petros Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I can't believe it's been 3 years since it was released back in 2009. Let's all share our love on that great record which in my opinion is not the best but a really really great album by Green Day. My favorite song of the album in a great unofficial video: [media=]
Cris. Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Hahahaha. That is the one song in the album I don't like, and along with Rest, the only two songs by Green Day that I absolutelly don't care for. Comes to show: to each one their own, and no band can ever please all of their fans. 21st Century Breakdown is one of my favourite Green Day albums. One of my favourite songs from the album, and my favourite official Green Day video of all time (which by the way came out on the date of my birthday): My favourite song from the album is probably Peacemaker (it varies depending on my mood, but it usually always goes back to Peacemaker ). Which they never play live! (It''s like Give Me Novacaine all over again, which is also why I'm optimist about eventually hearing it live).
bollard_11 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Cant believe its been 3 years since I got my drivers license!!
solongfromthestars Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Wow... I can't believe it's 3 years already! The main reason this album is so special to me is because I know a lot of people don't agree, but the story is amazing. Gloria and even Christian come across as such strong, clear, relatable characters and when 21CB first came out, as a sick young girl struggling with a dark past I found hope and inspiration again in how I pictured Gloria. It really changed my life. Even now when I listen to it I still hear this great story, that can differ depending on someone's individual interpretation or even your mood. Also, as a writer I so admire the ability to sow a real story into your lyrics and music, and bring it across in such an awesome way with each song having its own personality. The album art fits so well and inspired me to get into graffiti art. You can even play it and fuck the concept, just rock the fuck out because it's eargasmic. Sure, there's songs that aren't my favourites or that are a little over-produced... but it's still a masterpiece, a jumbled mixture of hope, love and devastation in the modern world. Done like a badass. And the anniversary of us getting engaged comes the day before 21CB. Yay. I'm sorry if that was just senseless rambling, which it probably was. I should be asleep.
beejeezee Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Happy anniversary to my favorite Green Day album!!! I know many, many, many people hate on 21st Century Breakdown; So much more than Warning. But I don't really care; in my eyes, and ears, 21st Century Breakdown is a simply amazing album. Every song is so diverse and easy to relate to. Explaining my frustration, love, angst, and compassion for the current generation. This album has always been the most special and personally for me. For one; one of the songs of this album, 21 Guns, was the first song that really made me love Green Day. I later discovered that green Day would truly be my passion after I bought the album, my second Green day album after Dookie. The music spoke to me in ways none other had. It addressed the problems I was facing in life at the time. Feeling desperate, yet hopeless; Nowhere to run and no one to go to. 21st Century Breakdown pulled me out of a spiraling depression. Even now, two years later. It still speaks to me like no other album can. Besides that the album came out at a time that is very personal to me. My birthday. 21st Century Breakdown came out exactly two days before my birthday. Besides loving the music in general, having the emotional attachment to it; what kid doesn't like things that came out around their birthday? Not only is it my birthday, but it also came out in the same month as both my mom and my little brother; both of whom are very special people in my life. Even though it gets a lot of hate from fans for being so over-produced as they say, and not as good as Green Day could be. I always thought it was a fucking fantastic example of just how badass the guys are; and how musically talented Mr. Billie Joe Armstrong really is. Fantastic acapella pieces, musical ballads, spicy twists, and a few songs with the memoriable demented sound of The Misfits. In all this is personally one of Green Day's most bad ass mother fucking albums. And my personally favorites of the album, besides Restless Heart Syndrome since it was already mentioned, hold the hate please:
Florence Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Happy Birthday, 21st Century Breakdown! You're one of my fave GD albums. <3
petros Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 That version of Last Night On Earth is awesome compared to the recorded one which makes the song sound weird and boring.
Clayish Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Unreal. Most pumped I've ever been for an album, didn't listen to any of the leaks. Good shit.
kellista Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I love 21st Century Breakdown. It's part of the reason I got into Green Day. I found them like a week before the album came out and listened to it on the MTV leak. Oh and how can you people hate Restless Heart Syndrome?? It's one of my favorites!
Sixtrix Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Man I remember putting that cd in my cd player for the first time, lying in my bed and listening to the entire thing from front to back and then again and just not getting enough of it. Can't believe it's been 3 whole years since that day. Probably not one of my most favorite Green Day album, but I still enjoy it very much. I just filled up my new Ipod nano and 21st CB was one of the first albums I put on it. Hell yeah
petros Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 I remember when I got that album I was in the first year of high school and now I'm in college Things have changed so much since I bought it but it seems like it was yesterday I went to the store to buy it and then listened to it for the first time while reading the lyrics from the booklet...
gloria123 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 i feel so old! when this album came out i was first becoming a green day fan. at the time i hadn't listened to the album but i only knew of 21 guns so i listened to it over and over till almost july, when i could get my hands on a copy. (i was upstate and the only store was a walmart, which at the time i didn't know refused to sell 21CB so i would look for it everytime!) i feel like i have some sort of connection to the album because of that Happy Birthday 21st Century Breakdown!!
alaniluau Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 My, I cherish this album. When 21st Century Breakdown came out, I was a new Green Day fan falling in love with music for the first time. This album was my soundtrack as I began to grow into myself and figure what I wanted out of life. The subsequent tour marked the beginning of my life as a concert junkie. During the 2010 leg in particular, the boys reached a point in their career that, dare I say, surpassed anything they'd experienced before. I've developed a sizable music collection, but this album will forever be a little more special than any other.
Heather. Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I was a freshman in college when this came out, and now I'm graduating this Sunday :'( Anyone else feel like it's been much longer than 3 years? I remember crying. Though it probably ranks 4th or 5th on my list of favorite GD albums, it's still an admirable piece of art.
Alan86 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Great album Highlights: Murder City, Static age, 21st CB and East Jesus Nowhere. Unfortunately this album also has 2 songs that I don't care for at all with Last of the American Girls and See the light, though I do like the lyrics to "see the light" when I just read them.
Cris. Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Wow... I can't believe it's 3 years already! Done like a badass. Amen to all that. No nonsense at all! For me American Idiot was the album I could relate to like the fucked up teenager I was at the time 21st Century Breakdown was the album I could relate to on a social level, coming from a country that politicians have screwed over and over again, and I do think 21st Century Breakdown is a much much more politics-soaked opera than AI ever was (even if it had songs that mde such a strong statement as American Idiot and Holiday), so it was sooooo easy for me to relate to that album on that level. And as a writer I also really admire a lot how he weaved this amazing story with such kick ass lyrics, and put them into some awesome melodies. I have no criticism for this album, really. I don't feel that being over produced was something actually bad for the album, it blends in alright for it is such a Broadway-like sort of album (even more so than American Idiot, IMO). And to whoever posted them above, I love both Static Age and Murder City.
Bastard of 1967 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I can't believe it's been 3 years since it was released back in 2009. Let's all share our love on that great record which in my opinion is not the best but a really really great album by Green Day. 21st CB -- a mature album written by a mature band that helps the old farts like myself make some semblance of sense out of a really, really fucked up world. It doesn't tell us how to fix the problems, but says that no fix is possible until you first identify what those problems are -- and then figure out where your own responsibility for causing them lies. Musically, it's a good effort and takes Green Day to places they hadn't gone before. Lyrically and artistically, it's a goddamn masterpiece. And now, 3 years later, the next album (or SET of albums!) is almost ready to drop....and it's time for Green Day to go on tour again.
The Grohl Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I was still in college when it came out. I skipped class so I could go to the mall to buy the CD! And when I listened to it I was so happy and proud for the band because they managed to make a successful follow up to American Idiot. I fell in love with every song and listened to it all the time to learn all of the lyrics. It's probably not my favorite Green Day album, but it's damn good. And I remember the hype surrounding it and how for 3 months you couldn't turn on the TV without seeing the band. It was great! I love how every time GD releases something they become the biggest band in the world!
Mar Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Crazy; I was watching Will Ferrell host SNL the other night (nearly three years to the day of his last hosting gig) and thought to myself how much better the musical guest was the last time. It's weird; that was the night I kind of rediscovered my love for them since I loved their 21 Guns performance, which led to going to their concert and then three years and counting on here. Happy birthday, 21CB!
BJA TC MD Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Happy birthday to the album that got me into Green Day
Olya Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Happy Birthday "21st Century Breakdown"!!! I love this album! My favorite songs "East Jesus Nowhere", "Restless Heart Syndrome", "Before The Lobotomy" & "?ViVa La Gloria? (Little Girl)".
Annie, get your gun Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Happy Birthday 21st Century Breakdown!!! I'll never forget the day I went for you at the record store ♥ You made -and still make me- SO happy!!!
Whatsinaname Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I bought this CD three years ago and it changed my life forever. I wasn't a huge Green Day but this CD made we WAKE UP! Thank you Green Day! "Last of the American Girls" is me!
TheJesusOfSuburbiaIsALie Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 21st Century Breakdown, the first 'official' Green Day CD I ever bought! I have to say, I didn't really like all of the songs the first time I listened to the album. The one song that really caught my eye was East Jesus Nowhere. I remember, I used to come back from school and listen to this everyday day for almost a month. One of the CDs that I will never regret buying
