Why won't Green Day ever do FULL concert DVDs?

In my opinion it's pretty annoying that Green Day doesn't ever do full concert DVDs...

Like Bullet In a Bible wasn't all the tracks from the concert and Awesome As F*** wasn't all the tracks from the concert either.

Does anyone know why Green Day won't ever do full concert DVDs?

In this topic you can also discuss this matter...

Like, because, like, you'd have to have like, 4 DVDs, like

Because all their awesomeness must be taken in small doses, spaced up by short interviews or screaming crowds.

I don't really care about that anyway. I go to Green Day shows to see the whole thing :happy: That's all that matters to me.

Y'know, well, yeah, y'know..

Ohhh, right. I get it.

But that would've actually worked...pretty much.

Concert DVD1, DVD2, DVD3 and DVD4 all in one box.

In fact, that would've been pretty awesome...

It's simple, when you watch the entire concert on DVD it still won't give the same experience you'd have when you would have been there to see them play live.

So there's no reason to make the DVD even more expensive by spreading the entire concert over multiple DVD's, like Matt said, when it gives the same effect, if not stronger, in a shorter form.

They made BIAB more appropriate for DVD by showing mostly the highlights of the show and combined both cd and DVD in one box. Not really something to be complaining about. It's simply marketing and common sense I think.

Yeah, would be cool if you just had to download, but people who buy DVD's would be annoyed by the price...anyways would be coolio to have an extended version with 4 DVDs xD Or a collector's edition! I'd love to get BIAB now but sure it's not in stores anymore and idk the price :(

Yeah for BIAB it was mainly a combination of conserving disc space because remember this was before Blu Ray, the cover songs and lastly royalties toward the fans.

Disc space was a concern because they wanted to fit just the right amount of interview and concert without making it 2 discs because it probably would have come out more expensive to purchase. Homecoming would have been a direct culprit here because it would have made the dvd a lot longer what with JOS already on it. 2 Cover songs were played including Knowledge and We are the Champions, they probably didn't wanna fit the bill to use them or weren't given the rights to use them. Speaking of Knowledge it was pretty long too because of the fan interaction parts and oh yea they would had to have paid each of those fans to use their likenesses for every copy of the DVD the band sold.....wayyyy to much money. Green Day Tone and the other fans interviewed don't count because the band was actually able to reach them for them for release forms, whereas the fans during Knowledge were random fans that couldn't possibly have been reached after the show was over.

I guess as well as what everyone else has said there's always going to be one song (or just some banter) they might not be completely happy with to put on a DVD or whatever. Not that we'd mind but yeah. And obviously if the awesomeness was all included in one case you'd explode.

All Green Day DVDs and CDs are in store since the day they are released, like every other band's studio works, don't worry  The price is around 10€

I still see BIAB all the time  Check used movies and used music stores, i'm sure you'll find it there.

I would love to see just a concert with no breaks in. The gaps between songs kill the atmosphere and don't give you the full impression of what Green Day are like live.

Would it be too much to ask for the recordings from the 21st CB tour at every venue? At Manchester they only featured Know Your Enemy and I would definately pay for a recording of the whole concert with no breaks of a relatively good quality. They could even just use the stuff they put on the big screens as 'footage' and it would be pretty good. I don't think it would take much editing and would be a really nice thing for fans to own. They said they recorded every song from each concert and I think most of the work has already been done live in terms of footage, so why not?

However both 'Bullet in a Bible' and 'Awesome as Fuck' are great in their own right. Can understand why 'Bullet in a Bible' had to be shorter back in the day!

So,inc ase I wanted to I could go and buy Nimrod or even 1039 Smoothed Out/Slappy Hours? And that's for the price even in € :D

I get why they don't do it (won't fit on the disc, most people wouldn't wanna watch it if it was that long etc), but I still wish they would because I would enjoy it immensely. I love watching the awesome full DVDs of the O2 and Wembley Stadium shows from the 21st CB tour that 'Xabulous' put together from youtube footage, and I've enjoyed watching a ton of random old shows in full on youtube over the years. A professionally done one would be amazing.

Solution: put out a DVD of the whole Foxboro show they filmed in London. No one would get bored watching that

Sure you can, I've got the whole Green Day discography on CD and even 1000 Hours, 39/Smooth, Slappy and Dookie on vinyl! :D

Ok, now stop with this conversation, 'cause we're a bit off topic here ;)

because, without interviews, it'll last like 3 hours and anyway it won't be fair on the people that played about 50 dollars that a guy can wacth that concert anytime for 20, imo.

You can't release a live album with 3-4 DVDs due to the price. Warner Bros. can't sell a DVD that contains such a big amount of content for the typical 15€. They would have to increase the price up to 30€... The result? Even worse sales figures...

A vicious circle :P

I actually hate this thing that they don't ever release full concerts. Really! I always thought that. Especially for Awesome as Fuck. Okay, the concerts were a bit long to a DVD, but why not?

Just watch the Foo Fighters at Wembley: 18 songs. They cut 2 songs, but if you watch the DVD you have the feeling that that's the full concert because it really looks like. I don't have that feeling with Awesome as fuck. It's such a great dvd, but it looks more like a compilation of edited videos than a documentary about the concert.

Green Day is a perfect live band, but I guess they don't know how to use it in its fullness.

Actually when I thought of it, a Green Day concert would do on 2 discs (about 100 minutes on each one).

I also wanted to say...

you don't get the atmosphere or the live experience from a DVD that you do from being at the show.

...I agree with what you said, even though I think loads and loads and loads of people really weren't lucky enough to see the live show and really want to see the full show, not just the highlights.

I get why they don't do it (won't fit on the disc, most people wouldn't wanna watch it if it was that long etc), but I still wish they would because I would enjoy it immensely.

Me too.

Fine, then 3 DVDs. But not 4. HA!

They should make a DVD or maybe a TV Marathon for them, like "5 Hours of Green Day!" and they played then ALL of their songs ever! That way fans would be satisfied, they would win money if they made a concert/DVD for it and us fans would get a live version for every single song!

I missed seeing GD on tour in 2005 =(. I remember watching Bullet in a Bible when it came out I thought it was so cool. My sisters and I would just around my room like we were there. I was surprised to see how AMAZING they really are when I saw them in 2009.

Posted

They are amazing and always will be one of (if not the) best live bands ever, but like everyone is saying, it would just be too long.

Plus wouldn't you miss the little bits in-between? I know I definitely would
