2005 Q Interview with Green Day

So, I was reading through a Q Magazine my brother gave me and they interview Green Day shortly after American Idiot. If there is a thread for this, I apologize and close this and make a fool out of me, but there were some very interesting quotes that I found that are now relevant today. Those quotes are:

The recoding of American Idiot, he says, almost cost him his 11-year marriage. "LA is full of people with scripts, plastic surgery victims, people crashing and burning. That could be me. I'm fascinated and horrified by that. I recognize that self-destructive part of myself. I don't want to be too specific, but speed and cocaine don't suit me in great quantities. But alcohol, that's a good fit. I can get out of control in a funny way-"

I just find it fascinating to read back on a quote like this and see what happened just a few months ago.

Also in regards to American Idiot: The Motion Picture:

Armstrong has written a treatment and a local writer is fleshing out the characters. "I just want to make sure it's done properly and does not suck. I think there'll be more music to go with the film. But as for us being in it, I couldn't say."

Sounds to me like this ended up being the musical with 21st Century Breakdown being the "more music." Also, will we ever see this album hit the big screen?

It's a really interesting read to go back and look at. There are scans of this on the Articles section here on GDA. Thougts on the quotes? Also, Billie mentioned how they almost broke up because of how Mike and Tre would make fun of him, like Tre saying that 'Welcome To Paradise' was a shitty song.

I thought that it was a good interview when I first read it

Any chance of scans?

I didn't know they almost split because of comments like that  I knew about other things they said to Billie, but... that sucks! :ermm: It's good that they could sort out those problems.

Can you link the scans please?

Its strange how they still had a lot of tension, even after releasing Money Money 2020, which was supposed to release that tension

Yeah, that seems to be a common theme with this band. FBHT sure didn't seem to make the making of 21CB any easier... we know that was a really intense, difficult album to make for them. And then look at the trilogy, which they said they really enjoyed making, and then everything blew up afterward...

Great read, really liked how Billie described what the band meant to him and what the success of American Idiot meant to him, especially at the end. He seems very humble about it all and he seems to tell people that its okay to be successful, to have a future or when your going through hard times (like the band was going through in the Warning days) you can still look forward. Thats how American Idiot is to me, thats what he wanted it to be. I look and listen to that album and I really find hope, that album saved me, and I'm glad Billie wanted it to do that to people. I think its good for a "punk" band like them.

Also what I find interesting is that they planned for a American Idiot movie even before the play was an idea. They've been planning on a movie for a while now and I completely agree with Billie, I think if you do an American Idiot movie, it has to be right. The movie cannot be rushed and everything has to be done right. My prediction for us getting a movie would be after the Trilogy Era. Once the band is completely done touring and doing everything for the Trilogy, thats when I think Billie, Mike and Tre will go in and focus on that, kind of like they did with 21st Century Breakdown, and then doing the musical.
