VisionsofGreenDay115 Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Green Day usually wore pants, maybe shorts, and a t-shirt to showcase their powerful work in the years before Dookie. I can recall a couple time they wore a button down with pants during and after Dookie. But once they released American Idiot, they seemed to have not only made their music to the best of their ability, but their appearance as well. My question is, do you like what they're doing now? Wearing simply band-tee's and pants, or would you prefer seeing them dress up and make themselves look fierce with makeup and new and improved button-down's. I can tell you I love what they did with themselves when American Idiot came out. They went on the right path to trying something new, something they wanted to do, and frankly it worked; for about 6 years and running. Now, we have seen them take the stages of the small bars with just a simple band-tee and pants. I dont know what to think. I prefer both. I like the rock n' roll look they're going for, but if they do change, I would also miss the glamour of American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, just because American Idiot is where my Green Day life started. The dressing up and makeup really gives off the feeling like they're actually performing rather than just playing music. Hey, they didnt create two rock-opera's for just the music right? Thats what I'm used to though. But whatever Green Day decides, I'm all for it. I will always love them, just like I know every other one of you will Now, tell me what you think, which do you prefer?
solongfromthestars Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 To be honest I really don't care. I've never thought they were annoying to look at or anything, the only thing I'm sick of seeing is that AI plain black shirt and red tie but that's more because we've seen it so often
Alan86 Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 People seem to overlook that Billie wore the plain black shirt and red tie back as far as 1994 at Woodstock and that may not be the only time he wore that on that tour. Maybe it's forgotten cause he was also covered in mud But in general I really don't care what they look like as long as the music still sounds good.
SmidtsPie° Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 ^ yes! But yeah.. I really don't care, I think they look good no matter what
Hermione Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I don't really think there's any difference between American Idiot times and now in terms of their appearance. During AI they started getting dressed up for shows and important events - but during their time off they still wore t shirts and jeans and looked scruffy. It's the same now - at big proper shows and events they'll get dressed up, but at informal events and during their time off they don't. The secret/impromptu shows are informal events and part of their time off that's all. Have to wait until they put the next album out to know for sure but so far I don't think their fashion sense hasn't changed much (aside from a bit more variety!). I think their appearance has always been a big part of their appeal and it's evolved naturally over the years. They had a "look" during Dookie times too, spending time dyeing your hair blue and putting on some cool punky clothes is just as much deliberately putting together a trendy look as putting some eyeliner and a smart suit on. Even the toned down clothes they wore during Warning times were trendy at the time and would have helped make people think they were cool since they were wearing the same clothes as them. Image is part of every band and there's nothing wrong with it. Totally agree about what they did with American Idiot! I think as they were getting older they wanted to change the way they dressed anyway (surely thinking "oh no we better keep wearing jeans and t shirts like our teenage fans so they'll still like us" would've been a much more calculated and 'fake' move). And it really fit so perfectly with the new music and with the much more theatrical and spectacular shows. If you watch shows from the Pop Disaster tour they were actually very similar to AI shows but it looks like they were just rehearsing or something in comparison . Their 'new look' fits the new shows just right.
Jaymee!! Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I don't care what they wear, as long as I one day get to see the denim jacket in person.
classof12 Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Who cares about fashion? I mean, imo they can get on the stage naked if they want to, as long as they keep playing good music
Katarina. Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I prefer the music. Don't care about what they wear
Isabel Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I think they've had a 'look' ever since Warning. There was definitely a consistency with 21st Century Breakdown, similar to American Idiot when it came to touring....except 21st Century Breakdown was varied a bit more at least.
WestboundSign! Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Their music is awesome and so important for me, that I don't really care about what they're wearing. I actually loved their appearance back in the Dookie days.. but I also love how they were dressed on the AI and the 21st CB tour. As it was said before, their new look fits their new shows just perfectly. Still: Whatever they are wearing and whatever they will wear on their next tour - I don't care. The music is what counts..
VisionsofGreenDay115 Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Naked ftw. that made me laugh haha I also agree with everybody, as look as they're creating their music, Im happy
Brigister Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 It's not the thing that matters the most, but they look so unnatural with their latest suits or whatever you call that. I loved how simple they used to be, back in the Dookie era.

I loved how simple they used to be, back in the Dookie era. I think their appearance was pretty elaborate during the Dookie era compared to before it or during Nimrod and Warning. Dyeing your hair blue, getting your nose pierced and customizing clothes by writing stupid on them and stuff takes just as much time and thought as straightening your hair, putting some eyeliner on and picking out a nice shirt . Both are trendy images, and in both eras people were attracted to the band and thought they were cool because of their image and looks. Neither is any more unnatural than the other. Totally understand liking one more than the other though , that's just personal preference.

I don't know, you may be right actually, but I feel like their suits now are more like something that attracts a lot of scene kids and fangirlies... I'd rather see them dressed how they were in Hybrid Moments video I preferred their older clothing style anyways, from their beginning until when they started wearing always makeup (yeah I know they wore it sometimes also in kerplunk era, but not as often). Apart from all of this:1) for personal taste I like better their old look,2) I actually don't care that much
VisionsofGreenDay115 Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 yeah i can recall seeing videos of them performing Dookie when they had the famous blue hair, frankly the best and still dressing up. But they can still rock out in t-shirt and jeans. Thats why there the best
LinziLetterbomb Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Not too fussed about what they wear, as long as they keep giving us amazing music!
VisionsofGreenDay115 Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 I have to say I try my hardest to dress how I want to dress. I never try to purposefully wear something I saw others wear. My hair means a lot to me too. lol I have to admit, i didnt like Billie Joe's blonde hair much, it just never looked right, but it still worked!! I liked his hair when he had it black and kinda all over the place. Tre's doo was cool too, with it gelled sticking in the air. And Mikes was always original, but still good looking.
Annie, get your gun Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I realized of that change, before American Idiot they wore casual clothes and then it was like uniforms or something. I like them in both, or whatever, I don't really care. They can wear anything that make them feel comfortable to play music
Ashley! Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Psh. For me it's all about the hair. This this this!!! So much!!! I don't care what they are wearing, I want to know what color Billie's hair is damn it!
littlegirl-of-suburbia Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I think that nowadays most people see Green Day's signature look as the AI-21stCB one. I also think that it's great that they don't go like lady gaga over the top with costumes but still make an effort (by having nice outfits on stage...) But i have to admit that Billie's hair is more important to me than what style of clothes he has on 8)
Sarcasm Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I care more about the hair. I remember when they made an apperance after a really long time, it was before 21cb, and they were giving out an award for something, Grammys maybe, and Mike had the worst haircut EVER! Yellow hair, fatty and combed foreward... Wow..
She is Amanda Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 to be honest, I don't exactly like this leather jacket Billies's worn for the past couple years...it makes him look like has boobs
greendaytodeathandback Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Personally I don't care whether they wear this: []http://t3.gstatic.co...L4FGMpwXYdICEoZ [] Or this: []http://t1.gstatic.co...HGsjRDG4zmtfgHd [] Just so long as they play their amazing music I'm happy
