fatherotti Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I'm curious as to why you never really hear anything Pre Dookie on the radio stations. I know that its most likely because Post Dookie is when they became well known but you also never really hear any Nimrod except for Good Riddance. Well the radio stations around here sure don't. Sorry just curious.
Sarcasm Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Isn't that because there's no hit's on either CD? Radio seldom play non-hit songs, unless it's a show focusing on it. and let's not forget that slappy came out 22 years ago. Come on, it's not Elvis.
ghesboro Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I think it's also because they don't contain any single. Radios usually broadcast singles because they're more likely to become hits and bacause they're usually the albums' most easy-listening tracks.
Chelsea831 Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I've heard a few songs from Kerplunk on a local radio station before. It reaches well over 20,000 people. But they're known for playing a lot of underground stuff or things not considered "mainstream". So I guess that doesn't really count.
MrsBillieJoe95 Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I think it's because their pre-dookie music has more of an underground sound to it compared to post-dookie music. Heck, it's a miracle to hear Green Day on the radio anymore here -____- As for the Nimrod thing, I think it's because it's not very radio friendly I mean, it is, but at the same time it's not y'know? The singles themselves I'd say are radio friendly, but they're probably considered too poppy for rock stations ------------ When you really think about it, the only singles really played on the radio (around here at least) are:Basket CaseLongviewWelcome To ParadiseSheWhen I Come AroundBrain StewGood RiddanceAmerican IdiotBoulevardHolidaySeptember Other than that, most singles don't even make it to airplay. If it's not on AI or Dookie, it's probably not going to get played

If it's not on AI or Dookie, it's probably not going to get played There's an alternative station in the Bay Area (Live105) that's big on Green Day since they love supporting local music. They've played all of those, plus Hitchen' a Ride, Minority, Jaded, Waiting, and even Jesus of Suburbia. They've also played a few tracks off Kerplunk but those are rare.
Nikkilite Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I really like the radiostation called "AvrilSpiritwebradio" on Itunes they play Green Day like once in hour Nice guys finnish last Before the lobotomy Good riddance Warning Do you know the enemy Last night on earth Wake me up when september ends King for a day/shout Oh love Redundant Waiting Homecoming Poprocks and coke My generation Last of the american girls Jesus of suburbia 21 guns Scumbag Jackass Holiday Coming clean Brain stew/jaded Stuck with me Song of the century 21 century breakdown When its time Thats what ive heard on there, as you see, My generation! Was surprised to hear it Some radiostations do play predookie
eastbayweirdo Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 The only ones I've ever heard on the radio were Longview Welcome To Paradise When I Come Around Basket Case She Geek Stink Breath Brainstew/Jaded Hitchin a Ride Time of Your Life Warning Minority American Idiot JOS (short version) Holiday BOBD St Jimmy She's a Rebel WMUWSE Working Class Hero cover 21 Guns Know Your Enemy Last Of The American Girls East Jesus Nowhere Oh Love They're on all the time. Especially when I'm in grocery stores or department stores. Oh and I heard the leaked version of 21CB once on the radio too. Nothing pre Dookie though.
Guest Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I've heard Going to Pasalacqua a few times that I can recall, but that's about it. Radio is typically designed to cater to a mainstream audience, and deep cuts like the stuff off of the first two albums isn't exactly mainstream.
WorryRock02 Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 two years ago i heard At The Library on the radio
The Snark Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 The dj on whatever station we listened to in class used the jangly bit from At the Library (right before the lyrics) as in intro to music blocks.
green day is Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 The dj on whatever station we listened to in class used the jangly bit from At the Library (right before the lyrics) as in intro to music blocks. They're called harmonics. Y'know, in case you were wondering.
The Snark Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 They're called harmonics. Y'know, in case you were wondering. Thanks, that's good to know. Although I'll probably continue to use the term jangly as much as I can. Just cause it's funny.
TheJedi Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Welcome to Paradise is the only song.. but of course the Dookie version.. so not really. but i often listen to Bay Area rock stations and they love to play Green Day.. but not pre dookie. just Hitchin a Ride and brainstew/Jaded and stuff like that, which is awesome too haha
GreenDayisAmazing Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 The radio station in Tucson plays One For the Razor Backs and 2000 Light Years Away and of course Welcome to Paradise. For Nimrod they usually play Nice Guys Finish Last, Hitchin' a Ride and Good Riddance as well.
