A new subforum? Ahhhh!

This subforum will be dedicated to all Green Day news. Other types of Green Day discussion will remain in the GD Chat subforum.

The main decision for this split was because we now link GDC on GDA, and as a result, we will have more 'news' topics. Rather than fill up one forum with all these things, we'd like to split up the conversations a bit. Consider this the new one-stop shopping for all the latest news direct from other fans.

Also, I have moved the Random News thread here - but please consider making a thread for any new item instead of "Random News". As we now have a dedicated place for it, i think more topics here would be welcome.

To start off I've moved the first 3 pages of news from the GD Chat forum. I will move over a few more, but don't want to fill this place with topics that aren't really being discussed anymore and instead would like to start it off a bit fresh.

Cool! Liking the updates.

From user experience perspective, this should be on top of all forums, rather than a subforum of a forum with an already confusing title.

Hmm, good suggestion. I've done that, and we'll see what others say about it.

Woah. A bit odd that it's now completely separate from GD Chat... not sure I like that.

I'm not sure. I think it does kinda make sense that a forum that will become the most active section be on the top.

While I understand this change (and I really like that GDA is now linked to GDC), I think it's going to be a pain in the ass to maintain. Just saying. :) A lot of news is relevant to things going on in Green Day chat and vice versa.

Edit: what happens to topics like the one for the animated Nuclear Family video? They're technically just chat, but they're news on GDA.

Hmmm. Test run it then. It used to be like this on I'm Not Okay.net and that seemed to work okay.

Yeah, if we feel it's not working we can always go back.

Im not seeing a major difference in the type of topics in Green Day chat and Green Day news. I can see it getting confusing when trying to find a topic and not remembering which forum it was in. But I can see the reason for the change because of the link with GDA. We'll see how it goes, i'm generally opposed to change but get used to it after a while.

Well, the difference is that one of them is actual news items and the other is just conversations about the band/music. Nothing that indicates what Green Day is doing.

People shouldn't worry about where they open a topic. A mod can move it to it's appropriate place if it's not there already.

Yup, this is exactly what I meant.

As I asked before, what happens to topics like the one for the animated Nuclear Family video? They're technically just chat, but they're news on GDA? It can become quite confusing to know where each topic was. Whereas before, you knew that for anything that's trending in Green Day world (whether it's news or interesting chat subjects) you had to be in the Green Day Chat forum.

I'd like to make clear, I'm not necessarily against the change, just pointing out some concerns. :)

My belief is that if it's actual news about the band it should be in GD News. but overtime we'll see how it works out.

I can see the point of that,

but for example, I cant see why the Nightlife music video is "News" and the animated Nuclear Family video is "Chat"

Maybe this is just teething problems, I dont mean to be giving out or anything, just trying to help/understand the layout :)

It was also the fact that news was getting lost in GD Chat. 90% of all front page topics in GD Chat before the split were random chat stuff. This gives all of that stuff a place, but it also helps group and highlight all the news going on.

I can understand that important news stuff was getting lost in with all the other things and I can see how having actual news in one forum is better.

Issues raised and answered. Onwards and upwards :)

Hm, not sure if I like it that it's separate from GD Chat now instead of a subforum in there. Both make sense and like I've said before it's great to have a place dedicated to just the news! :)

Great idea Andres!

This is why I think this is a good idea. However, I do share the concerns about figuring out what is where/what goes where, especially when we have topics that start out as news stories but then turn into discussion (like, say, the Oh Love video  unless you consider something like a music video posting a point of discussion rather than a news item). So, we'll just have to see if the pros outweigh the cons!

When a new thread is added here, will it show up in the Recent Topics list?

I like the idea, but now it'll take me longer to do my morning GDC routine with 5 subforums now

Yeah, it should.

That's exactly what I was thinking

It's not bad, but at the same time...eh, I don't know. Maybe it will just take some getting used to.

Yeah, it'll take a bit

I'm worried chat will decrease, and there won't be as many people posting in there because all they really care about is the news
