JckThndrclff Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I surely can't be the only one to have noticed the similarities! First, watch&listen to this brilliant song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpzV_0l5ILI What stood out most to me- Black+white striped top and a black jacket! BJA's been wearing a pretty similar thing lately The chorus guitar riff - cough, Fuck Time?! cough. I'm not saying any of it's been stolen/ripped off/copied, I just think it's pretty cool haha. XX
Guest Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 WHAT HOLY SHIT A SONG BASED OF A CLASSIC BLUES/HARD ROCK RIFF IS THE SAME AS ANOTHER SONG HOLY CRAP! WHAT ARE THE CHANCES?
HolyHandGrenade Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Let's not spam/be dicks, please. For Ceadog, that was actually a pretty decent contribution Not surprised here, they did it before with Sam Cook/Brutal Love

Haha mate, don't take me to be stupid - I understand that, of course classics such as this have an influence. I've just joined these forums and wanted to share something that interests me. Can one not do that without sarcastic criticism? Thanks for the comment anyway

Thanks for the comment anyway I wasn't taking you for stupid, I'm just bad at resisting temptation for sarcasm Honestly, I didn't even look at your join date. Kudos for calling me out on it. Most don't
Tubbie Head Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Hey oh! Welcome to the forum Yeah, my mum has always told me how much Billie looks like Elvis! XD BTW I love this song, always makes me happy... I'm dancing!
Rock_N_Roll_Girlfriend Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 You just hit a sensitive string here because I adore Elvis and I always found similarities with Billie's clothing and some songs but nobody believed me! I think it's great having as inspiration the King of Rock N Rolll and I think a lot of songs in the triligy were inspired by Elvis' music. You know, people keep telling me that Elvis wasn't that good and stuff like that but then I ask them one question : If it wasn't for Elvis, who would have inspired the Beatles to begin? And if the Beatles didn't form who would have inspired the new generations etc. etc.? I'm saying this because I'm sure people will run start to judge if he was good or not, so think about it before you start judging.I'm writting from my cellphone so sorry if some things don't make sence. It's a difficult keyboad, dammit!

Beatles were influenced by the same people Elvis stoled from Elvis never wrote a single song lyric or music wise racist ass Elvis aint the king of rock he's the king of jack shit
Hermione Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 The majority of today's bands (probably all of them in fact) are influenced by classic rock and roll in their music and style, it was the basis for all modern popular music. Cool to see the similarities that carry through the years. With Fuck Time especially I think that was totally deliberate. They went for a really recognizably old retro riff to contrast with the modern explicit lyrics, with very amusing results.
spark in the night Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Mmmmm Billie Joe Presley. Me likey Billie's new stage dance should be a rendition of Jailhouse Rock. I would be FINE with that.
Hermione Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Elvis never wrote a single song lyric or music wise racist ass Elvis aint the king of rock he's the king of jack shit Haha first part's true, can't really call it Elvis's music since he didn't write any of it. His singing, style and live performances were hugely influencial though, there's more to being an artist than just writing the songs.

PanicAttack! Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Classic rock n' roll music work by something called blues harmonics, and one of the characteristics is that it always sounds a little bit like every other rock 'n roll song. Thus Fuck Time sounds a little bit like Jailhouse Rock, and that like Rock 'n Roll by Led Zeppelin, and that like Johnny B Goode, and so on an so on.
WhiteTim Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 there's more to being an artist than just writing the songs. True Call Elvis the king of entertainers not artist those who write the lyrics the music are the artists imo Elvis was the entertainer which he was an influence I won't deny that but he was pretty much just taking what he saw from black musicians
Sanity Loan Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Wow. I never noticed that they are the exact same chorus riffs. Interesting.

I actually think Let Yourself Go has a bit of a Johnny B. Goode thing going on in the guitar solo. It's got a Chuck Berry vibe to it.
HARVESTER Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 "Everybody in the whole cell block was dancin' to the jail house rock" Didn't Billie Joe mention that Elvis was an influence somewhere? CocaColaX Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Well he did record 'Thats All Right' for the itunes pre-order of 21st Century Breakdown, so I guess he is a fan, although Elvis is not one he mentions much (apart from when he talks about his "Fat Elvis" period). I must say I had not noticed any similarities to Jailhouse Rock, but I'm pretty useless at that. Only one downside to this comparison - Elvis died at 42 !!!!!
gnash Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I've always been disappointed nobody's ever mentioned that Fuck Time also shares its tune with the closing credits to Bottom -
the_reject Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Some sweet moves right there! Hard to beat the classics

And 409 in your Coffeemaker had that same thing way before that. It could be influenced by Johnny B. Goode though. Who knows? Who cares?
