they want it, and it makes sense that it would be mentioned by Green Day sites since Billie produced the album. But having a band who isn't Green Day's album given away as a prize on a Green Day fan site goes a bit too far towards riding on Green Day's back for my taste (I can't imagine they'd do the same for any other band with an album produced by Billie that doesn't have his child in it). I kind of liked how they mostly steered clear of doing that in the past.

I do see what your saying, But Tbh most green day fans will support Emilys army due to Joey being in it . and Its just an extra Free contest that anyone can enter, so i think its a good idea - were getting alot of contests recently so im just chuffed to be a part of the Idiot Nation
iltrenta Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Well, if I were a member of the Idiot Nation I wouldn't like to have the album of a random band as a prize for a contest, isn't the reason people pay 20$ having something a Green Day fan would like to have?

I kind of liked how they mostly steered clear of doing that in the past. I remember in some interview, Billie was asked if he'd helped his kids in the music business. He made a joke and said that he'd make them struggle like he had. But you could see in his eyes that he wasn't being serious. So, I think it's just that. A dad helping his kid when/where he can. By saying they steered clear of doing that in the past, well, that's true, but the kids were younger then and weren't in need of dad's connections. Now they do and he can, so it happened. To me, Emily's Army, is as big as they are and are getting all the great gigs because of Billie's contacts in the music business. And this is just another one of his connections to help his son do something they both love.
Lauren Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 I'm totally fine with them using their connections to their advantage (who wouldn't?), but that means people need to stop acting like babies when someone compares them with Green Day or says they wouldn't be where they were if it wasn't for the connection (because it's true). If I get a job because I know someone, well good for me. Connections mean everything. This contest is kind of lame, though. They're all like "Oh, good luck on winning a copy of a local band's CD that's available for streaming for free!"
The Grohl Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 I personally won't enter because I don't care for Emily's Army, but I feel that a lot of people will just because it's semi Green Day related.
Todd Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 What the fuck are they giving away? CD, Vinyl, Download? Idiotnation has really bad communication. Am I banned from contests for not sending Cuatro back or not? Because I asked multiple people at multiple places where to send it to, and no one ever got back to me. So that'd be totally unfair if I'm banned for no one telling me what the fuck to do

I really hate it when they give a date when the contest will be over and everyone is sitting here waiting for the winners to be announced and they don't say anything even if it takes all damn day. An update or something would be nice.

People were supposed to return the promotional copies of Cuatro the day after they received them for their parties or else they'd be DQ'd from all future contests. However, I received mine an entire day late, so I had no cuatro for the party that I had planned, and it came with no instructions for return or anything. So I had no idea wtf to do. I asked here, email, idiotclub forum, no replies at all

Todd Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 i wannnnt Nope. I sent a few scans into Greendaydiscography.com, he really needs to update the site lol! Can't wait, that's the best site ever.

Hermione Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Well, if I were a member of the Idiot Nation I wouldn't like to have the album of a random band as a prize for a contest, isn't the reason people pay 20$ having something a Green Day fan would like to have? Yeah that's why I find it lame. Billie helping them get gigs and get their name out and giving them help where he can etc is to be expected and there's nothing wrong with it, people help their family and friends in the music industry and everywhere in life. But when Green Day fans are paying for a Green Day fan club to get Green Day related perks, I think using it to promote a band that isn't Green Day is going over the line. Doesn't actually harm IN members since it's just an extra contest for those who want it and they have plenty of other Green Day related contests, just comes across as a bit of a lame way of promoting Emily's Army that's all.
Cori Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 I can see where you guys are coming from in saying this is a little lame, but there are also a good number of Idiot Nation members who are Emily's Army fans as well as Green Day fans who may have no other way to get the album right now. Who knows? It may turn a couple of people who enter the contest for the heck of it into Emily's Army fans. Also, it is, in a way, from a strictly business perspective, somewhat Green Day related. Green Day's lead singer did, after all, produce this album, which means Billie had a certain influence over the music. Just something to think about when saying this is just some band, because it really isn't.

But Billie's produced other band's albums too and I don't think they'd get given away as a prize on a site that people pay to get Green Day stuff on. The reality is it's only being promoted to that extent because it's Billie's son in the band, not because Billie produced it. It's not a huge deal, but I think it slightly crosses the line into lameness because of that.
Todd Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Hey- Billie doesn't run idiotnation. They post shit about PHGP, FRUS,... those aren't Green Day either, and there are plenty of IN members that like/don't like those albums too. Don't get mad at Billie for this

They post shit about PHGP, FRUS,... those aren't Green Day either, and there are plenty of IN members that like/don't like those albums too. Don't get mad at Billie for this I'm not mad lol. And like I said I have no problem with Idiot Nation and other Green Day sites posting about bands/albums that are related to Green Day or their members in some way. But usually if it was a band that doesn't have a member of Green Day in it, who just had their album produced by Billie, they wouldn't give away the album as a prize on a site where people pay to get Green Day stuff. They might mention that the album's out, but they wouldn't go as far as that. I just think they should be careful to keep on the side of having a fair amount of extra promotion from the Green Day connection rather than crossing into the side of it looking like they're exploiting it. Up until now I think they've handled that really well, it'll be a shame if they start pushing it. To be clear I don't think anyone's done anything "wrong", just find it a bit lame as a marketing move.

Heather. They're all like "Oh, good luck on winning a copy of a local band's CD that's available for streaming for free!" This. There just needs to be more consistency/honesty in what they want their relationship with Green Day to be. They can't do interviews bitching about being compared to Green Day and then ignore the fact that this is happening. I don't think they DO bitch about it, they obviously have a healthy perspective on it and Joey has always said things like "We're lucky that we have my dad to work with" etc, but they can't exactly say "We try to ignore all the comparisons, haters are gonna hate" when they benefit *almost exclusively* from Green Day's fame. And like Lauren said, it's totally OKAY to get a job because your dad works at the company, but you have to take ownership of where you come from. To be fair I think EA does the best they can at responding to a situation they probably couldn't avoid. I don't know how they would have managed to keep their Green Day connection a secret, so they did the smart thing and embraced its perks. They're doing everything right, it's actually more annoying on IN's end
Overjoyyed Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Geez it's a free contest.. Idiot club never even had many contests before Idiot Nation came along and people are complaining about the prize that you will win.. Silly.. Plus there is still the warning contest going on. Billie produced it he is part of the band so to me it's Green Day related. It would be the same thing if there was a contest for Much ado about nothing tickets and I am pretty positive not a lot of people would be complaining about that!
