"Secret Shows" During Official Tour?

This is totally speculative, but I haven't seen a thread like this yet. I'm sure a mod will move it to the proper place if I am incorrect.

During the interview with MTV after the Oh Love video premier (when the 3,000 show rumor started, LOL), Mike had said something to the extent of "we want to play a lot of smaller venues, a lot of theatres, and a lot of arenas." Looking at what they have done with their festival appearances in Japan and London, what do you think the likelihood is that they will keep this going during their official tour?

For example (I live in Phoenix), what do you think the odds are that they will play a small club "secret show" in Phoenix or Tucson the day before their arena show?

A lot of this is wishful thinking, but so far I think there is at least a little bit of merit behind my thoughts.

I think they'll do it in some places but we can't be sure.Green Day are unexpected

If they do it, it would probably be in bigger cities where they tend to do two night stands. I can't see them spending two nights in places where they normally only stop by for one show. So NY, LA, SF, London, etc, instead of like on the last tour doing two nights at Madison Square Garden, I could see them doing one night at the Garden and the second night 'secret show.' I think if you live in a big city that they would only be visiting once, they'd probably do the arena so more people could see them.

Yeah, I could see the secret shows reaching a much larger range of fans than they ever did on previous occasions but not exactly being all over the place.

this will depend entirely on how the rest of the tour shapes up. they did over 130 shows last tour if I remember rightly. if they are booked into a lot of bigger venues then we might see more smaller shows to balance things out. it will depend on how many bigger show are booked though and how tired they get the further they get into the tour.

I just hope this doesn`t end up with more shows being cancelled at the last minute. getting the balance right, especially with people leaking stuff early will make it hard to avoid disappointing people

Well I was VERY happy to see that they were doing Idiot Club pre-sales for their "secret shows" out of the country. Would absolutely love if they kept that going if they do indeed play some small intimate venues.

They should just host a show for just GDCers in Andres backyard and everyone's happy

I really hope they do it, it seems almost impossible to do in every single country/state (I really wish they would, a secret show in Portugal is all I ask for Christmas, but I know it is has a 0,01 % of chance of happening), but throwing a secret show once in a while would be just great!

They did it back during American Idiot in 2005. They came and did a secret show in San Francisco right after they played at the Wiltern Theatre in LA. So technically they took a break to do a secret show...then they went back to the regular tour. So of course if it does happen again it will be in a big city like Oakland, SF or New York...so don't expect it to be at some run of the mill bar in the middle of nowhere lol.

As much as I completely agree with you, I really think that they really don't give a fuck. They seem to be having a lot of fun and, I think, they will take every opportunity they have to do that. Only time will tell!
