MrsBillieJoe95 Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 AP's latest issue did a feature of "Songs you've never heard" (I believe that's what it's called) and Cigarettes and Valentines was included in it I didn't buy the magazines, so I don't have scans, but I typed up the article on my phone, so here it is! "We've heard the legend: Green Day intended to follow up 2000's Warning by recording 20 or so speedy, 1-2-fuck you songs for an album called 'Cigarettes and Valentines'. But before they completed the album, the master tapes went missing from Studio 880, the Oakland, California facility where they were working. Most reports use the word 'stolen' to describe what happened to the tapes, but in the Marc Spitz 2006 book "Nobody Likes You: Inside the Turbulent Life, Times, and Music of Green Day', 880 owner John Lucasey denies this happening, citing his studio's extensive security measures. Spitz's book also reports that during the making of this record, the personal dynamic between the band members was at its most tense- which leads many GD fans to posit the tapes disappearance as an inside job. If you think that's a far fetched notion, consider that despite the internet's voracious dig-me-look-what-I've-got sharing culture, the missing album still hasn't leaked onto the World Wide Web- and the band *still* don't want to talk about it. The only song to surface has been a version of the title track, found on their 2011 live album Awesome as Fuck" -Alternative Press
Fuzz Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Nice. Thanks for sharing that. It'd be great if we could get a scan to put up on GDA. It's nice to see someone do a bit of homework about the topic, unlike most places that just throw the headline in and usually flub up the rest.
