"The Forgotten" was referenced in a few news paper articles, but I can't remember the exact ones. Does anyone remember any details about how the song was described or how it is supposed to sound? All I recall is that it is a ballad. Also, can we all just be excited that we get another new song officially released as a single really soon? And it's connected to a successful movie franchise so it will introduce a lot more people to Green Day's music. Sure, the movies suck, but this is about exposing new people to Green Day's music and personally I'm really hopeful that they get a lot more fans through this.

I'm positive a few articles discussed it, but I just can't remember which ones.

The song was mentioned in Rolling Stone mag (June 2012):

...Later the strings lay a strong hint of John Lennon's "Mind Games" over a ballad called "Forgotten"

'Don't look away...from the arms of love'

That's fucking awesome that it's the lead single, can't wait to hear it.

I've actually agreed to take my girlfriend to see this movie purely based on the fact Green Day are doing the soundtrack. The deal is we're staying for the end credits!

On the bright side, March Madness will be insanely easy to win next year...

Made my day. :)

But still! Why couldn't Green Day just take example from MCR and disagree!

It makes sense, as much as I hate to say it. Green Day have evolved to appeal to a very large, saturated with money market that shops at Hot Topic on Friday nights, adores any number of examples of book to pop culture phenomena ranging from Harry Potter to Twilight to The Hunger Games, and this is a pure business move on their part. From their perspective, they'd have been foolish to say "no".

I'm expecting a dark song with piano and string

Does that mean the song will be getting a video? How does it usually go with singles from the Twillight soundtrack?

Edit:

I'm sorry, what was I thinking asking that question while none of us even like Twillight :P

So the soundtrack will be released the same day as ¡DOS! ( ) and the movie 3 days later - Wooo!

And it will be a single?? :woot: That's awesome!

I think the release of the song as the first single will definately work. I'm expecting this song to be positioned perfectly in charts. I'm just hoping for a video too.

That is kind of awkward.. They will be having 2 singles out, one supporting Dos and the other supporting the Twillight soundtrack.

I wonder which one will hit number 1 because I got a feeling both singles will be amazing :P

Being the last song of the trilogy, I'm suprised they've let them use this song. It's a biggie.

Twilight's not my cup of tea at all, I just really think it's horrid that their idea of vampires is that they sparkle :P Ahh well, back to the main event...I like the title, it sounds so awesome! I can't wait to hear it! I'd like to think I'll love it instantly, it sounds like such a story; The Forgotten.

The Forgotten announced as Lead Single, to be released on 23rd October!

"The Forgotten" by Green Day Announced as Lead Single; Brand New Track Available at All DSPs on October 23rd; Soundtrack to Highly Anticipated "Twilight Saga" Final Chapter Also Features New and Exclusive Tracks From Ellie Goulding, Passion Pit, Christina Perri, and Many More; Soundtrack Arrives Everywhere on November 13th

Well, for all the bashing I've gone on with about the marketing, I'll give credit where credit is due. If the band's gonna do anything connected with mainstream pop culture, they've gotta go all out and do it right. This -- the damn lead single for the movie soundtrack -- is doing it right. They're not seemingly settling for being an afterthought, they're not a "you've got one fucking minute left." They're a spearhead, and FINALLY somebody is using them to their potential here.

Now about that Angry Birds bullshit...... :pinch::D

I foresee The Forgotten doing very well on the radio and on iTunes charts. I'm so ready for their first big hit since 21 Guns!

I want The Forgotten to be a chart-topping, millions-selling crazy epic single that everyone loves and earns them awards.

And from there, I want people to learn/remember how perfect Green Day is, and go buy each album of the trilogy. And their older albums too while they're at it.

I think this may be the best marketing move they've made since...... I don't even know when. Ever. From a purely business standpoint, this is a great move.

I mean, like it or not, Twilight is huge, and this should certainly help Green Day in terms of radio airplay and single/album sales. Win!
