Most underrated/under appreciated Green Day song on each album

Kerplunk - Android!!!! It is one of my all time favorite Green Day songs because of the lines "it seems so frightening, time passes by like lightning, before you know it you're struck down" those lines mean the world to me and I'm probably going to get them tattooed someday in some sort.

Most of the Trilogy. I'm listening to live recordings of those songs right now and I'm blown away. They're simplistic but have energy (which was missing on the albums). It's less of a spectacle than 21CB and AI. Trilogy songs fit in small clubs so much better - I wish we had the complete footage of gigs that were recorded for Quatro.

3 for 3 ? Trilogy songs fitted perfectly into the setlist.

I remembered how excited to see them play those songs I was in 2012. And I got just as excited now. They sounded so much rawer and punkier. it was awesome.

Here's my list:

1039/SOSH: Rest
Kerplunk: One For The Razorbacks
Dookie: Sassafras Roots
Insomniac: Panic Song
Nimrod: Prosthetic Head
Warning: Castaway
AI: Give Me Novacaine (is there really an underrated song on this album? Lmao)
21CB: See The Light
Uno: Angel Blue
Dos: Wow! That's Loud
Tre: Sex Drugs & Violence

I wasn't sure what qualified as underrated, so really these are just songs off the top of my head that I really love that aren't singles or setlist staples.

The Judge's Daughter, One for the Razorbacks, Having a Blast, Westbound Sign, Worry Rock, Warning (the entire album) but especially Jackass and Deadbeat Holiday, Homecoming, Christian's Inferno, and the entire Trilogy but especially Fell For You, Wild One and Sex, Drugs & Violence.

Like many of you have already said, I also think that most of the trilogy-songs are way underrated: Brutal Love, Lazy Bones, Stay the Night, Carpe Diem, Dirty Rotten Bastards, X-Kid, to name just a few. I think that's mainly because they didn't really have a chance to play the songs live. So I'm still hoping that they will play some trilogy-songs during RevRad tour, this could give them a push.

From the other albums, I'm voting for No One Knows, Uptight, Haushinka, Redundant and Macy's Day Parade as most underrated songs. I don't think that there is any song under-appreciated on AI, although I would have wished Whatsername and Give me Novacaine to be singles. And Lights Out should have been on 21CBD, that one is so great.

Here's what I got:

39/Smooth: Green Day (song of the same name) - I love the tune to the song and the rock'n'roll strums I hear throughout.

Kerplunk: Dominated Love Slave - This song had me cracking up when I heard it first. It's my favorite song from the album.

Dookie: Having A Blast, Chump, Pulling Teeth - Having and Blast and Chump are just nice classic Green Day songs with tunes I like. Pulling Teeth is slightly cowpunk and the catchiest song of Dookie. It's the Dookie equivalent to "Dominated Love Slave".

Insomniac: Armatage Shanks, Tightwad Hill - My favorite songs from the album, alongside Brain Stew/Jaded (which isn't underrated). I love how the album starts off with Armatage Shanks--like the party starts with that song, and I love the fast pacing of Tightwad Hill. I can't believe how underrated Tightwad Hill is.

Nimrod: The Grouch, Last Ride In, Jinx/Haushinka - The Grouch is nicely written. You can feel the angst with this song. Last Ride In is a unique addition to the variety of Nimrod--it's nice instrumental and I'm glad it was recorded for the album. It calms me down to listen to this song. As for Jinx/Haushinka, I find it one song together, similar to Brain Stew/Jaded. I love how punk rock it sounds, like Nice Guys Finish Last. It feels like I'm skateboarding while listening to it.

Warning: The entire album - I feel bad for this album--it's the most underrated studio album from Green Day, and all of the songs are catchy and get in my head oftentimes. I call this album the "catchy Green Day album". My favorite songs are Warning, Fashion Victim, Minority, and, you guessed it, Castaway.

American Idiot: Homecoming -- A nice counterpart song to Jesus of Suburbia. As if one 9-minute song of 5 songs in the album wasn't enough.

21st Century Breakdown: Static Age, American Eulogy, See the Light: Static Age is a song that makes me feel like I'm listening to FM/AM radio, American Eulogy is the best song on the album--it's like a perfect follow-up to American Idiot; I can't believe how underrated the song is. See the Light is a great ending to this great album.

I haven't listened to much of the Uno/Dos/Tre trilogy--I don't like those albums (except for a few songs like Dirty Rotten Bastards). I have listened to Fuck Time on Dos and believe it to be an underrated song, mostly because of the catchy rock'n'roll music you hear throughout.

Restless Heart Syndrome is one of the most underrated Green Day songs imo.  As someone who didn't like the trilogy and found 21cb to be an enjoyable record, but one with a LOT of problems that really prevent me from liking it all that much, I'd claim this song to be (as of now) the best post AI song.  That part after the chorus where the entire song explodes is one of the best moments of their entire career.  I love that song.

Other than that, most underrated GD songs I can think of are b/sides.  The majority of Shenanigans comes to mind.  I think Ha Ha Your Dead and Suffocate/Desensitized are pretty popular among die hards.   Shenanigans has a lot of cool stuff on it, like Do Da Da, Rotting, and Scumbag I was always fond of.  The AI 21CB b/sides are pretty sweet too.  Too Much Too Soon is great, and their covers of Like a Rolling Stone and A Quick One While He's Away rivaled the better songs on 21CB imo

"Coming Clean" is notable for it's empathy towards its queer protagonist. "No Pride" off Insomniac is an awesome experiment. "Prosthetic Head" is the most indie rock sounding Green Day song. "Church On Sunday" is brilliant. Man, they have a shit load of albums.

Gotta love this thread- we all have our favorites and here is my blend over the last 20+ years:

Deadbeat Holiday, Westbound Sign, Stuart and the Ave., Castaway, Having a Blast, One of My Lies, I was There, FOD, All the Time, Letterbomb, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, Disappearing Boy,  Jinx/ Haushinka, Rusty James, I Wanna Be Alone, !Viva La Gloria!, 80, Last Night on Earth, Panic Song, Uptight, Green Day, Razorbacks, Scattered, Brutal Love.

When I die and am sent to purgatory or whatever lies in the great beyond, that's the live setlist I want to be sent out upon...

1039: At the Library. this song gets my psyched for the rest of the album, it has so much energy just in those first chords.

Kerplunk: One of my Lies is so great, the lyrics always stuck with me.

Dookie: Coming Clean, possibly one of my favorites on this album and all time. I like the subject matter it was one of the first to be about coming out.

Insomniac: STUART AND THE AVE, like the best song on this album. The bass grove is amazing.

Nimrod: All the Time, this riff is really catchy. People never really talk about how fun this song is.

Warning: Church on Sunday is super catchy for me. The chorus always stuck with me since the first time I heard it.

American Idiot: Letterbomb is pretty underrated when it comes to the huge singles on this record people forget about the other songs. I always loved this straight up punk rock song. And I loved it during the broadway show when all girls sang it, it made it so powerful.

21st: I don't hear a lot about Murder City because it's just a lot like other Green Day straight up punk rock songs but I really enjoying and I like how it conveys the feeling of hopelessness

Uno: Oh Love is a wonderful closer but it took awhile to grow on me. But it totally did.

Dos: Stray Heart isn't talked about much but i really like it, and I actually love the video.

Tre: Missing You is so catchy but what really does it for me is the breakdown at the bridge with the bass.

and all of Shenanigans

1039: Green Day (massively underrated, also not the easiest to find on YouTube considering you're searching for "Green Day - Green Day")

Kerplunk: Welcome to Paradise (the Kerplunk version is so much rawer but doesn't get nearly as much love IMO)

Dookie: Coming Clean (the drums make this track for me for some reason)

Insomniac: Westbound Sign or Stuck with Me (love the aggression in these tracks, exceptionally killer live when they're played even faster, shame they're almost never played anymore)

Nimrod: All the Time or Worry Rock (melody on these two are great, possibly Billie's cleverest lyrics to Insomniac)

Warning: Walking Alone (amazing folky tune, this one gets even less of a spotlight considering 95% of the time people search for "Green Day - Walking Alone", BoBD shows up instead)

Shenanigans:  Desensitized (no idea why they decided to keep this one off Nimrod, absolutely love the attitude they bring out on it)

American Idiot: Whatsername (undoubtedly their best album finisher to date, Billie perfectly encapsulates the entire album and wraps it up with a bittersweet-sounding track that leaves you hungering for more)

21st Century Breakdown: ¿Viva la Gloria? (Little Girl) (opens so hauntingly, until it eventually becomes this explosive almost-operatic track with the multiple backup vocals, the "sister of grace" part still give me goosebumps)

¡Uno!: Sweet 16 (melody on this one is beautiful, brings back a nostalgic euphoria for some reason)

¡Dos!: Ashley (the trilogy didn't see enough fast-pace moments IMO, this one I think brings some of that excitement to the table)

¡Tré!: Amanda (really wish they kept the original intro from the live Red 7 gig, was hoping this one to be on Demolicious because it would sound kickass without the shitey trilogy production)

Revolution Radio: Too Dumb to Die (I don't think this one is all that underrated, but it's one I'm really enjoying off of RevRad and I think it should be the next single)
