bjafan129 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Premier Guitar posted a video on the guitars that Billie, Jason, and Mike use and also show how the get the tones and everything for the songs live. If you have 25 minutes, this is defiantly worth seeing!
Cob Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 YES!!!!!!! I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVE RIG RUNDOWNS!!!!!!!! No Rebecca Dirks
Jude O'Reilly Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 oh nice might check it out when I have time to kill
Liam Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I was actually in the process of watching this and planning to post it when I was done. It's actually a really cool video to learn about the boys set ups. It's been than the video we got during the 21CB tour which was about 2 minutes and explained shit all. I'm really interested to see if Gibson release the new signature they worked on and when Fender will release Mike's new signature bass.
Jimmy Strummer Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I wish Billie was using a simpler rig this time around. All that "preamp out, power amp in" and switching stuff is confusing. I want Billie's tone, but not if it's as complicated as that!!

I want Billie's tone, but not if it's as complicated as that!! You don't need all that outboard gear to get his amp/guitar tone. Those switches and such are necessary when you're playing arenas and running your system through different PA's and acoustic spaces. Otherwise its all amps, guitars, and--most importantly--hands.
WhiteTim Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Awesome video! Anyone knows what model/brand Billie uses for the wireless guitar system?
Cob Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Awesome video! Anyone knows what model/brand Billie uses for the wireless guitar system? I watched the video like an hour ago but I think 80% that the brand is Sure. I want that telecaster.

In fact, when I saw the guitar in the stand I thought to myself "we finally get to hear about the Silver Floyd!"

Hell yeah I saw it upclose at sxsw literally less than 2 feet away i had the venue let me sit down as i had an foot injury so they sat me right on the side of the stage where Billies guitar rack was love it im having my Les Paul Jr done in that
Cob Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 If they release that ES-175 as a signature I would totally buy it. Billie's two signature models are just rebranded LP Juniors but that would a truly unique guitar. I've always loved the Florentine style body of the 175 but I didn't like it's hollow-body qualities. As a semi-hollow I would be really interested in it, though I would prefer it had one volume and a pickup selector.

Yeah hopefully they'll drop it For some strange reason I never noticed Blue's pick up was slanted lol
Ritz Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 This was so badass! Specially the bass part. Its awesome to see the behind the scene stuff! I am happy to know that Mike doesn't use any effects Man, it was really cool Mike's bass tech was just quirky and perky like Mike xD
Lauren Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I'm so excited for this. Don't have time to watch it now, but I will later and come back to discuss.

desertrose Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Billie Joe Armstrong's Guitars Armstrong brings a mixed bag of new and old guitars on tour with him. The mass majority of them are Gibson Les Paul Jr models, but the most iconic guitar dating back to the band's early-90's, 924-Gilman-Street gigs is the super-strat coined Blue. The stickered axe is a Fernandes Stratocaster copy that he got for his birthday when he was 11. Among the things BJA has changed on this axe was the bridge pickup, which he originally swapped out the stock single-coil for a Bill Lawrence humbucker, but eventually deciding in the late '90s to go with a Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB that is set at an EVH-inspired angle. In addition, the guitar's pickup selector is locked in the bridge position and the middle and neck pickups are disconnected. Armstrong uses Blue on primarily Green Day's earlier stuff like "Basket Case," "Longview," "Brain Stew," and "Hitching' a Ride," so the guitar is tuned to Eb and is strung with Ernie Ball Slinky .010--.046 strings (the rest of Armstrong's guitars are tuned to E standard with .010s, too). Other go-to guitars Armstrong uses during live performances includes the repaired TV-yellow Gibson Les Paul Jr doublecut that he busted during the Las Vegas I Heart Radio festival, which Armstrong plays on most of the Uno, Dos, and Tre' material like "99 Revolutions," "Know Your Enemy," and "Stay the Night." Armstrong has a silver-sparkle signature Gibson Les Paul Jr singlecut that he had modded with a Seymour Duncan P-90 Antiquity in the bridge. Two of BJA's vintage LP Jr's that he brought out on this tour were a doublecut '59 TV yellow model and a '55 black singlecut both outfitted with a single P-90 in the bridge. Both guitars are relied on for material from Warning, American Idiot, and 21st Century Breakdown. New acquisitions to Armstrong's touring arsenal are a Rickenbacker 330, modified so it only has one volume control and is used on newer material, while his brand-new-to-him late '60s Martin GT-70 has a bolt-on neck and original DeArmond pickups that are described as being bright. And for picks, Armstrong is currently using custom Dunlop Tortex Uno-themed .73 picks Billie Joe Armstrong's Amps and Effects His two Marshall 100-watt 1959 SLP reissue heads were modified by Martin Golub at L.A. Sound Design. The top head is affectionally known as Pete and has a crunch mod (a.ka. “Dookie” mod or Bradshaw gain mod) and Meat (lower head) has Golub’s SE Lead mod, which adds another preamp tube for more gain. BJA's tech Hans Buscher describes that "the best way to run these amps and to get the most out of their mods is to set everything up at noon, and the master and gain controls at 10 o'clock because if you turn it up any louder than that or add any more gain it doesn't do anything but fizzle out the tone… plus Billie's tone isn't very high-gain because the majority of his dirt and aggression comes from his playing technique and pick attack. Pete is more of a vintage, classic rock tone and Meat is more of a '80s metal sound and when they're blended together you can get a lot of punch and impact." The two heads have been Armstrong's got-to amps since even before their iconic 'mud set' at Woodstock '94 performance. And for his clean tone, BJA uses a rackmount Custom Audio Electronics 3+ SE guitar tube preamp. Both heads and the CAE 3+ SE run through two Marshall 1960B cabinets that are equipped with Celestion Vintage 30s. The cabs are situated on the back of the stage behind Tre' Cool's drum riser and face away from the stage so there is no bleed over into the vocal mics. There is one cab onstage behind Armstrong that is live and that helps him finesse feedback on songs like "Welcome to Paradise." The Shure R4D+ wireless units go into a RJM iS-8 allowing Buscher to switch between eight guitar inputs, which then splits off into either the CAE 3+ SE preamp or Marshall heads and the RJM RG-16 switcher and MasterMind MIDI controller that engage the four main presets that Billie uses. The controller’s presets are Clean, Mid--which is designed to mimic a 10" combo cranked all the way up with the lows taking out and the mids pushed for parts like the opening of "American Idiot"--(both settings bypass the Marshalls’ preamps in favor of a Custom Audio Electronics 3+ SE guitar tube preamp), Big (both Marshalls without the CAE preamp), and Big Effect (which kicks in a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver pedal for solos). BJA does have a MXR Carbon Copy Delay that is used for "Kill the DJ." Jason White's Guitars White's main guitar is a '50s Gibson Les Paul Jr doublecut with two P-90s (and a Gibson Les Paul goldtop with P-90s as its backup) that White uses on rhythm duties for songs from starting with cuts from Warning all the way through the band's recent triology. Another favorite of White's is the Gibson Les Paul that he uses on American Idiot's "Letterbomb" and any of the band's newer material that White takes lead guitar duty because the LP's humbuckers help cut through the mix better. On the LPs, he uses Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky .009--.046 so he can have smaller gauges for soloing, but still have beefier gauges up to for open and power chords (the rest of the guitars are outfit http://www.premierguitar.com/Video/20130503/2287/Rig_Rundown_Green_Day.aspx
Cob Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I find it hilarious that Green Day are apathetic punks and their roadies are also apathetic punks
scottrowan200 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Intresting to know that he is not using h 90 pickups and his guitas have regular p90s or Seymour Duncan p 90s
Jet Taman Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I'm glad we can finally bury the age old argument about Blue that I have been defending for quite some time : THE BLUE HE USES IS THE ONE HE RECEIVED FOR HIS BIRTHDAY WHEN HE WAS A KID! Blue is NOT retired! He did NOT destroy it! He is NOT using a replica! Yes, he has used replicas in the past but there were many people who argued until their faces turned...well...blue...that the Blue he uses now is not the original. Case closed!
