We have a thread to talk about the video announcement of the new album, people have been talking about the sound of the preview song, but I wanted to get your thoughts just on the album cover alone. What do you guys think of it? Do you like it? How do you think it compares to other Green Day covers?
Sixtrix Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I am looking for the option "not sure yet" Because I start to like it more, but every time I see the cover I slip back to liking it maybe Ah what the hell, I'll vote for yes It's something completely different from their past album covers, and that should be a good thing. They start off a new decade with something challenging, fun and fresh. And this is the perfect cover for it.

WestboundSign! Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 When I saw it for the first time, I honestly was a little confused. I liked the colors because they reminded me of a Misfits t-shirt. (Even though I hate pink, but it's not that pink, so it should be fine.) But the rest? All in all? I actually didn't know what to think. But the more I looked at it, the more I started to like it. It somehow looks so different and that seriously makes it cool. And now that I've already looked at it for about hundred times, I actually have to say that I adore it. I heard a lot of people saying the same so it might just take some time to get used to and start to like this sort of cover. Just the way it went with some songs I like So... after all: YES!

And the cover is not something I was expecting. But watching the trailer and hearing the bit of the new song, it kind of makes me realize that the cover is perfect for this concept. But there's something about the color combination that makes it difficult for me to fully say that I really like it. *edit* but then again. when I see very boring covers, like the cover art for the new upcoming Offspring album, Green Day's cover for Uno! looks very playful and it's challenging my eyes in a weird way..

With AI and 21CB they had a message they wanted to spread to the masses, for that message to be taken seriously they had to brand themselves as a more serious band than before, and they did. This shows that they really just want to go back to being all about crazy fun awesomeness, and I'm ready

I do like the fact he now has laser eyes to match his laser titties though. It'll stand out in the shops I suppose, which is probably what they were going for. As long as they don't accidentally stock it in the porn section.
Elena Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 well, when i first saw the cover i didn't know whether i should like it or not...i thought it was extremely funny but on the same time i was a bit disappointed that they didn't have any great artwork on the cover and just Billie on there and also the colors didn't fit together for me, but now i totally love it...it's something completely new and fresh, it's simple but not boring, idk...i think when you first see the cover you totally underestimate it and think there's absolutely no meaning and it really isn't good, but after some time you start to love it...usually i always either like something from the first moment on or i'll always hate it, but here i first didn't like it and now i do ..it's magical, ya know? ...btw do you think that uno is meant to be a ya know pun?...i mean now that Billie is even on the cover

spark in the night Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I voted Bleh because I'm still not sure if I like it. Maybe it's because of my profession, but I really REALLY focus on the album art. It needs to visually represent the music. And if it doesn't, then it just doesn't work for me. Nimrod and American Idiot are my favorite album artworks out of all GD albums, because they have a "system" Everything about the cover art, cd art, inside jacket artwork, special edition books, whatever, gives a "look" to their songs. It matches the tone, emotions, stories, and style of the songs. It creates a cohesive, complete masterpiece of sound and brand. With the release of this cover artwork, I'll be honest. I didn't like it upon first seeing it. It looks cheesy, and when I look at the lime green and hot pink, I think of cheesy electronic 80s pop songs. But then I get confused by the X's. Because now it reminds me of the hardcore punk albums of 70s/80s. And then, when I hear the trailer, I get even more confused because the music sounded so amazing. IN MY OPINION, the excerpt of music in the trailer and the album artwork do not match. (as of yet) Once I get to listen to the entire album, I will either change my mind and believe, yes this artwork reflects the style of music on its album; or my opinion will remain the same and I will be disappointed. I felt the same way about 21CB when that first came out. Couldn't stand the typeface that was used on 21CB. But after listening to the album, I realized that it was a good match for its songs and I didn't dislike it as much. So, we'll see.
elisa Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 gotta say, i would have never expected anything like that! i like it. it's colorful and funny and it really makes you really want to listen to the record. it sends out good vibes. i can't wait to see the other two covers, all three next to each other must be ever better. First thing I thought of when I saw the cover haha same and i don't even like watermelons

It seems like it will be an album that will be fun to listen to, something party-type ! It gave me creeps when I first saw it, I was like Whoa what is that!? But its an eye-catcher, it will be the first thing someone will notice while walking through a music store.

insomniax Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 When I first saw the cover I loved it, but I think it was more of a "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" excited love. Today I'm not really sure, I like it but it's very different from their previous covers.

Like, the artwork for 21st CB was massive, I don't expect them to do something like that for every album, but this one kinda looks like a semi-talented photoshop user made it. On the other hand, there's a really punk-ish vibe about it that I like a lot.

Well, they also fucked all the rules before, but now they completely gone mad. For gods sake, what band will name their album "Awesome as fuck"?! Green day will And now three (!!!) albums, surprise shows, studio videos that didn't make any sense, and now this cover. Yes, they can do it. They can put their huge photos in mad colors on the album cover and noone will say that this is stupid, because THEY ARE Green Day. Not some lame band noone knows about.
Florence Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I saw it I love it. The cover is different from all previous GD album covers. The combination of pink & green is just great! Also, I love the grungy effects. I have to admit I was a bit surprised when I saw the it for the first time, because I didn't expect BJ to be on the cover. The crossed out eyes reminds me of the pink drunk bunny from AAF.
