Jet Taman Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 As many of you know, I've been a fan of Green Day since I was 17 years old and I saw them at Lollapalooza 94, then a few weeks later at Woodstock. Since then, the band has been a HUGE part of my life...In 2001 I proposed to my girlfriend at a Green Day show during the song "Waiting", as a 4th grade teacher I've turned Green Day songs into educational songs, I've been making Blue Replicas since 2005, I got a tattoo of Blue on my leg, and have even written a book about all my adventures at Green Day shows. But not once have I had the opportunity to meet Billie like so many other Green Day fans have. This Wednesday and Thursday, I'm attending the Green Day shows in Philly and Fairfax and I have a plan that I need help on.... I'm planning on showing up with one of my Blue replicas and my book. Neither one of these things do I want signed by him, but I want to give him both. I know he has PLENTY of guitars, but my goal is for him to take the guitar and give it out to some kid in the audience that night and change that kid's life the way Green Day changed my life in 1994. My question is which version should I bring? The 1994 version that started it all? Or should I give the 2013 version which he is playing right now? Should I give the 1996 Insomniac version since it's one he hasn't seen? (Billie has signed a few of the 1994 versions I have made for customers and I even gave one to Joey Armstrong last year at an Emily's Army show). Now who knows if I'll even be able to get into the venue with the guitar. I'm hoping that maybe if I get there early enough I can give it to him as he arrives or I can convince the security to let me in, or I can latch onto someone who has backstage passes--not to get backstage, just to get myself in the door (**cough! cough! Christianne! ) So if you could give me your thoughts on this about which version to take and most importantly, your positive thoughts about getting my goal accomplished, I'd be most happy. If anyone has read my book, you'll understand why it is so important to me. Thanks so much, guys. Hope to see you this week.....
DoodleBob Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I personally think you should give the 1994 version. It's probably the most well-known version of Blue, and like you said...it started it all! Good luck trying to give the guitar to Billie Joe! This is really such a sweet thing for you to do and I know whoever receives it will love it!
JIGD13 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Give him the 2013 one, because I think he will be impressed. And because it's for a kid and he could see that same guitar played by BJ
Cath Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 What you want to do is sooo generous! According to me, I would prefer to have the 1994 version thought. But like it was said above, Billie would be suprised to see the 2013 version. I really hope you will be able to accomplish your goal seriously, as you said plenty of people met the guys and you deserve it more than anyone right now. I don't have any advices to give you, but as you said try to get there early and try to see them or to find a way the guitar get in the backstages! Or by the security, they would be stupid to refuse that thought. Best of luck and give us the review after!!
Sarcasm Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 About the book, I's just throw it onstage, or mail it to the fanmail address. The guitar is more tricky, how are you getting it in at all? I'd think security would shrug if they saw you with a guitar over your shoulder.

Sarcasm Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 It's a chance I have to take. It's better to regret something I did rather than something I didn't do...Still it's gonna suck standing outside listening to the show. Seriously, I'd just mail it all with a letter.

Mandy_PunkRock Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 In my opinion I think you should give to him the 1994 version, as you said, that's the year when all started. I would love to have such a legendary guitar of my favourite band. I really admire your generosity! Best good luck wishes for you!
Lauren Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 People has weed in there, a miniature guitar is something that that guys should let pass it's not miniature. it's a full sized guitar.
Jet Taman Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 Still it's gonna suck standing outside listening to the show. Seriously, I'd just mail it all with a letter. Nah, I'd walk it back to my car and make my way up front as much as possible when I went back in. People has weed in there, a miniature guitar is something that that guys should let pass Yeah, unfortunately it's a full size guitar.
Alan86 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I would say the 94 version What you are trying to do is so cool, i hope you succeed because it would make some kid very happy. Billie may even use the guitar on stage before giving it away, that'd be awesome best of luck with it
moonflower93 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Good luck. if it fails, definitely try sending it via mail.
Lauren Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Hey... I'm still a kid (sort of), and I'm going to the Philly show... just bypass the middleman (Billie Joe) and give the guitar to me!

BringMoreKnives Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I'd say give him the 2013 version. I'm gonna be at the Fairfax show too
jake7722 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 What I would do is get there very, very early in the morning. Maybe 6 or 7. When the band goes into the venue to soundcheck, the crew usually hand out 20 or so soundcheck passes. I bet if you explained what you are trying to do to the crew, they would let you in with no problem. Maybe you could give it to Billie during soundcheck (if you get in)? And if you have the pass, after soundcheck you get taken to a "VIP lounge" where you wait and get let in when the doors open. Anyways, I hope your plan goes well! What you are trying to do is truly amazing and inspiring. Have a great time at the concert! I would bring the 1994 version.

Good thought If ANYONE helps me get in no matter how it's done, I will give you a free Blue--your choice of what version. No cost.
jake7722 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 are you basing this off the 2009 tour? because you said "usually". and I don't think that always happens. I read somewhere that they handed out passes at the Moline show.

No cost. word, cool! i don't think i'll be there until after they do the soundcheck, though. this is kind of a last minute thing and i'm going with other people. if this was 2009, i could get you in the soundcheck for sure but unfortunately they don't do it that way anymoreI read somewhere that they handed out passes at the Moline show. cool! i know sometimes it depends on the venue, though. but it'd be cool if they do that again
EmeniusAmanda Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 You should bring the 1994 version! I'm 14 and I'm coming to the Fairfax show. I'm in the General Admission pit, so if you manage to give him the guitar hopefully I have a chance of seeing it (:
Cath Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Good thought If ANYONE helps me get in no matter how it's done, I will give you a free Blue--your choice of what version. No cost. Woow you're so much generous it's incredible! Wish I could go to the same shows.
BillieJoe1972 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 This is such a cool and thoughtful thing for you to do. What a great way to share your talent!! Either version of Blue would be great but I think the '94 version would be my choice. Good luck with this!! I hope everything works out for you!! And have a great time at the shows!!
