21stcenturyidiot Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Also what's your favourite Opening track Lyric? Like very first lines? "Hey there looking at me, tell me what do you see?" - At the Library (1039) "I sit alone in my bedroom, staring at the walls" - 2000 Lightyears Away (Kerplunk) "I declare I don't care no more, I'm burning up and growing bored" - Burnout(Dookie) "Stranded lost inside myself, my own worst friend" - Armatage Shanks (Insomniac) "Nice Guys finish last, you're running out of Gas" - Nice guys finish Last (Nimrod) "This is a public service announcement, but this is only a test, Emergency evacuation protest" - Warning (Warning) "Don't wanna be an American Idiot,Don't want a nation under the media" - American Idiot (America Idiot) "Sing us a song of the century, louder than bombs and eternity/Born into Nixon I was raised in hell, a welfare child where the teamsters dwelled" - Song of the century/21CBD - (21st Century Breakdown) "Gonna ride the world like a merry-go-round, like a ferris wheel that's breaking down" - Nuclear Family (Uno) I personally love them all, and writing this has made me realise what a good song writer Billie really is.
Dalya Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 "Sing us a song of the century, louder than bombs and eternity"
basKT_case90 Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 At the library!!! The repetition of those first to chords is just kick-ass!!!
Comic Sans Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 I'm sit alone in my bedroom, staring at the walls! 2000LYA!!
Karol Oliveira Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 The opening line of American Idiot is "Don't want to be an American Idiot, don't want a nation under the new mania" Voted for Burnout. I declare I don't care no more!
localinsomniac Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Went with NGFL. It immediately punches you in your Goddamn neck and sets the tone for the next 49 minutes.
sampy Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Song Of The Century/21st Century Breakdown is just so epic that I voted for it. I think American Idiot, NGFL and Nuclear Family are also great opening tracks!
Justin Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 At the minute i love Nuclear Family think its a great opener
Lindsay Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Definitely Burnout. It's got that whole "in your face" vibe and immediately sucks you in; I don't think Dookie would have been the same if any other track had opened up the album.
Homero Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Song of the century/21st Century Breakdown... Because it's epic, and because i have the memory of waiting for Green Day to come on stage on the show I went while listening to Song of the century
21stcenturyidiot Posted September 20, 2012 Author Posted September 20, 2012 It's Nuclear Family for me at the minute, but I think they're all brilliant. They all set you up and set the tone for the rest of the album...now for album closers? Maybe someone else do that Very last line on the last song
GuitarPunk94 Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 tough decision between 'At the library...Burnout...Armatage Shanks..and Nice Guys Finish Last'...i voted for the Nimrod. opener in the end ^^ i didnt even care about Nuclear Family as the best opener (i already listened to NF but i didnt listen to UNO in full yet so i guess my decision about NF being the best opener for a full album has to wait ^^ )
EvanAsFuck Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Definitely Burnout. Used to write "I declare I don't care no more" all over my binders in 5th and 6th grade...
Annie, get your gun Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 I voted for American Idiot 'cause it's my favorite ♥ But the other bests openings are in 1039, Dookie and Insomniac.
burnout409 Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 This is tough! Green Day have always had brilliant opening tracks for albums and live shows, they really know how to plan out a set list and track list brilliantly! Gonna have to give it some more thought before voting...... but at the moment im loving Nuclear Family as an opening track and overall song i love it sooo sooo much, but i think im swaying towards it because its shiny and new, will think about it for a while then vote
21stcenturyidiot Posted September 20, 2012 Author Posted September 20, 2012 Far away, far away Waste away tonight Tonight my heart's on the loose - Oh Love I don't want to lose my sight I just want to see the light I need to know what's worth the fight - See the Light If my memory serves me right I'll never turn back timeForgetting you, but not the time - Whatsername The one I've never known cause now I know it's all that I wanted - Macy's Day parade All dressed up, red blooded, Amannequin Do or die, no reply, don't deny that you're synthetic. You're pathetic.- Prosthetic Head But I believe I'm a walking contradiction And I ain't got no right – Walking Contradiction A side of you well hid When it's all said and done it's real and it's been fun But was it all REAL fun – FOD I only wanna be for sure Get in my mind and you will find Mother love from all mankind – Strangeland Why don't you just leave me alone This conflict is my own Keep your sources away from me that's all. – I want to be alone For me, not all of them really work as " closing the album" if Good Riddance had closed Nimrod it would have worked better IMO Also I've excluded All By myself, the live version of 86 from Warning and My Generation from Kerplunk
Comic Sans Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Deleted my vote, but then voted for Burnout. It was a really hard choice, but then i realized Burnout is better.
Comic Sans Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Whatsername! I prefer Walking Contradiction, but i think Whatsername is better as closing track.
Alan86 Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Whatsername is a great final track. All the rest are good. Never liked "see the light" though.
