I'm curious as to why you never really hear anything Pre Dookie on the radio stations. I know that its most likely because Post Dookie is when they became well known but you also never really hear any Nimrod except for Good Riddance. Well the radio stations around here sure don't. Sorry just curious.

Isn't that because there's no hit's on either CD? Radio seldom play non-hit songs, unless it's a show focusing on it.

and let's not forget that slappy came out 22 years ago. Come on, it's not Elvis.

I think it's also because they don't contain any single. Radios usually broadcast singles because they're more likely to become hits and bacause they're usually the albums' most easy-listening tracks.

I've heard a few songs from Kerplunk on a local radio station before. It reaches well over 20,000 people. But they're known for playing a lot of underground stuff or things not considered "mainstream". So I guess that doesn't really count.

I think it's because their pre-dookie music has more of an underground sound to it compared to post-dookie music. Heck, it's a miracle to hear Green Day on the radio anymore here -____-

As for the Nimrod thing, I think it's because it's not very radio friendly  I mean, it is, but at the same time it's not y'know?

The singles themselves I'd say are radio friendly, but they're probably considered too poppy for rock stations

------------

When you really think about it, the only singles really played on the radio (around here at least) are:

  1. Basket Case
  2. Longview
  3. Welcome To Paradise
  4. She
  5. When I Come Around
  6. Brain Stew
  7. Good Riddance
  8. American Idiot
  9. Boulevard
  10. Holiday
  11. September

Other than that, most singles don't even make it to airplay. If it's not on AI or Dookie, it's probably not going to get played :pinch:

There's an alternative station in the Bay Area (Live105) that's big on Green Day since they love supporting local music. They've played all of those, plus Hitchen' a Ride, Minority, Jaded, Waiting, and even Jesus of Suburbia. They've also played a few tracks off Kerplunk but those are rare.

I've heard Going to Pasalacqua a few times that I can recall, but that's about it. Radio is typically designed to cater to a mainstream audience, and deep cuts like the stuff off of the first two albums isn't exactly mainstream.

two years ago i heard At The Library on the radio :D

The dj on whatever station we listened to in class used the jangly bit from At the Library (right before the lyrics) as in intro to music blocks.

They're called harmonics.

Y'know, in case you were wondering.

Thanks, that's good to know. Although I'll probably continue to use the term jangly as much as I can. Just cause it's funny.

The radio station in Tucson plays One For the Razor Backs and 2000 Light Years Away and of course Welcome to Paradise. For Nimrod they usually play Nice Guys Finish Last, Hitchin' a Ride and Good Riddance as well.
