Jet Taman Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 The first thing I do when I get to work (Pine Grove Elementary School where I teach 4th grade) is check my school e-mail, then check the GDC. Then I grade papers, then check the GDC. Then I make copies, then check the GDC. Then I teach a lesson or two, then check the GDC. Then I take the kids to gym, then check the GDC. Well, you get the picture, but as of MONDAY, my school system server BLOCKED the GDC because it falls into the category of "Adult Language and Content" I'm so pissed!! I've had no problems for the last 7 years with this and now all of the sudden it gets noticed??? Does anyone know any way to get around that?? I don't want to have to dedicate 100% of my day to my students' education!!!
RedStrokes Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Adult language I would have wanted a teacher like you in 4th grade.
green day is Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 We could always change the domain name and move the server for you.
The Forgotten Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck Oh wait.... sorry.
girly Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 In our school board you can email IT (or whoever is in charge of blocking websites at your board) to unblock specific sites. For example every time I search for "fun math activities" if the url contains the word "game" the site is automatically blocked. I can then email IT and get them to unblock the site so my students and I can use it. Not sure how you can convince them that GDC is educational (if they even ask......so far my requests have always been approved without question). If it helps I quoted BJA during our staff meeting today and it was very relevant Green Day can relate to many topics in education.. I often discuss GD lyrics with my class. Fashion Victim, Minority....very valuable lessons in there
Malleus Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Vtunnel, the site Ceadawg posted, is a good way to get around shitty school systems and for some reason it seems like they never bother to block that site. I think you could also just like add an s after the http in the URL. There's tons of ways to get around school filters, but vtunnel is probably the easiest.
HolyHandGrenade Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I have the same problems with GDC being listed as an online community (i.e. Facebook). I don't want to use a downloadable proxy though. I might check out VTunnel.
Batgirl Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 this makes me think.. what if my teachers are on GDC too ... I can't talk shit about them That sucks, though
BringMoreKnives Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 GDC was recently blocked at my school, too. Have you tried using a proxy? School filters tend to block those. Or at least my school does. I've tried.

gd_lover101 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 nice im in 4th grade and my teacher had dookie when shewas 12 then sold it to her brother for $5.00
Theultimaxgamer Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 My school blocked gdc a week ago within the same category...Now what am i supposed to do in biology?
Ludwig van Beethoven Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Oh my Bach. I know, this sucks! I'm in the same school system as you, but a student (Dulaney). I usually tend to finish assignments early, then come on GDA/GDC. Our teachers don't mind. I was in the lab this week, and was so annoyed when I couldn't get on. However, don't you teachers have a passcode that can get you pass anything, not only teacher approved sites? BTW- It is so awesome to know that there's a teacher around who likes GD. Mine don't, but probably learned a thing or two with all the GD related projects I turned in.

Her last name is Plunkett. But yeah, no, I was logged in as a teacher which helps me get on sites like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter which I think are blocked for students, but just this week it wouldn't let me on the GDC.
Slave To The Network Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 That's sucks so hard! If I knew how to get around it I would certainly tell you... but I don't
