Khris Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 http://www.cracked.com/article_19848_7-famous-musicians-who-stole-some-their-biggest-hits.html?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=fanpage&utm_campaign=new+article&wa_ibsrc=fanpage It doesn't but me too much but i just hope that they don't rehash as much as they did in 21st Century Breakdown Some of the new songs i've heard from the secret shows sound like older songs unfortunately, but hey we're getting 3 albums worth of new material so we'll have to wait and see how they sound. I'm just sure that Green Day is more creative than to just conveniently use similar melodies/chord progressions in their songs.
Dookie93 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Not sure if making fun of Green Day or trying to be funny..
icyfire34 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 i think i agree with you, i never actually heard of the first band they showed on there, and I think green day would never actually steel hits like that! There are many artist who do that, like Lady Gaga's born this way sound a lot like Madonna's "Express yourself", and Katy Perry's song California Gurls sound a lot like this song by the Ramelskin of something, search i if you want. there are many songs out there, and I bet a lot of them do sound the same, Rebel girl by Bikini Kill sounds a like the beginning of Know your enemy by Green Day.
Khris Posted May 30, 2012 Author Posted May 30, 2012 haha i know about the intro drumline of Bikini Kill. You can only do so much with punk and pop music that they will eventually sound the same at one point. The big ones that bother me in terms of Green Days music is the choruses of Church on Sunday and The Static Age, the intro of 21 Guns being Holiday at a lower key, Peacemaker/Misery. There was one new song that sounds like Maria but i forgot what that was and i believe the pre-chorus of Carpe Diem sounded a lot like Suffocate. I don't know why it bugs me I'm just sure there are amazing original stuff in there that we have yet to hear.
captain peroxide Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Anyone who knows anything about music will know that coincidences like this are inevitable. American Idiot is not a complicated riff, and the chord progressions to the songs by Oasis and The Kinks are really common.
The Grohl Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 i think i agree with you, i never actually heard of the first band they showed on there, and I think green day would never actually steel hits like that! There are many artist who do that, like Lady Gaga's born this way sound a lot like Madonna's "Inspiring" or something like that, and Katy Perry's song California Gurls sound a lot like this song by the Ramelskin of something, search i if you want. there are many songs out there, and I bet a lot of them do sound the same, Rebel Kill by Bikini Kill sounds a like the beginning of Know your enemy by Green Day. oh just remembered, that song by madonna was called express yourself Yeah a lot of artists do that sort of thing especially Lady Gaga with Madonna yet they dont get called out so I dont know why this dude is picking on Green Day. Hell Vanilla Ice did it to Queen and David Bowie, so I think the person who wrote the article just doesn't like Green Day and needs to find something that's wrong with the band. So whatever, it doesn't really bother me. It just seems sort of normal in the music world.
Mar Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I don't mean to sound like a crazy fan in trying to defend the band, but reading the piece about them, it sounds like a pressed former fan who's still bitter that they're not still unknowns at Gilman or making Dookie ten times over.
24HrRevengeTherapy Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Honestly, there are rather striking similarities between "Doublewhiskeycokenoice" by Dillinger Four and "American Idiot" by Green Day. I picked up on that far before I even read this article. It's not necessarily a bad thing as there are only so many riffs to go around, but yeah. I also noticed similarities between "Boxcar" by Jawbreaker and "She's a Rebel" by Green Day of course, heh. Again, not a bad thing, just sayin'. i think i agree with you, i never actually heard of the first band they showed on there, and I think green day would never actually steel hits like that! Gasp! You must listen to Midwestern Songs of the Americas. It's fantastic! And Pinhead Gunpowder did a split with Dillinger Four once, btw, haha.
bollard_11 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Similarities are always going to happen especially given the limited number of chords there are. There is this perception around here (and of course is to be expected on any fan site dedicated to a single band) that Green Day are godlike and would never steal anything. But the truth is this is the modern music era, many bands and artists take influence from riffs and songs they have heard and put their own spin on it. What is the point in throwing a shitfit or getting all defensive when someone just points out the obvious similarities.
greendaytodeathandback Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOlDewpCfZQ And their point is.....?
La's Letterbomb Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 So much Green Day hate in the comments! Obviously everybody doesnt like them and I honestly dont mind I love them and I have my reasons but comments like this are just a step too far.. ''greenday suck hair ass and balls. if you like greengay you should consider suicide. '' Hmm.. now I see what its like to be a Bieber fan..
