"Broadway Idiot" Documentary by Doug Hamilton

The American Idiot musical tour is coming to my university next week, and I happened across this happening at our cinema as well.

"Broadway Idiot follows Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong from a punk rock concert at Madison Square Garden to the opening of his musical American Idiot on Broadway - only ten blocks away, but worlds apart. Go backstage as Green Day takes on Broadway – and ultimately see how the world of theater transformed Billie Joe. (HD Cam. 78 min. Not rated.)"

According to this as well, the director is Doug Hamilton, who will be coming and speaking before and after the showing of the documentary at the cinema and will be "discussing the rough cut of the film before it premieres at festivals"

I am not sure if this is one of the documentaries that has been talked about for release, or if it something else entirely. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

The cast of American Idiot all gathered recently a month or two ago to watch some documentary about their Broadway experience.... maybe this is it?

Oh dear lord, I want to see this like a fat kid wants cake.

Wow, that sounds awesome.

Can't wait for this! Soon to be appearing at festivals. I know of some film festivals coming soon, so I will be looking for this film.

We gotta figure out what festivals this is happening at!

ktkreez, are you going to the screening?

Yes I am. I was thinking about trying to tape the whole thing, because typically they aren't too strict about things shown in our campus cinema. But it may be weird with the director being there and it being a rough cut and all. I will at least try to tape the talk with the director before/after the documentary. I will definitely pop back on here to give a summary about it though! I am wondering if this is anything that has been talked about before or if it is something separate.

Please do tape the talk with the director! It should be fascinating. Beyond that, do what you feel comfortable with. I certainly wouldn't complain about rough cut hidden camera footage, but don't feel like you have to.

This is *probably* the film the cast went to see... the timing would be too weird for it to be screened this summer and be a different documentary.

Based on a google search it looks like Doug Hamilton has been photographing the musical for some time!

Here's the link to what's posted above just for reference

I WANNA SEE IT TOO

That was a great 9 seconds of Billie narration  I wonder if he was describing his childhood/the story arc of American Idiot, or himself actually wanting to go to Broadway. Probably the former :P

I can't wait to see this!! I've been waiting for something like this for such a long time. I hope it's available for purchase. Just the 9 second teaser video gets me so excited!!
