Rage & Love. Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 I was thinking last night what kind of video I would want to see from the guys. Like if I had the chance to take control over a music video they were producing, and I had the choice of everything and anything that could happen in the music video. I was wondering what you guys could think of if you ever had the power to do such a great thing For example, mine would be this. An all white background and flooring (like Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' music video) with just them playing. Just Billie, Miek and Tré doing what they do best, and just playing in your face. No cuts in the video, no special effects (apart from the whole video to be in black and white) and for them to just play the song. Kind of like Redundant but without the green screen and people in the background. Billie would be to the left, Mike would be to the right and Tré would be centre. Just them playing, that's it. How would you guys have it? Also say your favorite music video and why maybe? It's up to you- Mine is 21st Century Breakdown, based of the pure amazement of the editing and thought put into the video. (sorry if this thread is already out there, i looked for similar threads, but none was like this so, mmm)
melissawebster Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 My problem is I haven't seen any of the official Green Day music videos, so I have no idea if what's in my head is redundant but there are quite a few songs where I see scenes when I hear them. "Longview" is probably the one that sticks out the most. Bored, lonely rock musician sitting in a hotel room masturbating as the remote lays cast aside, and then the camera focuses on the sperm that lands on the TV screen when he climaxes. And then it cuts to the guys in the band walking down the street singing the "I got no motivation" part of the song, and it finishes up with them on stage. I'd do the whole thing in black and white, with a kind of gritty, edgy feel to it.

(I'll put the video in the spoilers:P ) And my favorite Green Day music video is "Nice Guys Finish Last". I just love the not-serious feel of those videos! Hm, I would want Green Day to do an acting video, kind of like the I'm Not Okay music video. I'd be down with anything as long as it's funny. Funny videos are the best. That would be freaking amazing if they did King For A Day!!! (A little late for that now) My favorite music video by Green Day has to be Walking Contradiction...it's awesome, and funny, and well thought out. If they could do anything for a music video, i'd say just release something like MCR did for Planetary (Go!)...just them playing their hearts out live.

Also i absolutely love the one for Basket Case, i remember seeing that for the first time and thinking, "What the fuck *is* this?" I mean, they played the parts well, the scenario fits the song perfectly, it was a funny fucking video so i think that drew a lot of people in. Also the color and saturation is really weird (i think they filmed in b+w, added color later.) I hate music videos that are just gratuitous 3 minute videos of a band. Like "the label wanted us to release this song and we had no ideas for the video, so here we are walking around." BOOOORING. The only thing i wish i could do is create the American Idiot movie. I could see it being animated, like really dark Anime style. I could see it as a graphic novel too. I wish i could have created the live show as well- i don't really like the story they presented. They messed with the mental image i had of the story. It was like when they make a movie out of your favorite book and totally wreck it. *sigh*. I mean, AI the musical was a beautiful thing, i think it kicked broadway in the ass and got a lot more people interested in live theater, and it was a cool show, but that's not the way the story went in MY head...

And fun fits perfectly with them, so if I'd have to make a video, it would be of Don't Wanna Fall In Love or Sick Of Me

Somewhere I have ones for King for a Day and Blood, Sex & Booze written up and Pulling Teeth has been rolling around in my head for awhile. I'd like to see that song get taken very literally in a funny, slightly dark way. When I Come Around and Redundant are two of my favorites. They both combine what I like in videos - simplicity and story telling (plus a little humor).

A Killjoy from Detroit Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I really would like to see a video of the band interacting with the set and the other "characters" if there are any. it seems like most of the time, they are just walking around or playing, which is nice but there are plenty of songs where so much more is possible. I know there are videos like Holiday where they interact more and i'd like to see more stuff like that. King For a Day, Misery, and Viva La Gloria! are songs i wish they would make videos for. I'd like to see more videos with Christian and Gloria and i really wish they had made a more official video for East Jesus Nowhere.
