desertrose Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Two documentaries on Green Day are expected to complement the release of three albums between late September and the middle of January. Filmmakers Tim Lynch, a producer of "Green Day: Bullet in a Bible," and Tim Wheeler, a co-producer and editor of "The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights," are creating a documentary on the making of the three albums, "Uno!," "Dos!" and "Tre!" A second documentary is being created from vintage footage from their pre-"Dookie" days. Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong tells Billboard.biz that "the two Tims" have shot the band performing in clubs, rehearsing and recording over the last year and a half. "It's not going to be the sitting down, head shot of me going 'we started out blah blah blah,'" Armstrong says. "We wanted to get into lifestyles of rock'n'roll and playing rock n roll and letting the story kind of tell itself rather than create revisionist (history)." The filmmakers will be filming the band as they rehearse before heading to Japan and Europe for a few festival dates. Executives at Green Day's label, Warner Bros. Records, hope the making-of film will be ready by early next year to possibly premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Green Day is also reuniting with director Sam Bayer who shot several of the band's videos, among them "Jesus of Suburbia." The band has already issued a couple of trailers for the albums that feature instrumental versions of two of the albums' tracks. The first Green Day single from the three albums, "Oh Love," will be released July 16; "Uno!" comes out Sept. 25. http://www.billboard...007532552.story
Sweet Armataged Chump Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 oh my fucking god. Thanks a whole lot for posting. This is fucking awesome.
Alan86 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Wow they are teaming up with Sam Bayer again. I presume they mean for the new music videos.

Alan86 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 http://www.sundance.org/festival/info/ That sundance film festival is really early next year. It starts on 17th of January. Thats just 2 days after TRE comes out, that they hope to premier the documentary
Silent Duck Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I hope the pre Dookie documentary looks like one of those old Micky Mouse cartoons! Good news to hear they're teaming up with Sam Bayer again, even if he is a bit of a dick!
Raven93 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Will we ever get the documentary in our hands after it shows at the film festival ?
Laura! Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Will we ever get the documentary in our hands after it shows at the film festival ? I'm sure there will be a DVD release. Maybe even a bundle with the trilogy.
PaulS Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Great to finally get confirmation that they really are making a documentary; when we only had the Rolling Stone story to go on, it could so easily have just been an old idea that never went anywhere. Now it's real and, fuck, we're getting two of the things! Had there been any mention of this pre-Dookie footage before? Given the band hadn't yet started their latter-day habit of filming everything, I'm worried it will consist largely of footage we've already seen on YouTube and other places. Not that more Green Day is ever a bad thing, but is there anything left to say about the early days? Surely not enough for its own standalone documentary. The one for the trilogy is a far more enticing prospect: from the genesis of the records, right through to their triumphant return to the stage. Can't wait! As for Sam Bayer, I have mixed feelings. Other than Know Your Enemy, I enjoyed all the 21CB videos, and thought the title track was particularly inventive. Marc Webb also had a far better grip on how to handle characters than Bayer, whose attempts in both WMUWSE and Jesus of Suburbia were hugelu embarrassing. The dialogue was awful, and the acting even more so. Go back now and watch the scenes with Evan and Jamie, and tell me that isn't absolutely cringe-worthy, hamfisted nonsense. On the other hand, when he's given a more straightforward song to tackle - as with American Idiot itself - Bayer is capable of delivering a great video. Hell, I think AI is perhaps Green Day's best. There's a lot of energy to the edit, which is a great match for the song. Given the apparent lighter subject matter of the trilogy, I hope he'll be tempted away from his more overblown tenancies, and stick to the kind of editing we saw with Holiday and, to a lesser extent, Bullet in a Bible: more rock n' roll, less subtitled crying in a blossoming orchard.
Annie, get your gun Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 OMFG!!! 2 DOCUMENTARIES, SAM BAYER DIRECTING THE VIDEO/S... It's too much excitement right now!!!!!!!!!!! but I can handle it!
WhiteTim Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 @PaulS any proof that Green Day werent filming pre dookie? Maybe not professionally but could always been filming with regular cameras i know alot of groups who do that...
alaniluau Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Brilliant news! The boys are really taking over, aren't they? And welcome back Mr. Bayer.

Heather. Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 @PaulS any proof that Green Day werent filming pre dookie? Maybe not professionally but could always been filming with regular cameras i know alot of groups who do that... In some of the Wigan den fan footage from like 1992, you can see a guy with a fairly decent camera on stage with them... maybe they've been more dedicated to filming than we've given them credit for. Here's hoping!
