Whatsername868 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Hello from a past GDCer, It's been ages since I've been on this site, but I really felt the need to post this tonight. I wanted to thank this community for so much - I used to practically live on these forums in high school and early college (2005-2010ish). Green Day was my oxygen, and I can't describe how much the band and their music has influenced my life. I don't listen to them *as* much anymore, but out of the thousands and thousands of bands and artists that I've gone through, they're the one that's closest to my heart. Two and a half years ago (Nov 2010), someone on GDC posted a thread that was something like "Twenty Five Questions About Yourself". They were questions like "How old are you?", "What's your occupation in life?", "One thing that you can't live without?", "Where do you live?", "In a relationship or married?", "Favorite and least favorite things about yourself?", "Dream occupation job as a kid and currently?", ...and a bunch of Green Day related questions. I ended up recording a fourteen minute long video of myself rambling on and elaborating on the questions. I'd completely forgotten about the video until just now when I stumbled upon it in my YouTube videos, and I'm speechless. SO much has happened between now and then. Oddly, it was taken only a few months before I fell into my 2+ year relationship that I just ended a week ago. It was taken during my second semester away from home in a different city for college. It was taken before I knew so many things about the world and life and how to fall down and pick myself up again. I felt like I was having a conversation with myself from that time just now. During the past year, a lot has happened that has wrecked my confidence much harder than I knew until this moment. But watching that video, I realized that I'm still the same person, that I still hold the same values and passion and determination, that I've accomplished an insane amount of goals, including a lot of the things that I talked about aiming to do in the video (like becoming an art teacher!!). I also was blown away by how effing hot I was, which makes me think that I probably still am (stupid confidence issues, gahh!!). (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ That video stemmed from Green Day - I would have never taken it if I wasn't a member of GDC. I really can't describe what an amazing moment it was to watch it and be pulled back into myself this evening...I really feel that it was a pivotal point in my life and that I'm now ready to move onto whatever the next phase of my life will bring. So, thank you Green Day and GDC. <3PS - I think it would be a really great idea if someone started another "Interview Video" thread sometime soon...maybe your future selves will thank themselves too.
Cob Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Great story. Welcome back to GDC. A lot has changed since you've been gone except one thing: we're all still Green Day crazy!
HolyHandGrenade Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Welcome back. Green Day is great because their lyrics are applicable and relatable to all phases in life, and all circumstances that you could encounter
Batgirl Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Aww Great story! Hope you keep coming back, and also, we have the fan of the week interviews, if that counts?
Vespertine Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Aw, that was awesome. I remember you, though I'm pretty sure you don't remember me!
Whatsername868 Posted April 25, 2013 Author Posted April 25, 2013 ^I do remember your screen name! Glad you're still around on here!
