Dori_Epiphone Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Do you guys think Green Day should do something like "American Idiot Part 2" where the story goes on?
spark in the night Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I don't think so. St Jimmy died. Tunny is I don't know where, and Whatsername is gone. There shouldn't be an extension to the story. It's fine the way it is.
Cath Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 American Idiot is perfect the way it is. and i don't see any reasons why they would do that. would be weird.
Cob Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 who is tunny? Tunny is a friend of Jesus. He's never specifically mentioned in the songs but he's described in the linear notes of the album. He's also a character in the play, but don't get me started on that.

Cob Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Actually, there already is an American Idiot part deux. It's called 21st Century Breakdown.
Lauren Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 The story is over. J.O.S. is a loser and will never amount to anything. The story would just be him sitting on the couch all day. He already had his chance. He screwed it up. Life sucks.
Gwen Stacy Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Yes! It should be called "American Idiot 2: The Jesus of Suburbia turns 40". It's about his midlife crisis.
Sarcasm Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Doubt it, the story ends with JOS working in an office, forgetting WHN and the underbelly being hopelessly stuck in the same rut that made JOS leave. Yes! It should be called "American Idiot 2: The Jesus of Suburbia turns 40". It's about his midlife crisis."To buy a used Porche. The Epitome of Apathy, Rage and Love. JOS turns 40" I can see it now.
Sarcasm Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Y'all have some negative interpretations of the story. It's a negative story, the only happy things in it is leaving home and taking drugs, and that's the thing he tried to get away from in the first place.

HolyHandGrenade Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 The only way it would work is if the story line was from St. Jimmy's or Whatsername's point of view. It would be interesting to hear their thoughts, coinciding with JoS' thoughts and experiences. Other than that, I'd rather have a good old low-fi 90's GD album to line up with Dookie's 20th

The story is what you want it to be. I always thought that he went home and lived a normal life, but his past lingered. You know, kind of like Billie. I always kind of thought that Rock N' Roll Girlfriend implied that Jesus somehow put together a hit song or something. Guest Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Actually, there already is an American Idiot part deux. It's called 21st Century Breakdown. What Oswald Cobblepot said. Y'all have some negative interpretations of the story. That's because it's a negative story. The narrator christens himself the Jesus of Suburbia, goes to the big city, gets hooked on all kinds of bad shit, renames himself St. Jimmy, falls in love with Whatsername, gets his ass handed to him by her, laments the miserable failure he's become and then heads home with his tail between his legs. There's not a lot happy going on.
Cob Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 No It's not. It's certainly cut from the same cloth, musically and thematically.

Oh, I know, I just meant I'd rather have that than something cleaner or more current.
insomniax Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 AI is perfect as it is and I wouldn't like a part 2. But it doesn't make it less exciting to play around with ideas and possible extensions of the story, alternative happenings and characther developements.

I'd rather save that stuff for the live action AAA movie (please let it be!) On second thought, I'd be too OCD about it
