Ever wonder if Al Sobrante regrets leaving the band for college?

Al Sobrante, back when Green Day first released its first album, was the drummer. He left the band to go to college, but never returned. Tre was meant to be a temporary replacement, but ended up staying with the band. Tell me what you think!

Doubt it. If I remember correctly from the Cometbus issue with Green Day, he doesn't want anything to do with them, he even tears up his royalty checks haha.

i would so keep the money  and at least they are nice enough to send him that

I have always wondered that. I'm kinda glad he left because I love Tre' Cool he's so awesome, crazy, and funny and I can't imagine Green Day without him. Who knows if they would even be as big a band without Tre'. Wow I never knew he tore up the checks.

Seriously?

Dude.

I get the impression he's not a Green Day fan. Probably judged them for going pro. Probably jealous. Probably has gotten over it by now, though.

Yeah from what I once read in an interview with Billie, John formed the band or claimed to have formed the band or something? He was a bit older than Billie and Mike so I think he considered himself to be a leader, trying to arrange gigs and stuff.

He once left the band temporarily so Tre replaced him during that time. Tre practiced with the band and just when they were going to play a show opening for Bad Religion, John returns and decides to play the drums during that show.

Billie felt really guilty towards Tre.

Then John thought he would be better off to form another band after he left Green Day, and what I understood from that interview with Billie was that John had a negative attitude towards the guys. Billie also added that, if John would never had left the band Billie would never had thrown him out of the band. But he was happy that John left eventually.

He probably is jealous he probably rips the check up to pretend not to be, but seriously he left a band that he probably thought would never go far. Now Green Day is one of the biggest rock bands in the world most people know who they are or heard of at least one song. They play for thousands of people every night on tours, sell so much stuff, have tons of crazy fans who adore them. Billie got Adie and now they are happily married with kids. They have a Broadway music and are going to have a movie. They have lots of money and nice stuff and a rockband game. They have Fan sites they win big awards and go red carpet events, Billie has been on TV shows, GD has been on TV and radio station around the world play their music, their music is in movies and TV shows, they have books and DVD‘s. He’s probably jealous that Billie was the front man. GD has been a band for a while and still are very popular. GD is the best band ever! I know if it were me and I left I would be jealous.

Ohh yeah and Tre’ can beat the shit out of the drums and play the guitar!!! =D

If you read that one interview they did back when he was in the band, he didn't seem as though he cared that much to be honest. He called green day 'gilman easy listening' and sounded pretty patronising. And he was the one who wrote the letter in the liner notes for 39 Smooth, saying they'd never go to a major, without telling Mike and Billie about it.

So I doubt he's that bothered to be honest. The only thing that could probably make him a bit bitter is that his old band mates who he treated like kids are multi millionaires now, but then if he really doesn't cash his cheques I doubt it bothers him.

I remember reading somewhere that John was in the Good Riddance video, but I didn't see anyone that looks like him.

I get the impression that he's bitter. He's a recluse and (apparently) doesn't do interviews. If he doesn'r cash his royalty checks, that tells you something right there.

I don't remember where I read it, but I heard that John wasn't angry with the band and was pretty content playing in other bands and that he didn't regret it? Although, from what you guys are saying, he sounds pretty angry about it...

I'm pretty sure he's just tired of people wondering and assuming that he must feel some sort of resentment towards the band for their fame. Because fame and success is everything. Obviously. Followed up with a generous amount of not giving it any thought at all.

Tre's a dick, by the way, but I'm still glad he's the drummer.
