Brian Gag Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Cracked writer Adam Tod Brown has the "Quick Fix" article 3 Ways Green Day Just Had the Least Punk Rock Meltdown Ever. Curious to know your thoughts on the article.
Trina Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Don't even have to read it to comment that people need to shut up about this not being punk rock or hardcore. At the end of the day none of this shit matter at the moment. This guy has a wife and kids and is seeking help he needs. It's hardly punk rock to make your family and band have to deal with something like that for image's sake. It's extremely brave for him to get help despite being in the public eye and knowing how judgmental people will be. I'm really proud of him. And does this really deserve a thread? Feels more "random news" worthy to me. Some basement dweller's lame opinion that Green Day's not punk, whoo.

And they are a little more popular than basement dweller levels, so yes, this can stay. Some of you need to learn how to handle dissenting opinions, a person is not an asshole if he is doing anything but signing a hallmark card for BJ.
Johnny. Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 ugh really? im past even caring about what all these journalists climbing over each other to try seem the most witty are saying.
That Dude Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 wow. He still performed very well considering.
Undómiel Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Bahahaha. The comments. I especially like the one about the guitar not breaking...
Melissa-Whatsername Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Billie Joe insulted justin Bieber, ok yes he did... and this is now the end of the world in the media. but a few day ago Paris Hilton insulted every single homosexual man all over the world and this is no more big deal because she excused??????? I mean WTF??? seriously this is really pissing me off!!
Rumpelstiltskin Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 the comments are pretty interesting to read
BasKerplunCase Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 That website was intended to piss people off.

Actually, what I found most annoying about Paris Hilton's rant was not that she made a homophobic remark, but that people still don't realize that all homophobia always sounds as moronic from anyone as it does from her.
gdpony Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Love cracked It's funny to read stuff from a non fan point of view.
Brian Gag Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 Don't even have to read it to comment that people need to shut up about this not being punk rock or hardcore. Trina Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Cracked is a comedy website, their intent is to be funny. And they are a little more popular than basement dweller levels, so yes, this can stay. Some of you need to learn how to handle dissenting opinions, a person is not an asshole if he is doing anything but signing a hallmark card for BJ. I know what it is and I know their intent is to be funny. I think they've definitely missed the mark with this article though. I just genuinely find it humorless, sorry. If it were about someone else, even someone I didn't like I still wouldn't find it funny. If someone wants to point out the funny bits, lemme know. I'm aware the site is popular. Still doesn't meant the writer isn't a basement dweller. Also, I was being sarcastic with that comment. I'm still unsure why this should stay. What discussion is there to be had about an "article" saying someone seeking help for substance abuse is so not punk rock? I don't see any interesting points brought up at all. Just over analysis and twisting of words. You have to realise, someone can be a huge fan of Green Day and have a legitimate point about something which is "against" Green Day and that they're not just saying it in an over defensive way. You can't brush off or delegitimize what someone's saying just cause they're a big fan. :/
Trotsky Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Well I think it is at least an interesting perspective. I disagree with the article about some things, I wouldn't call BJ a "whiny pop-star", but I do agree with the overall theme of "is something this tame really what passes for a huge incident these days?" I could merge it into random news, people will talk about it either way.
I-Like-Pop-Tarts Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I found it enlightening - Usher has been around since 1987?
Gwen Stacy Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I love Cracked, but they really do seem to just not like Green Day, across the board. Every month or so it's something in an article about how Green Day sucks or aren't hardcore. Fuck them, they write for a comedy site.
Sarcasm Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Cracked are bitter and sarcastic assholes, and I love them for being that. Can't get mad because I like who they diss.
Abbey. Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Well said. Agree with everything from this article. BJA's rant was shameful. Whiney entertainers can all go fuck themselves. Theyre way overpaid for what they do. **We** know Green Day is better than this but that rant...shameful.

The thing is, if the article was about the media's reaction and their headlines about Billie's "explosive meltdown" and such and how they were an overreaction then yeah, he'd have a point. I just don't even feel there's any perspective, there's nothing... I don't think you can really analyze someone's "substance" affected words and actions like that. This wasn't a case of Billie Joe trying to be punk rock, it was a case of Billie Joe being wasted, in whatever way and saying and doing things he seemingly regrets to some extent, seeing as he apologised. This thing about Usher is all based on an untruth. Billie Joe never said he was cut short because of usher, he never said he was cut short at all. When you only have three points and one of them is based on a lie...wlll...you've already lost a third of your legitimacy. The point about why they were even playing that festival and that they were shooting for pop stardom is pretty stale and lame imo. I assumed they thought, why the fuck not, some weird festival in vegas, a chance to win over some non-fans, have a good time, bring the family, etc. Billie Joe even asked the fans on instagram who else was on the bill the day before so it's not like they were that clued in. I don't care if people talk about it (though I don't think there's much to discuss), I just think the article's genuinely crap and irrelevant. Uninteresting.

I think most of us scratched our heads on why theyd be playing this event with a bunch of poptarts. All I know is BJA ranted on and on like an entitled baby on that stage and I was completely ashamed, because that is not the rockstar BJA i know and loooooooooove. He truly embarassed himself up there. As far as I know the only apology came from the Green Day website/management. As you point out this article may only be half-true on what went on that night I think it does interpret the rant correctly as just fucking lame.
Mar Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 "Using a guitar to get there instead of dance moves does not make you some kind of rebel. You're just a Top 40 artist like any other." This is why I was cringing at his rant, even if I hate Usher and Bieber.
Uno1Dos2Tre3 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 The comments on cracked are pissing me off..
joeysturkeyhead Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Well, people really still think he's in treatment because of that performance?! Billie does have drinking problems and that makes me really sad and it also makes me sad that some media and fans are denying it. It was neither a publicity stunt, I've only speaked the truth, I've siad mine. Well, people really still think he's in treatment because of that performance?!
