nimrod07 Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I haven't yet. I'm not crazy. But I like to go into an album not knowing anything. With Green Day, I always close myself off from the world and listen to the entire album through on its release day. Been doing it since Warning. Green Day was big for me in high school...nimrod was life changing to me. Anyone else or am I the only one? haha
Femme Gauche Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Hmm... I considered it. I did it for 21st Century Breakdown. It seems it was a pretty big thing for that album. For this one, though, I've heard all of the singles/official releases. I listened to the interview where Billie Joe leaked a bunch of songs, but I quickly forgot them... But now I've heard a small portion of Stay The Night as well. All in all, I've done rather poorly . But I have resolved not to listen to any more Green Day, new or old, until the album, except for live appearances on t.v. or whatever.
nimrod07 Posted September 14, 2012 Author Posted September 14, 2012 This will be hard not to hear songs on the next 2. Hard on all albums though due to the massive marketing being done. If I watch something, I mute it. Or save links so I can go back and watch once the albums have been released. Just such a great feeling not knowing what the next song is going to sound like. I'm getting excited, just wish they'd be more like nimrod rather than 21st CB.
Femme Gauche Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 If you haven't heard them, how can you say what it is more like? o_o.
Katarina. Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Ah, team A vs team B for the trilogy! I listened to Oh Love because it was the first single and the music video was on tv a few times. Then I watched their live video of Let Yourself Go. In the car to the MG show I heard Kill the DJ for the first time (and right then realized the intro's been my alarm and ringtone for weeks!), but didn't want to download it. A few days ago though I was surprised to see the music video on tv so I heard the song too. That's it though. I ordered the box set and hopefully the album will be here next week. Cannot wait!
Hedwig Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Well I've heard Oh Love, the live Let Yourself Go and the part of Kill the DJ that's a part of the SN intro, so yea. A bit, but not all. Oh and Fuck Time, but you know.
Sarcasm Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I haven't been sculking around youtube for live clips, but the bbc1 thing ruined my plan of being surprised. Damn them.
Beathe. Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I've listend to some off the new song. I have no patience whatsoever when it comes to things like that. You're not missing much. This.
beejeezee Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I've listened to some but with Uno ten days away I'm not gonna listen to anymore util then.
Heather! Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I've heard the first three singles but nothing else. I'm really anxious to listen to Nuclear Family though since everyone I've talked with really likes it! so I'm just gonna keep Let Yourself Go on repeat until I have the whole album...
Tubbie Head Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I am weak, I listened to a few songs already (some of them just the crappy live versions from the 2010-2012 shows, but I only listened to those once back then, then the radio 1 interview, I just couldn't resist, and the singles (except Nuclear Family and the studio version of Let Yourself Go). I'm waiting to hear everything else! If they play songs I haven't heard before in the streamed bit of the concert tomorrow, I will still hear them, just 'cause it's a live stream! It can't go to waste!
Femme Gauche Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Now I've heard Stay The NIght as well cause of GMA. But that's it, I swear . Only 10 1/2 more days... (really, though, 11 days cause I'm gonna listen to it in the afternoon)
localinsomniac Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I'm with you, man. I heard all the early versions in last year's secret show recordings, but that's it. I've avoided the studio stuff at all costs, and for the exact same reasons as you. There will be virtually no frame of reference when I pick up the album on release day; the singles won't be overplayed or anything like that. That's exciting to me. I think it builds the anticipation and makes the first listen that much more satisfying.
Micky Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I've listened to those songs officially released, that is Oh Love, Let Yourself Go, Kill the DJ and Nuclear Family. Then I'll wait for the album to come out.
Uno1Dos2Tre3 Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I listened to almost everything possible. Live tracks, singles, bbc radio interview.. Keeping myself isolated just seems like too much work + I can't stop myself. But I won't listen to the leak when it happens, since it's just about 10 days left for the album release.
pieterv Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I decided I would try to, but gave up. Now I excuse my failure with the fact that the leaks and early singles are part of their unplanned and supposedly unconventional marketing technique that I want to experience as well. I couldn't rely on myself to keep myself hyped by not listening so now I rely on them to keep me hyped by fully committing to following their whole marketing strategy. I'm going to try again to not listen for ¡Dos! and ¡Tre! since I haven't heard a lot of these songs at all. Cool that you have managed to hold out on listening so far, hope you'll like it when it comes out

Although I am increasingly giving in... Glad it is only a little more than a week away...
VirginiaMisery Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Nah I had to give in. I don't have enough self control for that.
Moriarty Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I've listened to the singles, and have them on my phone. But I haven't listened to the bootlegs from the live shows. Basically all I've heard is what's on iTunes.
Hermione Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Ah, team A vs team B for the trilogy! I'm half way between A and B this time. I've listened to everything they've put out officially, plus recordings of the new songs they played at the show in London (not much point in avoiding them after that), and the bits they played on Radio 1. But I haven't heard the majority of the new songs and don't intend on listening to any not-so-great quality live recordings when I could just wait for the album and have some lovely surprises, or on listening to the stream. So I'm not a proper Team B virgin , but I might be seen in this thread between the stream and Uno coming out for moral support.
ANJI Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I've only listened to the singles so far...just waiting to get my hands on Uno in 2 weeks Gotta control my urges though
Femme Gauche Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 To quell my desire, I am listening to a lot of non-Green Day artists that I love . Because all I want to do is listen to Green Day, but that's a slippery slope I think we all know .
No Rhyme Or Reason Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 At first, when they were playing all the secret shows last year, I didn't want to hear too much of the new material. I had already ruined Kelly Clarkson's new album by listening to all of her 70 leaks (a lot) over the summer - then when her CD came out in October and I already knew most of the songs, the album just seemed less interesting and special than it should have. I was already tired of some of the songs; or at least no longer excited by them. Because of that I wanted to steer clear of Green Day's new songs so the album(s) would be a surprise and it would be special. I heard a few of the songs (Amy, Carpe Diem, Stay The Night, etc) once but then not again. I really loved Oh Love, but I never allowed myself to listen beyond the first chorus, and I only let myself hear that first 90 seconds about 5 times, then I forced myself to stop. I was trying to keep everything a surprise! But.... then their whole marketing plan came, and I had to listen to the official releases, right? So I listened Oh Love (so addicted to that song!), and then Let Yourself Go (which I was underwhelmed by, so I only heard it twice), then Kill The DJ a few times (love it)... Then Billie got all evil and played snippets of a bunch of songs in the BBC interview, which I listened to only twice, but they're all stuck in my head. And now Nuclear Family & Stay The Night (GMA). So I've been trying to not overdo it, but I've heard most of the songs at least once. I think I've done okay, though not as well as I'd planned, but I think the 3 albums will still be enough of a surprise. I've only listened enough to whet my appetite, but not totally fill me up. BUT once those CDs are out, they will be on repeat all the time!!
