PhillyPunk Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 I finally found a website link that has information regarding the great old Green Day hoax prior to the release of Nimrod. I know i have asked on here before if anyone remembered this and it seemed nobody did or even believed me it happened. So here is a link that explains what happened. Enjoy the read and discuss this lost bit of Green Day History http://www.nationmas.../Green-Day-Hoax It Starts off saying............................ The Green Day Hoax is the name given to an incident that occured in 1997, when it was announced on the official Green Day fan site www.greenday.net that 2 previously unreleased Green Day songs had been "discovered" and added to the site. They were supposed to be old recordings from the time when Green Day had not yet been introduced to the world, very similar to the demo recording of the song "Haushinka" that surfaced years before the release of "Nimrod". The 2 songs were called "Listen Son", and "I Had a Dream", the latter being more or less another version of "Worry Rock" and even got aired on Boston radio. The clips were put up on the website which then received a huge amount of additional hits. The whole thing was even mentioned in the swedish newspaper "Metro". Even though some were suspicious to these recordings, the whole thing didn't unravel until Billie Joe's wife, Adrienne Nesser, contacted the site owner, Jason Holmes, telling him the songs were fake and should imediatly be withdrawn from the site. This of course caused some embarrasment for the owner of the site who obviously had failed to check his sources...................... Can read the rest at the link above or below...................... http://www.nationmas.../Green-Day-Hoax
Todd Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Can you provide a download link for those songs? I wanna hear em.
BringMoreKnives Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Can you provide a download link for those songs? I wanna hear em. This.
Sarcasm Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Isn't the whole point that there isn't any download links?
befgio16 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Is that the same I Had A Dream song that's surfaced on YouTube?
Katarina. Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Haha Funny how it wasn't even confirmed, yet the songs ended up on the website. You'd think mr Holmes would be smarter than that "..but at some point I decided that I wanted to share my song with the Green Day community. I figured that a lot of fans might be interested in hearing this cover" - Daniel (Ignore the fact it's 1997) He could've just posted his song in The Underground. It might've even been posted on GDA. No hoax. This. You know, instead of "this." you can also search for "green day I had a dream" to find out the song's on youtube! How people can believe this sounds like Green Day.. I don't know. Probably the same people who thought the Foxies couldn't be Tre, BJ and Mike.
July21 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 and what about "listen son"? can't find it on youtube!
green day is Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I love I Had a Dream! Not Green Day, but it's still pretty awesome. Anyway, sounds cool. Keep us updated. BTW, a Haushinka demo leaked before nimrod.? Was it one of the ones on the Dookie Demos?
Nuclear Family Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 It was probably one of the Dookie Demo ones, yeah. I like "I Had A Dream" though. And look what I found as well xD http://soundcloud.com/jointaktion/daniel-soxic-time-of-your-life Apparently his band is called Joint Aktion. Some of their songs are pretty good.
ltrbmb17 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Interesting and very funny story! Self-promotion! Bravo! Did this boy really think he sounded like Billie Joe?? here, I'm agree with Katarina. (Thanks for posting the song!). I remeber the same story here on GDC. after some secret show somebody posted his own songs under the name of new GD songs. but he was rapidly unmasked
